  1. It's a very sad situation. I believe he took his own life
  2. I believe that Bearden has a very good chance against Riverdale....OOOPS...THEY GONE!!! Actually this should be a very good game I would think. With that said, I haven't seen Oakland play so I don't have a clue. What am I thinking. I do remember when Oakland played in the Super 16 at Bearden High School in the early 90's. I remember a player by the name of Matt Cobble....that dude could flat out BALL. anyone ever know if he went on to play in college?
  3. Oh the Region semis....the most nerve racking game of the year. these games are always gonna be closely contested. I see OR winning big. Bearden vs Maryville is a Pick Em. The BLEV vs Eldridge....gonna be EPIC
  4. There is no reason whatsoever that games should not have been played tonight. PERIOD. Guys should have played Thursday, Friday Saturday. Girls should have played their region semis tonight and finals tommorow night. Big deal if you have to play 3 nights in a row. They are 17/18 year old kids who have been off for two weeks...they have enough energy.
  5. Is there a reason that halls only has one coach for both the boys and girls teams? Is it by choice or are there circumstances why he coaches both?
  6. How was the seeding determined? I am confused
  7. Remember when you said whoever picked Bearden over DB last week owes DB and apology....yeah, I think I may owe Powell an apology....sorry to see your season come to an end young man
  8. Oh yeah thats right they lost to Powell...whoever picked West owes Powell a huge apology...Thanks againPanthers and oh yeah West two in a row! Go BEARDEN!
  9. When I was a Freshman at Bearden, our Bball coach was Cary Daniels, whom is know the Athletic Director at D-B. Ive always enjoyed D-B for that because I really like Coach Daniels. If anyone of you knows him, ask him about the Bearden vs Farragut Bball game in December of 93'. I will be intrested what his thoughts are on the ending of that game
  10. As a Bearden fan, I was very, very impressed by D-B. They are a really, really good football team. Their offense reminds me of Carson Newman's....you know they are gonna run the football...now ya just gotta go out and attempt to stop it. #8 for D-B....we will see him playing alot on Saturdays over the next few years. I was impressed by the sportsmanship by all those involved with the D-B side. They could have boasted and been arrogant after a dominant victory, but none of that was seen. I loved the atmosphere at that stadium on Friday night. That is what High School Football should be. The band was amazing. Good luck to the Indians next week against Sevier County.
  11. West High 4 Life...stay class my friend. Im glad that you aren't a true representative of West High School. No wonder I moved into the Bearden zone back in 1993 when I was suppose to go to West.
  12. Im not sure that as a Bearden faithful that we have to 'come out and play'. Ive given you my opinion of the Bearden team. Im not sure what else there is to say. DB's opponents have an overall win/loss record of 54-46. Bearden's opponents have an overall win/loss record of 4-56. DB has 5 teams that they have played that are in the 6A/5A playoffs and Bearden has a total of 4 teams that they have played that are in the 6A/5A playoffs. Im not sure how this game is going to play out. If Bearden plays the way they are capable of playing then they can win this game. If DB plays the way they are capable of playing the way they can win this game. This game is a toss up in my eyes. Tradionally speaking, DB hasnt fared well in the playoffs as they have during the regular season. Maybe this year will be different. Final AP High School Football Poll (Oct. 29) Class 6A Record Pts Prv 1. Maryville (14) 10-0 176 1 2. Siegel 10-0 149 2 3. Whitehaven (2) 10-0 140 3 4. Dobyns Bennett (2) 10-0 124 4 5. Mt. Juliet 9-1 97 6 6. Oak Ridge 9-1 90 7 7. Science Hill 9-1 63 5 8. Brentwood 9-1 56 8 9. Bearden 8-2 44 T9 10. Sevier County 9-1 23 T9 6 out of the top 10 teams in the final AP poll for 6A are in Quadrant 1. This goes to show you that this is by far the toughest Quadrant in all classes for the state playoffs. Any team can beat anyone. That is what is so exciting about the playoffs this year. Im not making any predictions, because I don't play the game and Im not in the locker room. Im just hoping that both teams play well and injury free. I will cheering for Bearden because that is where I graduated from and have lived my entire life. If they lose, as long as they gave their all and gave 100% for 4 quaters, that is all that you can ask for them to do.
  13. thanks Red Rebel. I forgot about the earlier kickoff time.
  14. thanks for the info Batman. I just put so much effort into cheering for teams and they always let me down. Fortunatly, I'm pretty faithful and will cheer on them all win or lose. Question for ya...what is the estimated driving time from Kingsport to Knoxviile? Ive heard appox 2 hours
  15. Im not sure what colleges are looking at him. I think maybe CN is looking at him...which I wouldn't mind because Im a Carson Newman grad myself and would love to have him at Mossy Creek for four years.
