  1. Just as loyal to them Cubs as you are to your beloved Harpeth Indians.
  2. Tonight's action will pretty much let us know what the first round matchups are going to be once the district tournament begins. 1.) Creek Wood (11-1) 2.) Sycamore (9-3) 3.) Harpeth (8-4) 3.) Fairview (8-4) 5.) Waverly Central (5-7) 6.) Stewart Co. (4-9) 6.) Montgomery Central (4-9) 8.) Cheatham Co. (0-12) Fairview at Harpeth: if the Indians win this contest then they will finish at #3 in the district because they would have completed a season sweep over the Jackets. If Fairview wins then they would have the inside track to #3 in the district and could clinch it on Friday with a win over Waverly. Montgomery Central at Sycamore: if the War Eagles win then they are #2 in the district. If the Indians win + Stewart Co. loses to Creek Wood then they will be #6 in the district. If the Indians lose then they will finish at #7 in the district regardless of what the result of the Stewart Co. game finishes. Creek Wood at Stewart Co.: the Red Hawks are #1 in the district. If the Rebels win then they are #6 in the district. If Montgomery Central loses then the Rebels are #6 in the district. If the Rebels lose and Montgomery Central wins then they are #7 in the district. Cheatham Co. at Waverly Central: the Cubs are #8 in the district. The Tigers are #5 in the district. I expect for Fairview, Sycamore, Creek Wood, and Waverly Central to all come away with victories tonight. I believe Fairview will win on Friday night as well and send Harpeth to the #4 spot to open against a Waverly Central squad that they have had trouble beating. The Yellow Jackets are on a roll coming off of wins at Waverly Central, Sycamore, and Cheatham Co. Look for Creek Wood to really use tonight's game as a tournament "tune up" against Stewart Co. I don't look for Taylor to play his main guns much at all against Harpeth at the end of the week. He'll rest them as much as possible. Sycamore is playing at home with a chance to finish at #2. I look for them to really clamp down and blow the Indians of Montgomery Central right out of the gym tonight. Waverly Central & Cheatham Co. are playing to better themselves as teams before next week's toruney. The Tigers still do have an opportunity to finish the season at .500 in district play so look for Rawling to use that as motivation for his guys starting tonight against the winless Cubs. Finally ksgovols, my vote for District MVP is going to Ben Johnson from Fairview. He is the best "all around" player in the district and I would pick him for my team anyday over Trey Curruthers. Of course that is just my opinion. 2008-2009 All-District 11-AA Basketball Team Creek Wood: Hyndman, Dotson, Darden, Palmore Sycamore: Dempsey, Staggs, Froedden Fairview: Johnsoon, Bledsoe, Hills Harpeth: Curruthers, Jones, Horkins Waverly Central: Vogel, Leonard, Gilbert Stewart Co.: D. Smith, B. Smith Montgomery Central: Hyatt, Daniel Cheatham Co.: Smart 2008-2009 District 11-AA Most Valuable Player Award 1.) Ben Johnson (Fairview) 2.) Trey Curruthers (Harpeth) 3.) Travis Dempsey (Sycamore) 4.) Dylan Smith (Stewart Co.) Again the way I vote the award doesn't mean that I vote for the best player off of the best team. I vote for the player that is most important to any chance of success that his team may have and helps put his team "over the top". Ben Johnson makes Fairview a completely different basketball team. He is a very versitile player that can play inside as well as out on the perimeter. Trey Curruthers is a very athletic versitile player who can finish near the rim. Travis Dempsey is the top traditional post player in the district. He has been a force for the last three years. Dylan Smith carries Stewart Co. and some of his performances have helped the Rebels knock off some teams that were expected to take care of them when looking at the preseason schedule.
  3. We are making room for that "District 11-AA Championship" banner over here at CCCHS coachrop.
  4. History of Montgomery Central vs Sycamore In Tournament Play 2008-2009: ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 2007-2008: Sycamore beat Montgomery Central in 11-AA First Round Matchup 2006-2007: Sycamore beat Montgomery Central in 11-AA First Round Matchup 2005-2006: Sycamore beat Montgomery Central in 11-AA First Round Matchup 2004-2005: DID NOT PLAY 2003-2004: Sycamore beat Montgomery Central in 10-AA First Round Matchup 2002-2003: Sycamore beat Montgomery Central in 5-AA Regional Semifinal Matchup 2001-2002: Montgomery Central beat Sycamore in 10-AA Consolation Game Matchup 2000-2001: Montgomery Central beat Sycamore in 10-AA Consolation Game Matchup One would be extremely hard pressed to find a pair of teams that have squared off against one another 8 of the last 9 years in tournament play.
