  1. Regardless of what may have happened earlier in the year, S'town is the class of that region. I would say they are the early favorites to win the Class A state title. Ivey is a player.
  2. You never can tell how hard a kid throws by asking folks on here, players or fans. I asked a Kentucky scout who had just seen Clinard and he said 87-90 on Clinard's fastball. That alone gives them a leg up on all other Class A teams when he is tossing the pill. I would say that if Cascade can beat him, then they would have to be favorites to win the state because Clinard will likely be hurling for a SEC team two years from now. Don't see it happening though. MoMo is a gritty kid, but he would have to shut out ER for Cascade to have a chance. If I were a college scout, I would make it a point to come out to that one so I could answer some questions on whether or not MoMo can hit SEC pitching and how Clinard does against a potential SEC bat.
  3. I would have to guess that both District 10-A teams will win. Pitching and defense always win in the postseason in baseball. McDowell has been there and done that when he shoved it up Cascade's rear last year with total command of a great curveball, striking out 14. Clinard is probably getting text messages from VU and UT right now....nuff said. If he can just show any type of curve or slider or change, Cascade will start guessing and crumble late in counts. The 9-A teams are good but they likely haven't seen pitching like this all year.
  4. East heads to Wartrace/Bell Buckle. MTC travels to Nashville.
  5. Interesting scouting report. Probably similar to that of any Class A team with success. There is quality talent at the top, ace pitcher, SS and CF, then there is a drop-off. Kind of like reporting on a DII baseball team compared to that of a SEC roster. I like Beckham from MTC. He is a quality athlete and more of a No. 1 than Siler. Siler shows his curveball too much but does a good job of living on the outside corner with his fastball. Stewart and Bowman always give Cascade a chance to win. That's all you can ask for against good hitting teams. Both teams seem to struggle defensively. Bad glovework is the quickest way for ANY team to purchase a bus ticket home. I've seen schools with 30 wins and a team BA of over .375 exit early due to E's. Unlike football where big plays make the difference, execution of the routine plays carry hardballers in the post-season.
  6. It will be interesting to see how a school that is known for rolling through the regular season and in district tournaments does in region play. Seems like they choke in just about every sport when the word region pops up late in the year. If they can take down ER and Mr. Clinard, that team and program's confidence should skyrocket.
  7. Wow, brich works for the times gazette eh? Does he know that yet? What Eagles are you? apparently not shelbyville eagles because you would know the truth if you lived there.
  8. Not sure why Collinwood and Cascade are jawing back and forth on here. There's only one way to settle all that garbage and it's on the field. So, save your breath men because you are implying that both Mt. Pleasant and top ranked Jo Byrns are upset in the second round. It's hard to bet against Marco Dailey and there's no way Collinwood does anything against that Jo Byrns defense, which is the best in Class 1A. Don't let a big win over WHH get to your head either because they only have one high quality player and that's Lee Pardue. You shut him down, you shut them down. After that, get used to seein' a big red No. 52 in your grill and the back of a red No. 34 jersey.
  9. We may need to get this kid tested for narcotics? Both Meachem and Stallworth have been clocked consistently in the sub 4.3s. Would the Saints have taken a 4.5+ receiver in the first round who's about 5-foot-11? Think hard now.
  10. Don't be surprised at all if he goes to Notre Dame. If he wanted to play for Fulmer, Chavis and the Vols he likely would have verballed already. He would be treated like a god pretty much day in and day out if he did say he was going to Rocky Top. On the other hand, if he verbals to Notre Dame he is going to get hassled by all kinds of folks whether it is good natured or not. Remember Patrick Turner? He waited till the last minute to leave UT hanging for USC. I haven't talked to Chris but you have to think about it that way. Or, he could be hoping scouts coming to see him will see a teammate and get an offer through the grapevine. Who knows? Harrison Smith in Knoxville is in the same boat. The Vols REALLY want them both. Marvin Mitchell is a senior. Ryan Karl will be a senior. Plenty of PT available at a program that's a factory for LBs: Thompson, Wilson, Simon, Gaither, Moore, Westmoreland, DeLong, etc.
  11. Yeah, Region 5-A's final top standings was posted a few posts ago. Anyways, here is how they match up next week I think: Forrest @ Mt. Pleasant White-House Heritage @ Collinwood Wayne County @ Cascade Huntland @ Jo Byrns
  12. I think I'll go ahead and put my money on a Class A championship of Jo Byrns versus the Frienship Christian/Trousdale County winner. Tonight, Colton Morris ran for 196 on 28 attempts. The team totaled 365 on 44. The Red Devil offensive/defensive lines are about as underrated a group as there is.
  13. I believe Forest, Eagleville and McEwen all LOST. So, it should be: 1. Jo Byrns (beat Cascade 35-7) 2. Cascade 3. White House-Heritage (beat Forest 21-14) 4. Forrest Any idea about Region 6-A and what the matchups are? I heard Huntland beat CA. Mt. Pleasant already was the No. 1 seed. Collinwood? Wayne County? FYI...104.5 said Nashville Christian beat Eagleville 7-0. Wacky, wacky week 10.
