Prep Tennis: D-II AA Boys Final Four Set

Baylor, MBA, McCallie and MUS

 

McCallie defeated host Christian Brothers, 5-0, Wednesday at the Raquet Club of Memphis to advance to the Final Four at Spring Fling XIV state tourney next week in Murfreesboro.

Defending champion Baylor along with MBA and MUS also won quarterfinal matches earlier to comprise the Final Four.

This is the eighth straight year that these four schools have played in the state Final Four.

2017 Final Four – Tuesday May 23 .. Semifinals: Baylor vs. McCallie and MBA vs. MUS

Final will be played May 24

The last time the Final Four had a different lineup was 2009 as champion McCallie, Knox Webb, MBA and MUS were the teams.

Last Seven Years: MBA won three straight (2010-2012), followed by MUS (2013-15) and Baylor in 2016.

McCallie 5, Christian Bros 0

At the Racquet Club of Memphis 

 

 

McCallie gained the doubles point win with wins at Nos.2 and 3 and then secured the victory with singles wins at Nos. 3-6.

2. Zan Meyer-George Brant (McC) def. Chris Beals-Matthew Keeler 8-1

3. Evan Ellinger-Andrew Shinnick (McC) def. Callum Doty-Hays Kassen 8-0

 

Singles

3. Meyer (McC) def. Beals 6-1, 6-3

4. Bruce Renner (McC) def. Keeler 6-1, 6-1

5. Ellinger (McC) def. Doty 6-0, 6-1

6. Faraz Ghamgosar (McC) def. Kasser 6-1, 6-3

    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county  
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