  5. Marva Rawlings from Waverly is Coach of the Year in my opinion. They lost their top 7 from last year's team and they could still finish as high as 2nd this year. That is amazing. Harpeth & Creek Wood are both tied for disappointments in my opinion. Harpeth had the best team returning but they are inconsistent. Creek Wood has self destructed down the stretch after a hot start. Cheatham Co. is the district's top team despite losing Megan Hunter to graduation and Dee Bates to DCA. Phil Carr does nothing but win games........PERIOD! Sycamore is a great stroy as well because of what all the team has done despite the family tragedies that Mike Miller has endured. They are my personal pick to finish 2nd in the district. Finally, I think that the Bramlett's are doing a great job at Stewart Co. Those girls play hard and there is a reason why they swept the season series against Sycamore this season.
  6. What game were you watching????? The game was exactly as close as the score indicated. Cheatham Co. missed quite a few close shots at the rim that would have changed the result of the game had they fallen. Don't make it out to be like Stewart Co. blew the Cubs away because that did not occur. I really don't know how the Rebels beat Harpeth or Montgomery Central. The Harpeth game was obviously a fluke and the Montgomery Central game was one in which the Indians jumped out to a big lead and lost their composure in the second half. Stewart Co. is terrible! Fairview or Harpeth will beat them as badly as they want to in the first round of the district tourney. I believe the District 11-AA Tournament will line up as follows: 1.) Creek Wood 8.) Cheatham Co. 4.) Harpeth 5.) Waverly Central 3.) Fairview 6.) Stewart Co. 2.) Sycamore 7.) Montgomery Central
  7. 1.) Cheatham Co. (8-2) 2.) Sycamore (7-4) 2.) Creek Wood (7-4) 4.) Harpeth (6-5) 4.) Waverly (6-5) 6.) Montgomery Central (5-8) 7.) Stewart Co. (4-8) 8.) Fairview (2-9) If the posteason began today Sycamore would be #2 and hosting Stewart Co. at #7. The Rebels swept the War Eagles during the regular season. Montgomery Central at #6 beat Creek Wood at #3 in their last regular season matchup. Harpeth vs Waverly in the #4 vs #5 matchup would be a great game. Aside from Cheatham Co. at #1 this district is one that has some strange posteason possibilities if the tourney began right now. YIKES!!!!
  8. District Standings 1.) Creek Wood (10-1) 2.) Sycamore (8-3) 2.) Harpeth (8-3) 4.) Fairview (7-4) 5.) Waverly (5-6) 6.) Montgomery Central (4-9) 7.) Stewart Co. (3-9) 8.) Cheatham Co. (0-10) Tonight Creek Wood at Waverly Central Fairview at Cheatham Co. Sycamore at Harpeth Saturday Cheatham Co. at Stewart Co. Tuesday Montgomery Central at Sycamore Cheatham Co. at Waverly Central Fairview at Harpeth Creek Wood at Stewart Co. Friday Sycamore at Cheatham Co. Creek Wood at Harpeth Waverly Central at Fairview There is just 1 more week remaining until the regular season finishes and the postseason tournament becomes set. I agree with ballbasher30 that tonight's games will indeed tell us a lot more than what we now know. I also agree with scanooni22 in his picks of tonights games. This year the district has belonged to Creek Wood. Aside from a Saturday night home hiccup against Harpeth they have truly been the team to beat. Both Harpeth and Sycamore have looked great at times and at other times they have made people scratch their heads. Fairview has been very solid but all of those home losses to the district's elite teams are hurting their chances of winning the district title. Waverly Central has overcame a pittiful start to finish at a respectable place. They have a chance tonight to play a very good team in their gym. Montgomery Central started out as a nice story but they have struggled in a big way lately. Stewart Co. is pesky as always and they could sneak into the #6 position when all is said and done. Cheatham Co. has struggled this year as the rebuilding has been a hard road. They should be much more competitive next year.
