Rob Spence has been hired as the next varsity head coach of the Chattanooga Christian School Chargers football program.

Coach Spence, a former offensive coordinator at both Clemson and Syracuse, brings a wealth of high school and college football coaching experience to CCS.

Nationally recognized for his offensive prowess, his teams have been ranked in the top 25 in the NCAA in multiple offensive categories during his career, highlighted by his Clemson Tigers’ #1 ranked offense in the ACC, several single season quarterback records at Syracuse University, and his Bethune Cookman #5 ranked rushing offense in the NCAA FCS division.

Spence replaces Barry Royal who stepped down as CCS head coach earlier this month.

Current NFL quarterbacks Charlie Whitehurst, Bruce Gradkowski and Luke McCown, Raiders wide receivers Rod Streater and Jacoby Ford, and Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller have all benefited from Coach Spence’s tutelage.

His extensive experience at the collegiate level is tempered by his high school head coaching experience building Iona Prep into a New York State powerhouse high school program.  He has spent his summers serving middle school and high school players at quarterback clinics and summer camps throughout his collegiate career and has been a regular speaker on the

Fellowship of Christian Athletes national circuit.

Coach Spence said, "I am thrilled at both the opportunity and challenge to serve the community at CCS. It is exciting to continue to build a program that is committed to challenging young men to grow, not only in the field of competition, but in every facet  of mind, body, and spirit."

CCS officials said, "With Coach Spence’s arrival, the addition of David Stanton Stadium, and the planned construction of a new field house and strength and conditioning facility, we look forward to building a great tradition in Chargers football."

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
    • I understand I guess it depends on the school you are with and the time you want to put in.  It’s evident of the schools that don’t put in as much times.  I would say basketball players put in as much time as any sport in our school system and this is coming from a football town.  Bball is a longer season than other sports.
