  1. No, there seemed to be a big slant towards the Memphis teams, in all classes. I talked with other fans of teams down there, and they said the same thing. No sour grapes here, but they got their all-Memphis final.
  2. Well I've noticed the small school fans take their teams very seriously, and you've got fan bases here that really support their teams. I can't speak for Clay County, but I know Hampton will bring a BIG crowd with them thursday. They have always followed their team, even though they will have by far the farthest to travel, they will out-draw many much closer fan bases.
  3. Hey upsets happen! When Hampton made it there in 83, they played the #1 team right off the bat in Houston County. Hampton had 13 losses and wasn't even supposed to be there. They won. They also made it to the finals, so anything can happen.
  4. Gotta love how the "Hampton hasn't played anybody like us..." has started already. SIGH. Union City just about made me puke last year with all that crap, and then had to hold on for dear life to beat us by 4. This is really the same team HHS played last year in the sub-state, so it's not like we haven't a clue what we're in for. Sheesh.
  5. I've heard MANY stories about it, 1960 was the year my Mom graduated form Hampton, so she claims that year for her very own! Can't blame her. The whole thing is like Hoosiers, Hampton-style.
  6. Yeah, it had been a blind draw other than two teams from the same region for years, till last year when the weather put everything way behind schedule. I wondered if they'd go back to it.
  7. Cloudland came out VERY flat in their game., and Cosby came out hyped. I figured Cloudland would come back around, but Cosby looked pretty stout.
  8. It's very true about the new gym. It's fairly nice, but in a cookie-cutter sort of way. Actually most gyms around are too small to host these tourneys on semis night. The old gym does have some charm to it (some, I say), and teams seem to shoot better there. Parking is abysmal at either place, though.
  9. I always wondered why they never had it at Hal Henard in Greeneville? I know it's still in Greene County (Ugh), but it 'd be a change of pace.
  10. This just shows that at tourney time, anything can happen. Just because you're favored, doesn't mean you're gonna win. I've seen many really good teams get sent packing, just because they weren't ready, or the other team came in with a chip on their shoulder. i admit I was shocked to see that Unaka score, myself. Should be entertaining with Cloudland tonight!
  11. Really excited to see what this bunch will do this post-season! I have to say, some teams in the past, I've noticed some dissension, some ego issues. I haven't seen any of that on this team, it seems whoever is going good, that's the one that does it, whoever it is. And the depth! Love it!
  12. The officiating has been on a downward spiral in quality for YEARS. I was at a game the other night, an official called a foul from the opposite corner, with three players blocking his line of sight of the player he called the foul on. He was a good thirty feet away from the action, and the ref under the goal where the "foul" happened wasn't making the call. By the way, this same "official" was presented a plaque by the host school in honor of his upcoming retirement. I thought that a bit strange.
  13. Can anybody figure the Lady Dogs? One night they lose to someone they really should beat, then upset someone you wouldn't expect them to be able to compete with. They lose in bad fashion to HV, and to a mediocre Chuckey Doak team they had beaten handily earlier, and upset South Greene, the only conference team to beat the Lady Rebels, and upset Grainger twice this season. I mean, really?!?
  14. This was a good game with two very good teams. Hard to believe Hampton was playing their third game in three nights, and an OT game at that! So glad we don't have to play Grainger again, they can be someone else's headache now!
  15. Hard to believe it's time for Senior Night already!
  16. Hey Unoit, would you mind shooting the scores out, I can't get down there tonight.
  17. That first half, EH, but they picked it up in the second half. UH came ready to play, while Hampton looked as rusty as I was afraid they would. We never handle being out of school for prolonged periods well, and tonight was no exception. However, they got the win, now they can move to the next game.
  18. I have to say HV has improved quite a bit since the last time they played us, but HHS looked sloppy tonight. Adam McClain played a very good game, hit some bit shots when they really needed them.
  19. Hm! The schedule here on CoachT has us playing University on Feb 11.
  20. Hey Unoit, have you heard anything about when the game with University High will be played? I hate when games get postponed, it's like searching for pirate treasure with no map trying to find out when it get rescheduled!
  21. I blame the chippiness on the refs tonight. Like Unoit said, they call a phantom call which had everybody going "huh?" then let them beat the crap out of each other. Stupid. I've seen these refs before, and they should TOTALLY stick to their day job. Hampton won going away, and they really didn't play that good. If they had been clicking tonight, I wonder what the score could have been. But I'm always glad to get the W, and the team depth just keeps proving its worth.
  22. I personally hated the sectional tourney format. True, it extended the season for some teams, but made it even harder to get to State. Plus, as has been mentioned on here, the kids work their butts off for one more game at home, for some they'll never play on that court again, so it makes for a truly special event. You want in, get there early. I learned that a LONG time ago.
