  1. I sent the lady my personal contact information. I believe she is inquiring about youth wrestling (below middle school age). There are no dead periods or pre-season (non coach) allowed rules in effect. We will have two separate start dates. An experienced group that will wrestle Usa tournaments in Georgia before the Tennessee season starts and the regular Tennessee Aau youth league stuff which we will start practicing for around the first of December. Anyone interested can contact me at msutherland16@aol.com.
  2. I sent a message to your private inbox. you can email me at msutherland16@aol.com or call 580 2739. nice screen name by the way.
  3. send me a private email and i can forward you an attachment of the underground shirt. I think they may be ordering some more of them.
  4. who is the fc tight end#90? i have watched Smith (ooltewah) a lot over the years and have never seen anyone block him like #90 did. is he a senior? has he had any offers from anyone. There was one play where smith blew by him and i though the fc qb was in for trouble but he ducked just at the right second. Thats normally what smith does on every play but #90 blocked him the rest of the night
  5. Who is #90 for Franklin county. I watched him in the Jamboree and was really impressed
  6. Does anyone know who #90 was for Franklin County? I havent watched ooltewah that much but the few times I have seen them Jaques (sp?) was unblockable. #90 had no problem with him what so ever last night. this isnt a knock on Mr Smith as I was really looking forward to watching him but I came away wondering who in the heck #90 for Franklin county is.
  7. What a great camp! Not only can the kids have a chance to learn from the greatest pinner of all time (not to mention a very entertaining clinician) but the parents can make a vacation out of it. Wrestle half a day and have fun the other half, sounds like a win-win situation. Ill send some kids your way to this for sure.
  8. I would say its a safe bet that the majority of all non division I football teams lose a substantial amount of money. Im not privy to Carson Newmans football scholarship situation but I gurantee they are spending a lot more on scholarships, equiptment, insurance, coaches salaries, trainers, travel expenses, recruiting and so on than what they bring in. Football at all except the major universities is a huge drain on the athletic budget.
  9. The kids really wrestled their hearts out and came together as a team. The support and enthusiasm from the parents was awesome and kept the wrestlers focused and intense throughout the whole event. The hard work is starting to pay off and prove that Tennessee can wrestle with the top states in the country. All of the wrestlers contributed and fought hard for each and every point no matter if they were winning or losing. Leading the way this year were the following wrestlers: Ryan Parker 8-0 Tyler Garrison 8-0 Michael Murphy 7-1 Trey ashby 4-1 Noah Horst 4-1 Jacob Brown 6-2 Ben Stacey 6-2 Hayden Hammonds 6-2 Jack Braman 5-3 Avery Shrum 5-3 Will Patton 5-3 Tucker Russo 5-3 Also contributing valuable team points were Dylan Haman, Christian Simpson,Mason Reiniche,Landon Goforth,Truman Ross,Austin Hagerman,Ryan Mcelhaney,Nathan Walling, Sam Mcnelly These individual records are pretty impressive against such competetion as Iowa, Indianna, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Chicago Fire among others that we wrestled head to head. Congraulations Team Tennessee !
  10. I am extremely proud of all the kids. After the first night of wrestling I was thinking we may be in for a long three days but the boys responded to the challenge. Every wrestler contributed and wrestled their hearts out the remainder of the tournament. There were many memorable individual victories that I wll remember for many years to come. The teams effort in our final match against the Chicago Fire who had beaten us on the first day was amazing. The boys all came together and understood what their individual roles were. I think 7th place finish is 9 places higher than any Tn team ever in the elementary duals.
  11. Turbo will definitley have a shot Houston and Blaike will have very good years after wrestling varsity as 8th graders Hayden and Aaron will be very good freshmen and will only continue to get better in the system Cleveland has in place. Dalton will be in the 7th grade next year if I am not mistaken.
  12. sounds great in theory but how many are going to drive across the state for one match? How many are tired of cutting weight? Another option would be for all to enter the Aau state with the winner being selected onto Team Tennessee. Or best scenario.... put the state tournament back together and keep seperate team standings for public and private.
  13. Very nice post Tommy. Thx for all you have done over the years especially including my little one in with the big boys when you could. It meant a lot to him and to me. You have raised two wonderful sons and its been a pleasure watching them grow into fine young men. I fully expect Jack to come around and be back on the mat before you know it. He probably just needs a little time to get this out of his system. No matter what , its been a pleasure getting to know you and your sons have set a fine example for the young wrestlers to follow.
  14. The apology for Jt's dance was from his step-father not his mother and it was sincere. That being said, while I dont personally approve of kids dancing. I dont think kids showing emotion after they achieve their lifelong dream is such a bad thing contrary to what some people have posted on here. How can you not be excited to have just done the most important thing in your life? These kids have worked for many years and dedicated their lives to become champions. Having known this family and Jt for many years I want to congratulate you all. Dont let 10 seconds of indiscretion by a 17 year old belittle 10 years of hard work, sacrifice and dedication. Enjoy your state championship Jt you have earned it!
