  1. I agree completely OC. With the style of play as of late that may happen. But who knows.
  2. What's the word on the street? Are they actually going to keep Kail another year? I hate to see coaches come and go.
  3. I like bands a games... if they are good. In my opinion, Trenton Peabody has one of if not the best pep band in TN. If the band stinks, stay home. As a band director I look forward to my band playing at games, I love going to games, but I won't take them if they will get embarrased. Most directors I know hate ball games so they don't really put much time into them and they are more or less forced to be there by their superiors.
  4. Nice to finaly meet ya Bigster! I am still a little unsure of how we will play against UC. I don't have any doubt we can run for 4 quarters. I don't think we will have a shooting percentage to hang with UC. Geanes only hits 50% from anywhere on a good night. I can't remember a game where Valentine had double digits. Good on defence. Springer is good but unpredictable. Avery and Johnson, two words: FOUL TROUBLE....and maybe they could rebound once in a while. But in the last three games they both came out working hard so who knows. I have no prediction for Tuesday. UC wins, great, they deserve it. LC wins, great.
  5. LC Halls final LC 69 Halls 53 Neither team looked interested to be there in the first half. I would have left if it hadn't been a closer game. Here is a rundown. (once again close but not perfect) First Quarter: LC 14 / H 12 Geanes: 11pts 1 tre Springer: 1 FT Valentine, Copeland, & Johnson: 0 Roberson: 1 tre on a short sub for springer Second QuarterL LC 27 / H 24 Geanes: 4 Springer: 1 FT Valentine, & Copeland: 0 Johnson: 2 Avery: 6 Third Quarter: LC 51 / H 34 Geanes: 5pts 1 tre Springer: 7 1FT Copeland: 6 Avery: 2 Fourth Quarter: LC 69 / H 53 Geanes: 5 1 tre Springer: 1 Copeland: 8 Kimbal: 2 Totals: Geanes: 27 Springer: 9 Valentine: 0 Copeland: 14 Johnson: 2 Avery: 8 Robertson: 3
  6. You know, sometimes you don't have to lose to a team to have respect for them. Even if Bradford loses, and it is probable, most of us, including UC will have a lot of respect for them. They have done a lot. And most of us realized what the coach has done. A lot of teams you will regularly beat won't let you do it easily. You have to come out ready to play. If you don't the upset can happen. So just because most of the english speaking world assumes UC will beat Bradford, a whole lot of folks still like and respect Bradford.
  7. When he does I hope springer doesn't do like he did at fulton County. Their big man went up for an open dunk and springer ran from accross court to block it, I don't think he ment to hit him but both guys went into the mat harder than anything I have seen in a long time. He didn't mean to hurt him and though it was ugly the ref just called a foul. Both guys got up smilin' but dang it was ugly. It was pretty awesome.
  8. Just givin ya a fun little nudge man Let me know when you are in LC again and I will holler at the ref with ya OC: thanks for the post man. Yeah, UC will win by a lot more than 9.
  9. OC: Will you please clarify for me and the rest of us that weren't there what "hostile" refers to here. Be specific please. I ate in UC last night and talked to a few of my UC friends at dinner who told me that they weren't going to the game because they (humbolt) would have a hostile crowd just like at LC. Aside from being slightly offended, I was also bewildered. If our game environments are indeed "hostile" I suggest we as fans look for ways to correct this percieved/real behavior. Granted there is a general consensus among LC fans that there are generally a few adults we would just rather keep their mouths shut, but I think we can whittle them down to 5. (Except when biggster gets yelled at by the ref!) In the LC/HBLT game i found Hblt and their fans to be very friendly. They do have an older building, but concessions were friendly and fans were respectful. Please help us remedy this situation.
  10. Congrats to both HBLT & UC. It sounded like an awesome game. A lot of LC fans were sitting in the stands with headphones on wondering why we weren't in Humbolt last night!?! We did get to hear the full 4th after our game. As soon as UC players think they can't be beat is the moment they will get beat. I dont care what the fans think. But I dont think that is going to be an issue for this years team. I think most of you would agree. Unless LC surprises me with something, I got UC-65/ LC- 40. I thinkl it will be a lower scorring game. Nothing to report of interest from LC by the way. We won. Whoop de do! Dresden dint play that well last night. Played a better gam ein Dresden.
