  1. According to shooter5's question, it would be over and back. If any offensive player is holding/dribbling a ball in the front court, he/she has established team control. It they are the last to "touch" a ball before it goes into the back court, it is over and back! I've heard it described as last to touch - first to touch.
  2. Maybe someone could post a copy of the TSSAA / NF exam on here for people to take to check their basketball knowledge? According to the NF Rule Book for 2004: Rule 7, Section 1, Article 2c states: "The ball is out of bounds when it touches the supports or back of the backboard". Also, Rule 9, Section 9, Article 1 states: "A player shall not be the first to touch a ball after it has been in team control in the frontcourt, if he/she or a teammate last touched or was touched by the ball in the frontcourt before it went to the backcourt". Hopefully this will help everyone with shooter5's question. In question 1, the sides of the backboard are in bounds, including the top, but once the ball goes over the top of the backboard or hits any support, it is a dead ball and goes to the other team. In question 2, it is over and back. In question 3 about What is a Technical, the rule book has about 5 pages to answer that question! Happy reading
  3. Your exactly right Topperman. Keith Deering was even told when he was hired that it was going to be a major rebuilding year. MJ had lost 7 or 8 of their top people from the previous year and Deering gets run out for trying to build a team with very little tallent. Bell got out while the getting was good! He knew the tallent level was getting low. Now Cutlip has a little more tallent than Deering had and they are doing pretty well. Cutlip seems to be a good coach. Get off his back, go support him and the team, and give him a chance!
  4. OG, i'll have to give you one "attaboy"!! Truth hurts sometimes doesn't it??
  5. Well stated Topperman and Big Chief. And may I also add that unless a kid quits because of a family problem or emergency as such, he / she would not play ball for me ever again! Quitting because you are loosing or upset over playing time means you are a quitter and nobody wants to depend on a quitter, much less be around one!!
  6. Let's just say that he and the new head principal are EXTREMEMLY GOOD FRIENDS!! I understand that he was telling everyone the day after Coure resigned (still during the season) that the job was his and was telling the players who was starting next year. Can you say EXTREMELY QUESTIONABLE PAST????
  7. As expected, David Carter got the job as of January 13, 2004.
  8. It looked like he got a player control foul for swinging his elbow and hitting a player in the jaw. He slammed the ball down and got the first technical and said something to the referees to get his second technical.
  9. NCS03, all of us are dying to know when you are going to put on a coach's clinic for us unknowing people. Will it be before or after you graduate from high school?? You do have a good coach and teacher in Coach Anderson. But does that make you a guru?? Back to the topic at hand, Go Get Em Coach Gamble!!
  10. Correct me if i'm wrong (I was 14 yrs ago once), but don't referees have to attend camp which costs around $200 dollars ever couple of years, pay dues to the state and a local association each year, along with the wear and tear on a uniform & shoes, not to mention the gas it takes to make it to about 8-10 manditory meetings each season, and some other small costs as well?? I understand and have been told that there is more to refereeing than just showing up at a game site and blowing a whistle. Is all of this true??
  11. NCS03, why don't you stick to your little hole at Nashville Christian and stop being Mr. Know-it-all on this board!! Brewer is the real deal from Portland. He is by far one of the most unselfish players in the state. His coach has to tell him from time to time to take shots and not pass so much. I have had a couple of opportunities to see him over the last two years and he is the complete package. His supporting cast, this year, is down tallent wise (from what I saw one game and heard about a couple).
  12. I was wondering how pitts got several techinals. Now I know why!!!!
  13. Keep working them hard Coach G. Those that want to stay and win will, no comment on the others!! Remember, Rome was not built in a day Viva la Chiles!! P.S. To Alzado, i'm glad those sensitivity classes are paying off for you. Maybe you can take one on being more expressive of your true feelings and opinions
  14. One of the biggest misconceptions is that referees should call a game EVEN! Not so!! Just because one team fouls doesn't mean the other team should get the next foul. I have seen several games in which the fouls were very lopsided (once it was 10 - 2) and in each time it was the fact that one team was reaching and grabbing and the other team was playing defense with their feet and not reaching and grabbing. The game is to be called FAIR!! Just like anything else in life, there are some referees that don't do a good job and there are others I have seen that work well and overall do a good job. Do they miss some calls - yes. Remember, they only have .01 seconds to make a call or not while the people in the stands have too much time on their hands. Do 99.9% of them ever go into a ballgame with "cheating" on their minds - NO!! An old coach use to say: "When a team shoots 100% from the floor & free throw line with no turnovers, then someone may complain about the officials".