  15. "In the next two days, some undefeated and defending state champs will most likely fall and new faces will emerge on the state's biggest stage for prep wrestlers. In six minutes on Friday night, boys will become legends and a new chapter in the state's history will be written." Perfectly written !
  16. Dang Kev, you got me pumped up with that speech. I put down my burrito and did 15 push ups! I think Ill challenge someone to a wrestling match tomorrow if I can find a short, fat over the hill person to roll around with. Sexy, are coming to my practice again tomorrow? Ha- Seriously guys, hang in there and keep working hard.
  17. Yes, kids practice on Sundays at Utc. If you have actually been in the room then surely you noticed that the majority are younger kids, kids from Nashville, kids from Knoxville and kids from north Georgia and even a few Atlanta kids. The Chattanooga high school wrestler would be by far the smallest percentage in the room. Obviously this is an open practice that the Sunkist wrestling club puts on and it is open to everyone who wants to attend. If you think its a huge disadvantage drive on down and practice like everyone else does. Now as far as the kids that are in the room that are actually high school wrestlers. They didnt learn to wrestle at Utc. They were already good and they use this to get some practice against new practice partners. The practices are also not year round. You wont find many if any kids from your serious high schools such as Bradley, Soddy, Baylor and the other top programs at Utc. The reason being is because they have dedicated coaches and support in place to make sure their kids succeed. The Sunkist/Utc practices enable the kids who do not have serious high school programs an opportunity to get some extra time in on the mats and hopefully pick up a few things along the way. Someone else posted that it was an unfair advantage for the Chatt kids even if they just practiced at utc once a month. Are you saying it is some kind of homefield advantage? Arent all wrestling mats the same? The duals being held in Clarksville hasnt been an advantage to anyone based on Chattanoogas success. Also everyone wants the tournament moved. Here are some things to consider. Is there anybody else really capable of hosting this tournament. Who has the experience to pull this off as flawlessly as it has been done here in Chattanooga? Or who really wants the headache? Maybe some of you people wanting it moved should step up and volunteer to run it. Ha= I bet that doesnt happen. second, based on the popularity of the sport in Chattanooga how do you think moving it would affect the attendance? There are thousands of wrestling fans who attend because they love wrestling here in Chattanooga. I can gurantee the attendance would not be nearly the same. Are there issues that need to be addressed such as hosting it on the weekend? Absolutley! The finals should be on Saturday without question and if Utc cant accomodate then it should be moved. If those things can be ironed out then it is where it needs to be based on capable people to run it, ideal facility and central location to the majority of wrestling fans and serious teams.
  18. Kilroy, I will check around and see what kind of interest we have. Check up in your neck of the woods and see if Coach Phillips is interested. Im sure Rabiitt will have some tough kids wanting to go. I wasnt planning on doing anything with it this year due to all the Aau stuff going on and the Elementary and Middle school duals in Iowa but I will help get you guys organized and ready to roll if need be. Just call me and we can discuss it. You have my#
  19. Thx Ben. Sometimes people dont realize all the hard work and hours and hours of phone calls it takes to do something like this. We appreciate you taking the time to head up the high school division. Ill pass the word on to the people in Chattanooga. I think the above posts were directed at the youth level teams though. I think most people had a misconception that these were state sponsored and funded teams and didnt realize these teams have always been put together by a handful of people wanting the kids to have an opportunity to better themselves. Thx again for all you do and if I can be of any help let me know. I'll shoot you an email with my contact info in case you have lost it. Mike Sutherland
  20. Actually Tn Aau has had nothing at all to do with the teams that have been selected to participate in the Dixie Duals or even before when it was the Challenge Cup. This is a Usa wrestling event and before that it was a Fci event. For the last few years the teams were chosen by the coaches that took the time and trouble to head them up. Having participated for many years I can say it is no small task to get a full team together and you do weeks of begging just to get wrestlers. Then you have to deal with the ridicule from the parents of those you did not ask to participate. I have not heard of anyone putting together any teams this year to participate in the Dixie duals because they do not want to deal with the headache. If I hear of something I will post it on here. "nooga" you could head up that little project and Im sure you would have no objections from the people who normally do. The Aau teams that will be chosen to participate in the Aau elementary duals and the middle school duals will go through a selection process that is being ironed out now.
  21. Are you refering to the Aau youth tournament that has already been wrestled? If so, what exactly are you needing?
  22. Free hotdogs and softdrinks are you kidding me? We will break Mike "Poncherelo" Hatcher for sure. I am bringing the Purple Vader aka Miles Garner with us. There will be some hot dog eating for sure. I even invited Chico sr, sexy and was about to call the big man himself Chattwrestling but I was informed they have a heated battle with the Soddy boys tomorrow night. Should be a great evening of rasslin north of the Hamilton county border.
  23. I will stay away from all things of that nature. I am sure Art is proud though as he has had a hand in developing many fine wrestlers over the years.
  24. I passed it on to you in all faith that you will do the right thing and bestow it on the right kid at the right time. Its one of those that is unstoppable as long as its unexpected. Now your flaming barracuda move on the other hand is always unstoppable. The great Mud Rat passed that one on to you I believe.