  16. Good morning fellas!!! Hope all is well this morning. To any members on here that have families affected by Hurricane Sandy, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. On that note, let me give ya a little insight on the Bearden Bulldogs this year. They do have some playmakers on both sides of the ball. Their QB Nicky Frizen is a very athletic QB...(from what I've heard of DB's QB, not quite the same caliber, but athletic nonetheless). He is good at making plays out of busted plays. He has a decent arm, but defiently more dangerous when scrambling. They have good amount of depth at the RB posistion. Both Josh Walls and Christian Robinson will see plenty of action in the backfield. Both are small quick backs that can be elusive in the open field. Their FB Trent Waters is an absolute BEAST!!! He is extremely tough to bring down with one tackler. He doesn't get many carries, but when he does, he will probably gain 7 to 10 yards per carry. Their OL is of average size but is well coached and disciplined. In the beginning of the season, they struggled a bit with penalities, but as the season has progressed they have become more aligned as a unit. On the defensive side of the ball, their strength is their LB core. They are lead by Trent Waters and Griffin Delong (son of former Vol, Keith Delong). They will pop ya so be ready for a physical football game on Friday night. They are quick and swarm to the ball extremely well. Their DL is undersized but agressive. They have alot of energy and will give their all for four quaters. Their secondary is fast but not the best tackeling group. That could be an issue with DB pounding the rock all night long. They have an excellent kicker who is pretty consistant from 40yds in. Punting game is hit or miss. With that said, Im looking forward to a fantastic football game on friday evening. Ive never been to DB before, but Ive heard the facilities are fantastic. Hopefully the weather holds off and it will be a gourgeous night for high school football in East Tennessee. My prediction..... Ok, Im a University of Tennessee, Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves and Bearden Bulldog fan.....anytime this year Ive tried making a prediction, Ive been highly dissapointed. So with that said, I guarantee the team with Maroon in their uniforms will win the football game on Friday night Fearintheveer....HE GONE!!!!
  17. I assume both of you were at the game, correct?
  18. WOW what a game last night. I would venture to say that most Maryville fans on this board didn't expect such a close game. I thought both teams played extremely hard last night. Maryville usually gets a huge play out of Trick plays and Bearden came up huge with the INT on the halfback pass. I have to say that the Maryville coaching staff and players are the most disciplined group of guys that Ive seen play in a long, long time. A true class act. I think that is why kids want to play for Coach Quarles. Ive had the pleasure of meeting him one time and came away extremely impressed. In my opinion, the key to the game was the opening drive of the 2nd half. Bearden drove down the field for over 7 minutes and were stopped on 4th down. Had they been able to score on that series, the momentum would have been on their side. Great stop by the Maryville Defense. Very impressed by both Maryville RB's. As to the officiating. It wasn't bad at all. Maryville only had one penalty called against them all night, a 5 yd offside. Other than that, they didn't miss a single call. Possibly a few bad spots, but overall a well officated game nonetheless. Only call that came into question was the pass to the Bearden WR in the 4th quater. Bearden got called for holding, but it appeared that there was a blantant late hit in front of the Maryville sidelines in which 3 officials threw their flags, yet no unsportsman like penalty was called...(ive reviewed the tapes...should have been a 15yd penalty) Overall, I was extremely please how both teams came to play last night. Both fan bases were energized and passionate. I can see both teams winning out and meeting up again the playoffs. Best of luck to both teams for the remainder of their season.
  19. Jason Witten...TE Dallas Cowboys played his high school football at Elizabethton
  20. I saw that this morning. Ranked #49 in the ESPN RISE High School Basketball Rankings. Prety impressive. That ranking will only rise if they are able to capture the AAA State Title. I will be very intrested to see the matchups come out tommorow. Should be some intresting matchups in the BORO next week. Also, please keep your thoughts and prayers with the West High School Bball family. Their head coach, Chris Kessler is currently in a local Knoxville Hospital. He is currently in the ICU. Possible minor stroke.
  21. Bearden vs West in the Region 2-AAA Championship tonight at 7 pm at the Doghouse. This is the 5th time this year, these two teams have played. The first 3 games were all within 3 points of each other. Round 4 went to the Bulldogs last week in a 20+ point victory in the District 4-AAA Championship. They say its hard to beat a team 3 times in a season, much less 4. From what I've seen of the Bulldogs play, they are playing their best BBall of the year. With that said, West will be hungry for a victory and the winner has the clear advantage to the road to the Boro. Being that the loser will more than likely have to travel to Science Hill for Substate. Thoughts and predictions?
  22. Is that not what I said....Better coaching gets teams to the State
  23. Class AAA bball in West Tennessee is just like Class 6A and 3A in Football...you know that the state champion will come from one of these regions each year. It is what it is. Ocasionally, you will have an upset, but the majority of years a team from Memphis will win Class AAA in bball and Maryville/Alcoa will win the State Championship in Football. The reasons are simple....better athletes and better coaching. When you add that mixture to High School athletics, you are going to win the majority of the time. As big as a Bearden homer as I am, I just don't see them matching up well with the size athletisim of any teams out West this year. I hope that they prove me wrong. They are playing very good bball and anything is possible. Good luck to all teams this week as their Region Tournaments wrap up
  24. I was provided incorrect information. I think there is a meeting tonight for the coin flip to decide the first seed in 4-AAA