  11. Yeah, Wardawg is pretty much on it. Springer showed up with a mohawk. Not that I cared how much we beat gleason by, but I wish guys would take the game more seriously. Or at least let the fans know that they don't give a crap so we can stop getting our hopes up and save some gas money. Personally, I don't think Humbolt will win at LC, in fact I am looking at LC by at least 15. I think we came out looking for an easy win last week. But witht the way we are playing: Shooting less than 50% No rebounding Stupid fouls We get our butts handed to us by UC. LC has to get their heads out of their keesters. Still cheering my falcons though...
  12. SFFan Posted Yesterday, 09:55 PM If UC is so good why they got 3 losses. they are a bunch of thugs. SFFan, what was that? Lack a little class do ya? LC playes gleason tonight. Looking forward to watching the girls game. A little discusted with the boys. Geanes is suspended for missing class. He will be back friday. I am not convinced we will play worse without him. Maybe force the ball inside. Avery and Johnson are going to have to get it together and get some rebounds with out wussing out on defence down low.
  13. Humiliation is a poor word choice and I’ll tell you why. Webster: to reduce to a lower position in one's own eyes or others' eyes For most adults, humiliation public or private requires a certain level of diminishing of character. Not to be confused with embarrassment. A student can be embarrassed but not humiliated. Here-in lies the problem. Most students don't know the difference. Certainly the younger the student the less the distinction if any. A player on your team running the ball wide open and then tripping on his own feet is embarrassing, but people don't question this person or character. A player on your team getting booted for drug use should be humiliating to the player and the team. It demeans the character of first the player, then the team and instantly puts the whole team into question. That said, when a coach's comments put the character of the student into question then the coach is out of line. A strong reprimand of a students actions are ok. "I told you to lift your knees when you run! How many time did we do that drill in practice?" These are fine. "Are you too stupid to play this game?", "I can't believe I even let you play" and the like are not.
  14. Why is it that I can't argue with anyone about the LC - Hblt game. Dang it, I hate agrreeing with everyone Bigster: Way to get yelled at man! I was sitting over your right shoulder. Anyway. Why does it seem to me that whitby never has a plan going into a game? We knew how UC played before we showed up. But two quarters later we are still playing around trying to figure out what the heck is going on! Same thing at Humbolt. Do we not watch game tape? Read the paper? LC had better get their stuff together. I think UC CAN be beat by both LC and Humbolt, but I am not confident they will. Humbolt won't beat UC at UC. LC won't be ready with a plan to beat UC at LC. I will concede we just may be outcoached.
  15. Coaches and teachers "should" be held to a higher level of conduct. After all they should be the "example"adult ,not the problem child. I understand the idea, but I have a huge problem with this. My first reaction is "WHY?". NO, PARENTS should be the "example adult". Yes, we should be the same example, but were do we get off holding coaches (and teachers) to a higher standard thatn the family, banker, butcher, or gas station attendant. "Hey kids, you can act any way you want as long as you don't become a coach, teacher, or clergy!". Define the boundaries of the teacher/pupil relationship and if a kid steps over the boundary, then the kid should know what to expect. If the teacher steps over that boundary, then they should expect a visit from the parents. I agree, but defining that boundary is impossible without allienating many great coaches who have and do put students first. Verbal abuse is sometimes more damaging than physical abuse. When adults use verbal abuse to publically undress a kid , it is time to ask that adult to resign from their position of authority. I believe when you demean the student, you've gone to far. But chewing a kid for his/her play, actions, or attitude... grow thick skin! Sometimes as a parent you have to back the coach over your own kid. Face it, your kid is going to get his feelings hurt. Make him tough it out. There is a place for discipline and it is practice. You will be more productive as a coach by being positive. Discipline when the problem occurs. Not later. A child makes a mistake, you punish them then, not later. Later and the child might not remember or understand fully the reason for the punishment or why what they did was wrong. You can't always be positive but you can always be honest and choose your words wisely to be productive.
