  1. I was wondering if I had heard the radio wrong. Congratulations Lady Blue Devils!! Who was MVP screenandroll?
  2. What difference does it make? Unicoi won a tough game against a great Sullivan North team. A ton of respect exists between the two teams and, for lack of a better way to say it, we both have more important things to focus on...a.ka. Johnson County and Elizabethton. This happens in every gym, on every game night. All we can do is move on and hope that our district sweeps in the region. After tomorrow, we need to become each other's biggest fans. That's pretty easy to do when it comes to North, considering how hard their players play/work and the character of their coaching staff. As a matter of fact, the same can be said for all of the remaining teams! Go Devils!
  3. PLEASE hit me with some details! Unicoi- a Lot WG- not much (F)
  4. We all have our colored glasses on and nothing else can really come from rehashing the game. Cox and English are top notch. Ms. Williams from North deserved her ovation and then some. It was a touching moment. Will someone associated with Elizabethton, Happy Valley, South Greene, or Johnson County provide some first-hand info on the games from last night? This thread is way too lopsided.
  5. Because that Technical was so out of line tonight, right? And our #10 didn't shoot the ball and get fouled at the end of the half, right? If you'll recall, the fouls at the half were 7-2 against the Devils. The officiating was suspect on both ends of the floor. Turnovers and foul shots were the difference. Make excuses all you want; we're undefeated in the conference for the third year in a row. The truly sad part is that North players deserve so much more than what they get, and I'm not talking about officiating. They've played extremely hard and, as of late, extremely well for the year and there were hardly any fans there to appreciate it. Even Happy Valley fans will turn out for a Friday game. Honestly, I've got nothing but complimentary things to say about the kids and the coaching staff, so why come on here and pull that reputation down. At least you were at the game; I could count the number of North fans on my fingers and toes. I'm not here to bicker with anyone, especially not a fan of a team that I really respect. I'd rather you just say "Tough breaks, but the rematch will be a different story." I've never made an excuse for a Devil's loss because there's always those missed lay-ups, check-outs, free throws, etc. Personally, I hope we do meet again because neither team has really played their best in the first two match ups. Unbelievable and unpredictable year for the conference!
  6. That shooter from Unicoi...you know... the one wearing the jersey with the number on it /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I think a case could be made for about 7 different Blue Devils and each night it seems like someone else steps up. The beauty of it all is not one of them would take the award without honoring his fellow teammates.
  7. What a night for the conference. I cannot believe no one has commented yet.
  8. Hands off Dugger! I think Unicoi blue suits him just fine /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. The paper indicated that Johnson County's leading scorer (two years running) and 6th man, Shaw and Prudhome, missed the game. Shaw, apparently, has suffered a stress fracture in his foot. If sustained, this could be a tremendous blow to the Longhorns.
  10. Fortunately, the road to the state tournament does not go through Hampton, but I think both rematches will be great games to watch. When does Hampton play University High, King?
  11. True, but since they didn't stay intact, I chose the 04 team as the best UC team in recent years. Unfortunately there's no asterisk next to the final season record. But hey, why rehash old teams when we could discuss the success of the current one. Coach English has done a tremendous job.
  12. They underachieved because they had the talent to go to the state tournament and didn't. Upsets do happen, but (correct me if I'm wrong) post season play is what matters most. If the New England Patriots lose their first playoff game, all that regular season success is for nothing. No need to take my opinion personal.
  13. 05 was an extremely talented team, but I always thought they underachieved. I think the 04 team (Sparks, Corn, White, Evely) who lost in the substate to AE was the best in recent memory. If Central had already moved up in classification, they would have made the state tourney without losing a post season game. I'll say this about the current team-- points were never this easy to come by. It's been a great season so far.
  14. I knew what you meant Vader. Thanks again for the info. Have a Merry Christmas everyone.
  15. Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. All Hampton did was beat two strong Watauga Conference teams, regardless of officiating or any other excuse. Classification is a number and, otherwise, plays no other part in what happens on the hardwood. There's no use in exchanging jabs-- just congratulate them on what they earned and say "we'll see you in our house." Vader- thanks for providing the numbers- I wasn't being skeptical as much as I just like to see the facts backed up. Merry Christmas to you all!
  16. Vader, do you care to throw some numbers out there? I have heard that Hampton had outgrown their classification for awhile now, I'd like to see the actual break down of their enrollment. However you slice it, Hampton's the real deal in 1A East Tennessee basketball!
  17. A bloody dogfight. I'll elaborate when Johnson County is the next Blue Devil opponent. Neither side can afford to overlook a team while waiting on this match-up.
  18. Beat me to it, Vader /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  19. The respect goes both ways, Pujo, and I always search for your response first if I'm trying to make sense of something going on in the area. I hope my posts didn't give the wrong impression; I was by no means trying to say that Hampton didn't earn the victory over Unicoi. Quite the opposite..my reference to lay-ups and defense weren't excuses as much as they were disgruntled rants. Coach White has done an incredible job in such a short amount of time-- I look for the Bulldogs to make big noise across the state in 1A. And Pujo, Unicoi found its physical defensive identity and penetrating offense tonight against West Greene. 73 points and still shot horrific from the three point line. Great teams respond when their character is called into question. Thanks for the boost, 'Dogs!
  20. No sense in attacking each other-- we're probably more alike than either side would like to admit ha. Figures a Unaka guy would jump all over this thread-- I'm glad we squeaked by the Rangers last week /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  21. Officiating had nothing to do with the loss. Both sides could play the "if/then" card until they're blue in the face, but the bottom line is Hampton wanted it more and flat out got the job done. Neither team played their best game, though, and I think the rematch will be another great match up down the line. As far as the 'Live by the 3, Die by the 3' motto, when Unicoi does the little things (make lay-ups, play defense, check out) it doesn't matter if the 3 is falling. I think Hampton has some quality basketball players and all of 1A will take notice when everyone gets in the same basketball rhythm. Best of luck Bulldogs!
  22. Do you consider substate choking? And as far as scheduling goes, Unicoi has played 5 3A schools including Science Hill, Sullivan East, and Daniel Boone. I'm glad you don't claim Hampton, I have a lot of respect for Bulldog posters.
  23. I would love to hear from anyone who has seen Johnson County play first hand. It seems like they are absolutely dominating both ends of the court. What a regular season so far!
  24. Love the enthusiasm Mr. Black, but lets not make enemies this early in the season. Anyone can beat anyone in our conference this year, so let's take this HARD earned "W" graciously and get focused on Hampton for Thursday!
