He did, for sure. His recruiting was good in his really good years, of course, but towards the last 4-5 years his recruiting really dropped off, hence why his records became subpar. I don’t deny he wasn’t a great coach at one time, but I do think it was time to go, it was just gone about in the wrong way, obviously. Unless a coach is just killing it, anymore after about 10-15 years, fans start getting restless with the HC.

Fulmer really started declining in his last years, and if you go look, he was quite mediocre without Cutcliffe. With that said, he had a great run at UT. I do believe he needed to go, though, but the way they went about it and the selection of the coaches in the subsequent years was sorely lacking.

We should be pretty good. Probably finish 2nd or 3rd behind Mairvul in the district is my guess. We will just have to see.

Absolutely - it takes all of that you mentioned. One thing that has kept OR from being really good through the years has been a lack of size upfront. Has haunted us for years now. We’ve never not had good athletes.

In their defense, a lot of those years they just outmuscled us up-front and controlled the line of scrimmage. We’ve always had more athleticism than them, but as you know, football games are won and lost upfront and Farragut has always had top-notch offensive linemen. Always big and strong.

That was such a strange night. It was like OR never got off the bus almost. Didn’t help that we lost our 2 best wideouts that same night either. That really put us in a bind. The past 15 years or so Farragut has just had ORs number.

Well, with all, or most of JJs recruits leaving, not to mention a whole new coaching staff and philosophy, I can see why people are expecting them to be down quite a bit this upcoming season.

Pretty much can guarantee they will be ranked in the top 3 in 6A when the polls come out. Anybody who knows anything about High School football in this state isn’t overlooking them.

I think both have quite a bit returning. Seems like SC was a fairly young squad last season.

Definitely Powell and SC. They are basically on a collision course to meet late in the playoffs. Powell had ‘em beat last year and had a colossal meltdown late in the 4th.

It has become ridiculous. I agree with that.

The problem is, all the good ones, if there are any, go elsewhere, unfortunately. That’s pretty much the problem. They’re kinda like Karns, being they have no success at all to fall back on to keep kids to stay put. It’s weird because they’re successful in just about every other sport but football and basketball, which they’ve always been really mediocre at as well.

Why is HVA so bad year in year out? I pretty much know the answer, just looking for other perspectives.

Yeah, back in the old days we didn’t have social media, and men were not held accountable for things like they are in today’s mass media environment. Second wave feminism did do a good job of addressing that issue. Like we were saying, this type of stuff has been going on since the inception of schools. Of course that doesn’t make it right, obviously, but it’s naive to think otherwise.

And the 50s and 60s, and so on and so forth. As it says in Ecclesiastes 1:9; there’s nothing new under the sun. Humans have been humaning (is that a word?) since time immemorial.