  16. Both LC and Humbolt played pretty well. Sain and Epperson were as good as reported. Best of luck to that team. I don't think, however, they will beat UC even once and they won't beat lake county at home. Both teams came out and played. 1st : 10/17 2nd: 27/36 3rd: 50/49 4th: 71/80 Geanes fouled out middle of the fourth. Whitby wouldn't keep copeland in for some reason. LC ran a zone all night. Didn't really work for them. Made some adjustments comming out in the 3rd for the lead but couldn't keep it once Geanes was out. Turned the ball over twice throwing it inbounds with no defenders on that half of the court. Said the didn't throw it in correctly. After the second one everyone started throwing it in with their backs against the wall. Springer and Valentine got several calls for traveling two steps into a shot. I got so discusted at the officiating I stopped keeping up with stats int he fourth. I have complained about bad officiating before. And won't stop. Reffing in WTN stinks. But... it usually goes both ways. But tonight was lopsidded. Not in so much that the calls were bogus, but really weak. I'll spare you the details in as much to say LC has 10 team fouls by the second minute of the 4th quarter. Humbolt had 2! Come on man, give me a break. Same ref too. There was a female ref who would blow the whistle and wait for someone to confirm the call. She was as confident as a jello salad. (not suggesting it was because she was a woman). Don't be mistaken PLEASE! Humbolt played really well. I take nothing from them.
  17. This is a tough subject. As a teacher and coach of sorts, it is easy to see both sides. More has to be taken into account than the final product. Sometimes parents see my interaction with my players and they see something way different than what my players see. Also, each person has a different opinion as to who can do or say what. I once got reprimanded for rewarding a girl who came up with an acronym using the word "Fart" for something we were learning in class. It was creative and two years later every student I had remembered the material taught because of that very thing. I got calls from parents saying it was brilliant and others saying it was disgusting and she should be given detention. In this situation I don't know what happened. But my opinion is this: If you don't want your kid getting yelled at, take him off the team. Its sports, not girl scouts. If he is physically abusing him, fire him.
  18. I look for LC over Humbolt by more than a few. I don't seem real impressed by humbolt this year from the articles I read. Which is a bit of a bummer. I like humbolt. I don't think the arena of battle will be that much of a factor. LC played a tough tournament as well. And from what I read some of the guys are really getting on the ball. While LC offence still centers around Geanes, the bench is getting deeper. Freshmen Patrick Robertson scored well in the tourney. I look forward to that game.
  19. If you click the link on the newspaper site above. then hit the "sports" icon you can find a few articles. Well written in my opinion. GO LC!
  20. Good Luck to UC! To keep the game that close against a team like that is awesome! I love it when west tn shows up big. Good luck to LC also! I haven't heard this afternoons scores but they have done well so far.
  21. I don't really feel the need to get involved in this arguement. And I hear good debate from both sides. My questions are as such: Was this slaughter forseeable? In other words did Union City know it would be this bad? and... Why couldn't have the Freshmen dressed out? Just because they don't usually, does that mean they can't? I find this to be very situational. I'm not saying UC was right or wrong. I feel bad for Gleason, but my personal debate would be this. Would Gleason have beaten UC's freshmen? And would it have been more imbarassing to Gleason to be beaten by a team of Freshmen or, have Union City just hand them the ball and make it a charity game? I find myself torn on this.
  22. Here are some numbers from tonights game. They are not perfect but close. There is a good reason I don't keep the books for LC NO I didn't doctor these numbers now or ever, I just make mistakes. They will be close though. Valentine 4 33% JOhnson 4 75% Geanes 12 24% Copeland 28 100% Springer 12 48% Avery 8 56% Others 7 *I have shorted someone a basket but I don't know who. We didn't go to the line more than 6 times. The top five were starters. I find myself corrected. Whitby has started the same five, save for one game, all season! We didn't really play well tonight. I enjoyed watching Trentons #40? The tall lanky kid. And their #15. Ran with sep all night. Comparably, I didn't hear much booing of the refs tonight.
  23. Geanes will play I am sure. that lineup was just a guess. I don't have to much of a problem comming out with a wack lineup though against a less mature team. Why beat the snot out of Trenton, or Greenfield for that matter? People don't pay to see a lousy game...well I don't pay to see a lousy game....I've paid for a lot of lousy games... Plus it gives some time for the less frequently played guys to get some time. And most importantly I think, Whitby will put out a random 4 and then rotate his starters in and out one at a time so that everyone has a chance to play with everyone so that when he has to look deep on the bench someone can step in and maybe feel comfortable. If whitby has to put in his starters once in a while to buffer the spread, so what? I look forward to seeing Robertson play. He's a freshman that got to play the UC game. He WILL be a good player, he's still young and has got a bad case of the gitters when he firsts gets on the court. He'll grow out of it.
  24. Hope Ynacey gets better! LC by 20 Whitby empty's the bench 1st quarter. Starters: Springer Bledsoe Avery Copeland Valentine
