  1. be careful what you ask for........ graham clark is one of the finest coaches around. he is a class individual that produces good football players and superb young men. this guy must be smoking something. even if this is intended to be a joke, it's not funny. you are toying around with a man's life, career, and family here. this is no place for this crap.
  2. i see your point, but i am going to have to agree and disagree. there are certain things that can be done through technique to improve speed, but it all boils down to what you start with. in my humble opinion you may be able to get 1 tenth maybe 2 tenths through technique, but a coach is not going to be able to get a 5.0 down to 4.4-4.5. i realize 4.2-4.3 is an extreme example, but i think many people don't have a clue what true 4.4-4.5 speed is. it is overused. not many athletes around here have that speed. that is amazingly fast and VERY FEW people anywhere actually possess this type of speed. remember i am referring to true 4.4-4.5 speed not some coach or parent holding a stop watch. i think there are a lot (2 words maroonandgrey ) of itchy trigger fingers out there that start late or finish early on the clock. i think you are asking miracles out of a coach to try to get that type of speed out of numerous players. i'm sure some will disagree with me here, but the mark of a great coach is one that gets every ounce out of the talent that is available, not necessarily wins and losses although wins help. that's where coaches have to sit down, evaluate their talent, and implement a system that best fits that talent. for example, a team that averages 275 across the line and has backs that are around 210 (i know this may be pie in the sky) probably shouldn't run a spread offense. they should focus more on a ground based game. smaller more speedy teams should spread to get angles on blocks and create natural running lanes. i guess what i am trying to say is that you can't expect coaches ( excuse the analagy, i got it from my father, i'm NOT referring to the talent of the area just in general) to make chicken salad out of chicken s**t. coaches must be knowledgeable in a vast area of offenses and defenses to be able to choose the best system to fit their team. i like an 'I' backfield because one can go 2 tights and pound or spread and throw. it is the most versatile offense there is, i think. now i have repeatedly said that most coaches in the area do a good job doing these things. if you feel that your coaches (anyone reading this) are not doing these things, that is another issue that you all can discuss. hope you all get it worked out. these are just my thoughts.
  3. i agree to a certain extent, but i have never seen a coach that can teach 4.2- 4.3 speed. however, it is up to the coaches to to utilize that speed as best as possible. and my earlier point is that i feel coaches in the area do that fairly well.
  4. first off let me call truce with maroonandgrey. we both got out of line on the other thread. i am here to be constructive. bud i think you have some interesting points here. having moved to the tricities from middle tn a few years ago, i tend to agree that there is a different calibur of athlete (maybe more in terms of the number of upper tier athletes) in middle and west tn than in this area. i remember watching teams like pearl-cohn and memphis melrose, etc. in the old clinic bowls at vandy and they had phenominal athletes at EVERY position. how many players from these just these 2 schools played and contributed to major d-1 college programs? several of them are still playing on sundays. i am not taking anything away from the athletes in the area because there have been many fine players come from the area (gerald sensabaugh, jason witten just to name a couple). but the number of these type athletes are not here like in other areas. i am not just talking about db but all area teams (1a-5a). i truly feel it may be a numbers game. having said that, i feel the coaches in this area, for the most part, do a wonderful job getting the most out of the atheltes available to them. bud i wouldn't worry about negative comments on your post. you handled this potentially messy situation with grace. any level headed person should see that you were not trying to stir a hornets nest. i am anxious to see what others think about this.
  5. i think this is one of the best matchups in the state this friday. south has a gunslinger w/ very cpable receivers while m. east has athletes galore. hope south represents our region well. no prediction here. i just think it will be a hotly contested game. to both schools good luck and be safe.
  6. hope the vikes represent region 1 well. it will be a tall order to knock off the trojans though. good luck to both teams. hoping for a safe good game for both schools.
