  1. In response to who is going to win the Three Rivers Conference-- Unicoi County. If for no other reason than for over 4 years now, no one has given them a chance to repeat their success from the previous season. I've heard "well now that ________ is gone, they'll be lucky to finish in the top half of the conference" so many times it's laughable. And until someone steps up and takes it from them, I won't waste my time believing otherwise. East is dangerous. North is young but talented. Etown has the athletes. Johnson County is gritty and well-coached. Valley is BaylessBall-- never counted out. This should shape up to an exciting year, top to bottom. Go Blue!!
  2. Absolutely none taken there, Coach QB. I was just there so I figured I'd throw out the info. Some notes from an outsider (take 'em for what they're worth): The QB was impressively accurate and elusive in the pocket. The LBs were very quick and explosive-- enough to make up for a perceived lack of size. The F/S #10 is a knockout hit waiting to happen on every play run or pass. Only concern I'd have would be pass protection based on the UC scrimmage. Has Tallman been offered anywhere yet? Are any SEC schools showing interest in the Viking backfield? Best of luck and stay healthy through the jamboree!
  3. The total score was Tennessee High 2 scores to Unicoi 0. The weather forced the impromptu switch of venues. Both teams seemed to be working on specific aspects of their offenses and defenses. It was competitive and good spirited. I hope Unicoi can keep this scrimmage as they continue to improve. Best of luck Vikings!
  4. Who are the Rebels and Black Knights scrimmaging this summer? I'd love to get a preview of the new conference foes if the games are close enough and during my downtime. Any help appreciate!
  5. Who are these Greene County teams scrimmaging this summer-- Greeneville, South Greene, West Greene, Chuckey Doak? I want to see some pad popping firsthand!
  6. Unicoi threw the ball pretty well on a lot of teams last year, but there were WR's running way too free for a top notch program like Tennessee High. My two cents after watching the Vikings for years is that they rely too much on the front four getting pressure and hardly blitz against multiple receiver sets. I can't argue with their success, but the best way to take pressure off the back of a suspect secondary is to put the QB on his back before the coverage breaks. Good luck, Vikes!
  7. You can't play the role of the underdog if you're calling a state title run, Clone. You also can't play the role of the underdog if everyone in the conference knows you have serious weapons. Then again, you had that same firepower last year. It should be a great, and I mean GREAT, year for football in upper East Tennessee. Keep us posted on how spring practice goes as it fires up please 'Clonefan'! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  8. Did Spring Practice open up today for the Bulldogs, Pujo? If so, what was the rundown-- I know you wouldn't miss it! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. It seems as though he would be ideal for discuss honestly. Has he ever given that a shot? Low center gravity... Acceleration burst... Cooridination and Power... it adds up pretty nicely. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  10. I hope the Vikings wait to see the status of their premiere TB before they shift the back-up talent out of the backfield and into the receiving core
  11. I do love a team that believes in pounding the snot out of anyone attempting to line up infront of them. My apologies, Pujo, what's done is done and I'm sure it's over with now. I just like to keep up with the 'Dogs across our county fence. On that note- what's the latest on the coaching situation?
  12. So what happened? And who are the potential basketball players that might come out for football?
  13. Unless you are priviledged to know the workout habits of everyone in your district, I'd be careful with such statements. I don't think you want to strap that giant Bullseye on your back just yet.
  14. Quick question Fulton faithful-- how do you think Unicoi County would have faired at the state tourney this year?
  15. And that is exactly why I phrased my comments the way I did, Vader. I've read every last word of this thread and I just wanted listed somewhere on here the 'correct' way to take action against a coach behaving inappropiately-- IF THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE CASE. You follow me /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  16. This has been a very interesting thread. I am Unicoi blue all the way, but I've always admired the hard work ethic and (no better word for it) GRIT the Hampton Bulldogs have had in their football and basketball programs. I've often wondered what it takes to produce that kind of toughness year in and year out, as I have with Johnson County's programs, and it may be the 'do or die' mentality of the coaches. It may be the 'produce or sit' attitude or the 'know your role and shut your mouth' philosophy. At any rate, something there produces hard nosed, scrappy kids and that should be commended as much as being conference champions. The only two cents I have to throw in is that, in absolutely no way, cussing is not motivation. I have watched Head Coach John English for years teach, correct, motivate, and Reprimend (to put it politely haha) from afar and all without ever belittling a young man-- certainly not publically-- and he is not an easy man to play for. Respect commands respect and that might be the single greatest factor to the Blue Devils success during his reign. I won't pretend to know the truth as to what's going on during games or practices, but if the problem truly existed to the level that has been suggested on here, there are productive ways of achieving change. Letters to the editor are powerful tools for those not afraid to sign their name on the bottom. School board meetings are the best way to communicate problems for those not afraid to stand up and be accounted for. And the list goes on. I know I'm spoiled to have the staff I do coaching the young man of my community, but if they ever crossed the line it would make the Erwin Record and/or School board agenda long before it got hashed and rehashed out on an anonymous message board. I love following Hampton athletics so please don't think of my comment as a biased intrusion-- Good luck!
  17. Quality youth, Lord Vader! I've seen them perform and they are as billed- a nightmare to 1A programs for the next two years. The best underclassmen I've seen though, biased or not, has to be Logan Lyle of Unicoi County. He has been sensational and consistent for a program that should be considered the best in NET 2A (top 5 regardless of classification).
  18. As I understand it the decision was completely up to Coach Cooper as to who would be the head coach in his absence. White had the most experience and it made the most sense as to who would step in for three hours of coaching. I'd put money though that the Tennessee High gameplan didn't come from just Coach White.
  19. I'm not sure what community you live in, but folks aren't hanging their head over the choice from my parts of the county. I have far too much respect for Coach White to strike up a conversation as to why he didn't get it the job- and honestly who am I (or you) to speculate. We aren't in the locker room or the practice field, nor were we in the individual interviews. All I know is a quality man was handed the reigns and the town should back him. Whether you realize it or not, your disrespecting Coach Huskins and, with a son soon rising up in the program, that's not the best mentality to have. I love Coach White and I hope that he has a spot on staff-
  20. I don't post as frequently as I used to, but I just can't contain it any longer: The best hire they could have made. Period. Head Coach Jared Huskins has collegiate playing experience and many quality years of coaching football in several schemes. He is passionate and dedicated and-- more importantly-- he will demand respect from ALL those associated to the program. I've been around a long time and I've seen just one other coach with this same combination of fire, knowledge, and accountability. At that time, he was a risky hire due to no experience as a head coach and a homegrown product. That man is now captaining one of the best basketball programs in East Tennessee. My hats off to the 'powers' who had the foresight (again) to hire the right man for our children, program, and community. Any word on the rest of the staff? Or- as someone pointed out earlier- the middle school situation (coaches, conference, etc.)?
  21. It's not my place to judge him or his situation. I'm here to discuss football, not mock children behind an anonymous screen name. I've always enjoyed reading your posts because they carried weight and/or poked good humored fun. I expect more out of most South posters.
  22. That's a cheap shot at a young man. Football aside, low blows like that are for cowards.