  14. Does this guy from Shelbyville know what he's talking about? Gives lots of observations. He seen both teams this season? http://www.t-g.com/story/1174792.html If he's from there, he can't know too much about the game can he, haha.
  15. You Bedford Countians take everything so personally. You wouldn't know a compliment if it bit you on the rear end obviously. I know the names of every kid on the team, including the newcomers. It is their contributions that have turned a 4-6 team into a 9-0 team, along with an extra year of growth and maturity. Such newcomers are MoMo Stewart, Jacob Carkuff, Matt Henderson, Julian Marable, Blake Harvey, etc. You callin' these guys "slight?" I count them as being your starting kicker, punter, quarterback and tailback. Hmmm, here's your foot.
  16. Don't get me wrong, Carkuff is a gamer. No doubt about it. He is one of several newcomers to that team that has caused their turnaround. But, he didn't return to the Chapel Hill game after that hit. Your info is incorrect on the following week because he sat out the Taft game. Although, I am sure he would have played if it were a region game. My whole point is that he is only about 135 pounds regardless of how much heart he has.
  17. Everybody's talking about how the size of Cascade's lines is their only hope at winning. How does that size relate to what Jo Byrns has up front? Who starts on each line for the Devils and what is their height and weight? By the way, is it just me or does McEwen have the smallest center in the state? Kid could not have weighed more than 140 pounds.
  18. Obviously you haven't seen teams like Shelbyville and Lawrence County play. Cascade and Jo Byrns would run them up and down the field. It would be ugly to say the least. Shelbyville doesn't have but maybe one kid that benches over 300. Cascade has at least three, and that's pretty good for a 1A team.
  19. That does answer most of it. Very detailed. Thanks. Does Spann play any defense though? Carkuff is allegedly Cascade's best safety, but I don't think Parker will ever allow him back there. He's pretty frail physically, although extremely tough mentally.
  20. Sorry, kiddie, but scores from games two months ago do NOT tell you who has a better team. Good try though. They give you an idea as to what's going to be out there but you can't say Cascade is better because they scored 41 points in the first half against Clarksville Academy since Jo Byrns only had 35. It's splitting hairs really. Garbage may have been too strong a word. I guess I am just tired of the debates on points per game and stuff. You are way off on talk of the players. How can you intelligently talk about a big game and not bring up matchups? Did McEwen's kicker have anything to do with losing to Forrest? Does Dailey have anything to do with Mt. Pleasant's success? What about Colton Morris and JB? Anywho, I would like to know what people (not more Red Devil freshmen) think of how Spann compares to Clay Head. Head was a very accurate QB. Does Spann play DB as well?
  21. What's funny about all these threads is that no one is saying much about the players themselves. I've seen the names of Tuck, Day, Stewart, Carkuff and Spann, but they aren't half the story. Is Colton Morris not a Mister Football candidate? Is Matt Henderson not the best freshman in Region 5-1A? Is Parker Holman not a prime target of Spann's? Anyways, everyone is right, this one will be one for the ages. How often do we see 18 wins on one field before the playoffs? I don't think the kicking game will sway too far towards Cascade. Jimmy Morris is a solid kicker in his own right. Am surprised Chris Tuck gets the pub he does since he's 5-9, 173. But, Cascade's middle linebacker (Pickett) is much smaller and one of the slowest LBs in the region. The DTs at Cascade (Forsythe, Carter, Tucker) hide him pretty well though. Neither team has an advantage at DB. Cascade's DBs usually are around for the play but don't react well to the ball. Morris and Holman should exploit that if Spann is as accurate as he has been. I do wonder how many starters are back on 'D' for Jo Byrns. If you shut down Marco Dailey like you say you did, then that is extremely impressive. Dailey's an SEC-caliber ballplayer. I am sure he is better than he was last year (now at QB) and the Devils graduated a few folks. If either Region 5 team thinks they'll cruise to the third round, they are mistaken. You both better worry about week 10 before anything else. All this who scored the more points in this half or against that team is a bunch of garbage. Teams improve as the season gets older. Players get hurt. Coaches have different philosophies on how to deal with blowouts. So, you can throw that thru the window. Same goes for the 'We benched our starters in the blah blah quarter.' It took 26 carries for Morris to get to 124 yards against Eagleville. At the same time, Cory Phillips couldn't get over 100 yards on 18 carries against Heritage. You simply can't predict based on performances against common opponents. I do like reading what certain star players from neutral teams say, not freshman tackles from JB that don't play or JBBallers or dads of backup kickers. Anyways, get there early. Have your blankets and hand warmers ready. Wouldn't hurt to bring some hot chocolate in a thermos either. WAR J.R.W.
