It was tied 18-18 at the end of the 1st qtr., as Harpeth's Ellis had 8 with 2 threes, Finch had 4, Ensminger had 4 with a three and 1 of 2 FT's, and Mendenhall had 2 while Loretto's Birdyshaw had 7 with a three, Hannah had 5 with a three, Cross had 4, and Stone had 2. It was tied 37-37 at the half, as Harpeth's Mendenhall had 7 with a three, Richardson had 5 with a three, Finch had 4, and Ensminger had 3 with 1 of 2 FT's while Loretto's Hannah had 5 with a three and 2 of 2 FT's, Stone had 4, Cross had 3 with 1 of 2 FT's, both Dickson and Brewer had 2 each, Green hit 2 of 2 FT's, and Birdyshaw hit 1 of 2 FT's. In the 3rd qtr., Harpeth outscored Loretto, 20-10, as Ensminger had 5 with a three and 2 of 2 FT's, Finch had 5 with 1 of 2 FT's, Mendenhall had 4 with 2 of 2 FT's, and both Richardson and Baker each hit a three while Loretto's Stone hit 4 of 4 FT's, Franklin hit a three, and Cross had 3 with 1 of 1 FT's as Harpeth led after 3 qtrs., 57-47. In the 4th qtr., Loretto outscored Harpeth, 31-29, as Stone had 13 with a three and 6 of 6 FT's, Cross had 12 with 4 of 5 FT's, Hannah hit a three, and Franklin hit 3 of 4 FT's while Harpeth's Mendenhall had 13 with 9 of 12 FT's, Richardson had 11 with a three and 8 of 9 FT's, Ellis had 2, Reynolds hit 2 of 2 FT's, and Ensminger hit 1 of 2 FT's as Harpeth won, 86-78.

Looking back at the stats, it was amazing how even things looked, but Harpeth hit more threes, made 6 more pts. at the line, and had slightly less turnovers. I guess you could say it was decided in the 3rd qtr, as Harpeth kept rolling with their threes and Loretto cooled down. Down the stretch, Harpeth hit 20 of 24 FT's in the 4th qtr., while Loretto hit 13 of 15. Loretto missed several three point shots during the game while Harpeth was hot. Harpeth's Mendenhall had a great night, but I think other keys were the play of Finch on the inside with her 13 pts. and 14 rebs., Ensminger's 13 pts., 9 rebs., and 5 assists, and Richardson's 19 pts., with 3 threes and 8 of 9 FT's. While Ellis fouled out with 5:06 left in the 4th qtr., she did well early and had 5 assists. Loretto's Stone, Cross, and Hannah made valiant efforts with both Stone and Cross having "double, doubles" and Hannah with her team-leading 7 assists, but they just weren't as hot as Harpeth. The scoreboard operator made a comment to me after the game that was interesting - "When was the last time you saw a girls' team score 78 pts. and lose" - I don't think I remember one.

Harpeth moves to the Region 5-AA Championship game against arch-rival Cheatham Co. at 6:00 Thursday as both teams will advance to sectional play on Saturday with the winner hosting a game and the loser traveling.

DOES ANYONE WONDER WHY JANA CROSS SAT ON THE BENCH IN THE 3RD

QUARTER AS HARPETH PULLED AWAY.  JANA FINISHED THE SEASON WITH 552

POINTS, BRINGING HER CAREER TOTAL TO 1499. CANT WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR,

MAYBE THEN WE CAN SEE JANA PLAY MORE THAN 2 QUARTERS IN A GAME.

Jana was playing sick last night. She was on the bench taking breathing treatments. A great effort on her part to play as much as she did...

terrible coaching move on loretto's part. they needed cross in the game at that time, but if she was sick then it was understandable

Dirtdobber, you are so right about a team needing to step up when their leading lady is sick. If you've followed their district and then regional tourney, you could see that Jana wasn't well and she must be very sick. She wasn't at Page to receive her regional tourney trophy.

Hope she's well soon!