  9. "God fearing and wants to set a positive influence for the boys" quote has been used I see. Did someone watch the movie Hoosiers recently? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  10. 2001-2002: Sycamore was the district's best team. They beat Harpeth in the regional semifinals before being beaten by Marshall Co. The Tigers finished as the state runner up that year to Ridgeway. In the substate Sycamore lost to Bolivar (who was eliminated in the state semifinals by Marshall Co.). 2002-2003: Sycamore was again the district's top team as they won the tourney by crushing Waverly in the title game. After they then hammered Montgomery Central in the regional semifinals they were beaten in the regional final by Giles Co. The Bobcats won the state title that year. 2003-2004: Sycamore again won the district tourney following a very average season. They beat Cheatham Co. in the championship game and went to regions as the top seed. In the regional semifinals they beat Waverly in a shootout. In the title game of the regionals they lost again to Giles Co. In the substate they bowed out at Bolivar for the second time in three years. Bolivar won the state title that year over JSS (who eliminated Giles). 2004-2005: Waverly was the district's top team all year and throughout the tourney. Following a big time win over Sycamore in the district tourney the Tigers rolled to a region final game against Giles Co. The Bobcats won and that sent Waverly to Bolivar for the substate game. Bolivar eliminated Waverly in that game and went on to win their second straight state title. 2005-2006: The district was very even this year as Harpeth, Sycamore, and Cheatham Co. were all very solid basketball teams. Harpeth won the district and Sycamore finished as #2 and Cheatham Co. was #3. In the regionals Cheatham Co. got eliminated by Liberty Tech. Sycamore was eliminated by Bolivar. Both of those teams went to the state tourney and Bolivar fell to Mitchell in the opening round. Liberty Tech beat Mitchell to win their first state championship. 2006-2007: The district was again very even this year as Harpeth, Sycamore, and Cheatham Co. all played some classics. Harpeth again won the district tourney by beating Sycamore in the title game. In the regional tourney Liberty Tech knocked both Cheatham Co. & Sycamore out. Harpeth was ousted by another state tournament Bolivar team. This was the year that Liberty Tech again went on to win a second state title. 2007-2008: Sycamore and Harpeth played for the district title and Sycamore won the tourney but in the regionals it was a suprising Creek Wood bunch that stole the show. The Red Hawks eliminated Sycamore in the regional semifinals while Harpeth was ousted by Bolivar Central. Creek Wood eventually lost to the Tigers from B-Town in the regional final. Bolivar went to the state tourney yet again. In the substate Creek Wood was eliminated by C.P.A. The Lions fell in the opening round of the state tourney in a controversial game against Dyer Co. 2008-2009: ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? This district has seen a few great teams over the years. The 20 guys on these 5 teams were/have been GREAT high school basketball players over the years. All of them have played on teams that they took to the state tournament. Marshall Co. (Kyle Young, A.J. James, Daryl Henry) Giles Co. (Tyler Smith, Channing Coffey, Shay Shannon, Travis Gentry, Eric Howard) Bolivar (Cameron Crisp, Willie Kemp, Olajuwan Kemp, Brian Lake, Wayne Chism) Liberty Tech (Brandon Evans, Anthony Sampson, Antwan Long, Jewaun Long, Josh Sain) CPA (Hunter Miller & Zaccheus Mason) Glad to see scanooni22 was able to shake that dust off of the keyboard and make his long awaited return to the "T" /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  11. Cheatham Co. is a 1-20 basketball team but they do continue to fight and play hard for Coach Dawson. Look for them to be really improved in the years to come. They have some excellent young players and it starts with the duo of Levi Wilson and Reece Hunter. Drew Smart will be back as a senior guard next year and he is a guy who can score. There is a talented group of incoming freshmen on the way to CCCHS this year as well and they will have an immidate impact.
  12. This is the District 11-AA schedule for the next two football seasons to come. In 2010 the game sites will be the opposite as to what they are listed as being for this upcoming season.

  14. I was at Gordonsville in 2007. It was an excellent atmosphere to watch a high school football game (especially for a 1A school). Doing the broadcast from the visitor bleachers really wasn't that fun on a 100 degree August evening but the game turned out to be a battle. That Gordonsville team was the bunch that had Justin Smith and Jordan Davis in their offensive backfield. I think they wound up going to the state quarterfinals before eventually be ousted by state champions South Pittsburg. The Cubs fell that night to Gordonsville by a 27-21 count. In 2008 the game was a bit of a snoozer following what was a classic the previous season. Cheatham Co. overwhelmed a young Gordonsville team that was going through personal player issues as well as a new coaching change. The final score was 35-0. As far as feelings being hurt goes I can tell you that Cheatham Co. football has been to places where they have indeed had their brains beat in over the years. I must also tell you that Cheatham Co. has also gone to places over the years and put a beating on teams and hurt more than just feelings along the way. Coach Finley has an impressve resume to vouch for that during his seven years as the head football coach here in Ashland City.
  15. Whether you play or not is not the point. If you are a member of an 11-2 football team then your class gets credit for those 11 wins. Just like the 2006 class was part of terrible teams in 2003 & 2004. The 2005 season (the second half of that year) was when Giles began to really learn how to win games. When O'Connor took over in '06 it was impossible for those guys to lose.
  16. That is Cheatham Co. The Cubs have played Gordonsville the last two years in week zero and for the next two years the Cubs will play Smith Co. in week zero. I can't wait to make the trip to Carthage in August. I browsed over Smith Co.'s football website over this past weekend and saw that they return that quarterback (#7). He is a fine football player!