  15. The other night, I saw a coach hand the referees a big envelope full of money and overheard them talk about how they were going to shaft this one team in particular. They even mentioned about how they were going to try and get the head coach ejected and foul out their two best players. YEA RIGHT!! Of course this was all made up. My point is GET A LIFE!! Golfer, the only travesty on this board is the fact that you are not seeing a shrink. Are bad calls made in a game - yes. But, I would dare say 95 % of the calls made in a game are for real. The other 5% of the calls are probably calls which the referee had a bad angle or didn't see the whole play. Just because a team fouls 8 times doesn't mean the other team must have 8 fouls too! Remember, the officials are there to call the game fair, not EVEN!
  16. Basically, when anybody plays anybody in the season, it is a tough game!!
  17. The National Federation and TSSAA puts rules in like these because somewhere, somebody acted a fool or did some stupid things. In some parts of the state, this is a major problem. As usual, the whole gets "punished" because of the actions of a few. As I understand the rule, no artificial noisemakers means any object other than your natural voice and your hands is artificial. Cheerleader megaphones are just that, for cheerleaders only!! They are not to be in the stands. That goes for cheerleaders banging them on the floor. As far as people not being allowed on the floor, that is a safety issue for everyone involved.
  18. What hapened to the twins of Whites Creek? Grades, behavior, or what? I understood they were going to take the creek back to the state!! (Or at least that is what they said)
  19. Wavelink, Update your forms?? Try updating the information the school was given by the parent(s)!! There has never been a problem with the forms, especially when the CORRECT information is put on there (again what was told by the parent(s)!! They have worked every day for many years now without any problems! Don't blame a piece of paper because Gallatin was lied to by a kid and his parent(s)!! The system has no flaws in it at all! People just try to get around the system and when they get caught, they cry about the system. Coach T is exactly right, a new can of worms would be opened up. It is just like in society, if people would do right in the first place, there would be no need for any laws. Remember, the rule was made by the schools for the schools!
  20. Squoshwave17, Would you want a little cheese with that whine?? I hope you find life after football very rewarding
  21. yodude

    79-36!

Alzado, Are you saying Hillwood got outcoached?? Surely not with all of the old heads on the Hillwood sideline, and two young pups!! Let me see if I can understand this whole picture. Hillwood refuses to swap film for a game (totally uncool) and Northwest runs the score up on Hillwood (uncool still). Hillwood coaches get cursed out by their players and don't do anything about it and Northwest coaches use "I" and "me" instead of focusing on their team. GREAT ROLE MODELS GUYS!!!!
  22. ELA, AMEN!! I have stated in a few posts exactly what you continue to say. AGAIN, I'm quites sure Gallatin did nothing wrong. They only reported the facts that they were given by the boy and his parents. And they gave Gallatin WRONG information. We as coaches have to take each transfer, as well as each person who we find out has moved anywhere, and investigate it fully. As I said earlier, unless we get certain information (phone bill / electrical bill with parent(s) name on them), we don't list them as eligilbe. All school personnel should be more careful and do some additional investigating on transferrs! This is what the message should be!!
  23. Coach Mooney is a class guy and a good basketball coach. From the games I have occasionally seen, he treats his players with respect and demands them to be the best they can be. What coach does not desire that of his team?
  24. The new Free Throw Rule was a National Federation "experiment" last year in a couple of states. This year, the NF put it into the rule book. Keep in mind, while the National Federation is the governing rules body of sports, each state may put in their own "rule wrinkle" on something. The TSSAA uses about 99.8% of the rules from the NF in Tennessee.
  25. Topperman????? Man is that going to take some time to get used to!!! Anyways, good luck to the new "Topperman"! If anyone can do it, you can