  7. you truly do have a reading problem don't you. let me be real plain here- I HAVE N-E-V-E-R LUMPED A-L-L DB FANS INTO THE SAME GROUP. i have repeatedly said S-O-M-E fans are elitist and M-O-S-T db fans are as good as you will find. I HAVE ALSO N-E-V-E-R DOWNED A-N-Y DB ATHLETES, COACHES, COMMUNITY, OR PROGRAMS. they have a class program, coaches who are second to none in the area, and a fine community. ONCE AGAIN MY BEEF IS WITH THOSE ELITISTS (INCLUDING YOU) THAT RUN DOWN ALL OTHERS AROUND. you guys are the minority in your community, but you make the most noise. so either shut up with the spouting off or take your medicine when the worm turns. you are going to read anything you want into the posts to make you feel better. you also are misinterpreting another poster on another thread (cap1) and demeaning his school. i have N-E-V-E-R demeaned your school or anything else except you elitists. if you must know i moved to the area 8 years ago, my kids were grown when i came, so i have no true affiliation to ANY school (i employ a couple elitists like you and many that are good humble people). i simply am a fan of the game. once again for the record, GOOD LUCK TO ANY AND ALL DB ATHLETES, COACHES, PROGRAMS, CLUBS, ETC. i will repeat my advice to you (and all other irrational elitists) since you (maroonandgrey) obviously have problems interpreting words and their meaning- STOP TALKING SMACK OR SHUT UP AND TAKE YOUR MEDICINE. to all rational db fans hang in there you guys will be ok. to maroonandgrey- i am done with you- i refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person. (by the way grammar boy, in your previous post you said 'there success' it should be 'their success' and to fail to win is L-O-S-E not 'loose' it is also a lot (2 words) not 'alot'- i expect more from an elitist)
  8. never once have i said ANYTHING negative in regards to the db football team or any other db athletes. once again if you will utilize a little reading comprehension, you will see i have tried to support the athletes and truthfully wish them well. i would love to see a local team win it all. i am a fan of all local teams who represent our area. my beef has been with people like you who have a condescending attitude towards every other team. could you say the same? will you now support south, tn high, or any other local team still playing or are you a 'hater' of everything not db? do you play or live through the athletes? if you are a player work hard and good luck next year if not, try playing and see what the game is all about (determination, comradarie, hard work, and HUMILITY)look we are not going to agree here. i guess i'm a 'hater' of db elitists (not db athletics) and you are one of the elitists (can you at least admit that? remember admission is the first step to getting better). so there it is. go study now(improve your comprehension skills) instead of using your class time posting on the internet.
  9. oh i get it. when someone says anything negative about anything db, its bashing but when you say something negative it's truth (elitist in its purest form). you are definately a candidate for a mo-ron of the day award. you need to concentrate on your schoolwork rather than being on the internet, junior.
  10. one shining example, who someone should file a missing persons report on by the way, is art vandalay (he really must have giddy upped). keep talking. you prove my point with every word of your elitist posts. in 4 straight posts you have bashed 4 schools and every person that don't agree with you (tn high, volunteer, jeff co, and central) keep feeling victimized if it makes you feel better. if you would read i said SOME fans not ALL not MOST. I know many who are as classy people that you could find. the reason you have others on here posting is because SOME not ALL not MOST of your fans do the same on others threads. you are doing quite well bashing and runnin your trap behind your 'puter' as well. you are a prime candidate for one of waco's awards. if you can't take it don't dish it.
  11. great post.you have earned my respect waco. you do have a great program. you also have some overzealous fans that cause smack talk when a loss occurs. its never been the players- they are classy, some fans need to learn from them. honestly good luck in the future.
  12. ive been waiting on this one. 1st most dont hate db athletic teams. honestly most respect db and there accomplishments in terms of their athletes- some are jealous. BUT it is the attitude that some of your fans you have that causes this. you have several that love to get on others threads and look down on them. these (not all) db fans try to present themselves as BETTER PEOPLE just because they r from db. i feel bad for your players & will never comment on a specific player but your condescending elitist minded fans are getting all they deserve. if you want respect you need to get control of the elitist that post on here and tell THEM to get a life- support your team don't run others down. i know the free speech thing but as long as they look down on others expect the same treatment. try respecting others and you may see a change in attitude twards you. im sure this will fall on deaf ears and ill be labeled a hater but to prove its not the team- to the db players good luck, work hard not only in sports but in life and you will be a success. you are the cream of the crop in upper east tn football.
  13. i kno how to make them feel better. since they ended the regular season ranked #1 and all their other state championships were voted on by the press and not won on the field (in their defense their was no playoffs) we could get the press to declare them regular season state champs and try to get tssaa to go along with that.
  14. good post. and props to the band. at least there is a bit of rational thought in ktown, dbgrad70
  15. waco knows his stuff. he warned all the others a bout drinking the kool aid but they didn't listen. like him or not there is a method to his madness. just check out his poll it says it all. btw i agreed with his 100% correct poll.