  17. I don't doubt that Horkins is the all-time leading receiver in the history of Harpeth football. He has put together two excellent seasons the last two years. The school's all-time leading passer has to be Jimmy Gann. He was the starter from 2001-2003 and took the Indians to the playoffs twice in his three years as the starting QB.
  18. 1.) Creek Wood (7-1) 2.) Sycamore (7-2) 3.) Harpeth (6-3) 4.) Fairview (5-3) 5.) Waverly (5-4) 6.) Montgomery Central (4-6) 7.) Stewart Co. (2-9) 8.) Cheatham Co. (0-8) Creek Wood will beat Montgomery Central tonight. The Red Hawks control their fate as district champs and the Indians have really gone in the tanks following their fast start in the district. Waverly Central will beat Fairview. This is the first of three meetings between these two teams over the next three weeks. Cheatham Co. will get their first win in district play against Stewart Co. The Cubs dominated the first game for three quarters before collapsing in the fourth and I don't expect that to happen this time around.
  19. Yes this Giles class is without question the best class ever to come through Pulaski. In 2006 they were 11-2 and reached the quarterfinals. In 2007 they were 8-3. In 2008 they were 10-3 and again reached the quarterfinals. In 2009 I would be shocked if they did not reach the 4A semifinals or even the title game. Wallace, Houston, and Brown are all back and all of them have been playing over that course of time that I just stated.
  20. Looking at the list the race for the Class 3A State Title looks to be a rematch of this past year's 2A title matchup. Alcoa has won 5 state championships in a row and they could be as good as they have been in recent years judging by the players they have returning. Milan will be the favorite to come out of the west being that they are returning a lot of talented performers as well. Who else is a contender?????
  21. Just like it was 2 weeks ago when the Rebels were tearing Dover to shreds following their big win over the Indians /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> 1.) Creek Wood (7-1) 2.) Sycamore (6-2) 3.) Harpeth (5-3) 4.) Fairview (5-3) 5.) Waverly Central (4-4) 6.) Montgomery Central (4-5) 7.) Stewart Co. (2-8) 8.) Cheatham Co. (0-7) Sycamore at Montgomery Central should be a close game that goes to the wire. The Indians have the size on the inside to beat and bang with the War Eagles. If Moore plays good then I like the Indians to come away victorious. If Sycamore can get the Indians to turn the ball over then they will win. Waverly Central at Cheatham Co. could be a stunner. It's "Homecoming" night in Ashland City and the Cubs will be very emotionally charged. Waverly is going to be expected to take care of business and continue their recent winning ways but they can't play flat. Stewart Co. at Harpeth is a rematch from earlier in the year when the rebels put a bad loss on the Indians resume. It's going to be a game that could be a blowout in favor of the Indians. Then again, it could be upset central all over again if the Rebels don't become overwhelmed by the environment.
  22. Greenbrier's going to be just fine. They are going to play sound and fundamental football and hit you in the mouth from the snap of the football through the sound of the whistle blowing. Kirk Williams is a very good football coach.
  23. There are going to be some rivalries that continue and some rivalries that resume after some years of not playing and also some brand new rivalries in the district. I know for instance that Stewart Co. vs Waverly Central & Harpeth vs Waverly Central have been games over the last couple of years despite the fact that the teams have not been in the same regions. Cheatham Co. vs Creek Wood, Creek Wood vs Montgomery Central, Montgomery Central vs Cheatham Co. have all been region games over the last four years. Camden has a past playoff history with Harpeth. Camden has also played Stewart Co. & Waverly Central. Cheatham Co. has not played Harpeth since 2006. Camden has never played Cheatham Co., Creek Wood, or Montgomery Central that I am aware of in recent memory. POINT: Every week is going to bring district matchups that are going to require everyone to show up ready to play because there are going to be some close battles week in and week out in the district. A few plays here and there will be the difference between making the playoffs or going to the house after week ten concludes.
  24. I think I am going to give this all-district thing a try guys /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Creek Wood: Hyndman, Dotson, Darden Sycamore: Staggs, Dempsey, Kilgore Harpeth: Curruthers, Jones, Horkins Stewart Co.: B. Smith, D. Smith Montgomery Central: Daniel, Hyatt, Moore Waverly Central: Vogel, Gilbert, Leonard Fairview: Johnson, Bledsoe Cheatham Co.: Smart
  25. The new head baseball coach at Cheatham Co. High School is current head football coach Cody Finley. I look forward to seeing this group of guys in action as they return some talented players such as Garrett Potts and Cody Anderson. The new guys that will be looking to step up include Reece Hunter, Zack Bush, and Joe Rinehart.
