Prep Tennis: Coyner-Noe (SD), Dattilo (EH) Advance to State

Soddy Daisy girls doubles champs Bailey Coyner and Shelby Noe and singles winner Sydney Dattilo of East Hamilton are headed to the Spring Fling XIV state tennis tournament next week in Murefeesboro, but the victories didn’t come easy.

The Trojan duo dropped the first set to their Cookeville opponents but rallied to win the last two and the match.

Dattilo faced Soddy Daisy senior and 2016 state qualifier Olivia Crawley and like the Trojans duo Dattilo lost the first set, but won the final two and the match for a trip to state.

“Olivia is a great player and you can never underestimate her,†said Dattilo who beat Crawley in the region finals last week. “She can always make a comeback.â€

Crawley started strong winning the first set 6-2, but Dattilo took the second set, 6-4, and won the third set tie breaker, 7-6 (7-1).

“After dropping that first set I thought I was going to lose the match, but re-grouped did my best to keep from thinking about what was on the line (trip to the state tournament) and just played one point at a time.â€

Tennis and Exams: Dattilo didn’t have much time to as she took a French final exam this morning (Wed.), has a Chemistry Honors final Thursday and a Geometry project due Friday.

Lots of Tennis: While many of her friends were out of town during spring break, Dattilo stayed home and practiced five hours a day on her game with coach Ryan Reeves.

    • Big week for the black and gold down in the hole against a team that is historically bad and we haven’t lost to since 1995. We need a WIN AND NOW!!!! A win will put us at 2-3 and maybe 3-3 next week after we hopefully beat probably the only town and program that has more last name politics and drama than we do. If Sanderson Funeral home’s finest hasn’t gotten the game plan better by this week this season is pretty much over. Last week was bad….. real bad…. I hope our qb Martin is good to go after getting beat on all game from that pitiful line performance and bad play calling by our OC. Now to the DC…!!! I know we struggled to stop a middle school offense last week but cmon…… that was embarrassing. Looks like all those power moves bringing in a big defensive name paid off by having 40 points put on us by Westmoreland.  Maybe some more motivational bs on the SCHS football X account will help us with how bad we SUCK!! Dont want to hear any excuses from my fellow Smith County fans about anything for this game. Especially since Jackson County’s team is slower than the McDonald’s drive thru by i40 In Gordonsville. We should win……..period. Anything less than a win is unacceptable. As we all know the big blue bums over in tiger town are always watching!!!! 🦃🦃🦃🦃out until after the game.
