  1. East Nashville gets a lot of the kids that used to play at Stratford back in the day. It’s not the same Stratford from the years of Richard Campbell and William Johnson.
  2. I promise you that nobody from Pearl-Cohn ran from East Nashville. I’ve seen that story get played out too many times through the years.
  3. 7-1 has a different meaning. Maybe Lipscomb tries to take 7 of Pearl’s kids back with them and settles for just 1.
  4. That’s right. Coach Herschel Moore’s son. He was at Warren County previously and his brother John was the interim coach at Columbia Central last season.
  5. I knew I had forgotten one I just couldn’t think of which one it was. Who’s the head coach at Hillwood now? I know in 2023 it becomes Lawson High School. Does working in the new building combined with reclassification in 2023 make Lawson an appealing job? I know the region that Hillwood currently plays in is bad news for them with Pearl, Tullahoma, and Marshall all in that region.
  6. It’s been several years since I’ve seen one of these but I’ll give you all a shot to fill out a survey for as many schools as you can. It actually takes a while for a coach to fill one of these surveys out and a lot of times coaches won’t fill it out until the end of May/Spring Drills because of players who may choose to transfer to new schools or May elect not to play football in the fall. Several coaches were great in turning in their surveys and having their schools included in the magazine. Other coaches it was probably like pulling teeth to get those guys to return a survey every year. Sometimes it was impossible for schools to be included because they didn’t have a coach hired at the time of the survey deadline.
  7. Murphy Fair did a lot of great things for high school football across the state of TN for such a long period of time. Donovan Stewart does an amazing job covering high school football as well. Instead of criticizing and trying to throw shade at Murphy Fair for what he knew/didn’t know perhaps you should be appreciative of the good things he did to promote high school football and young people across the state for so many years. Happy Retirement Murphy! Hope to catch you at a game sometime.
  8. Maryville is #2 in 6A now. Oakland, now #1, has proven that they are the better team in recent years. Coach Creasy is living in the minds of Maryville fans/old timers statewide free of rent. I know it hurts Maryville fans to have to acknowledge that Oakland has overtaken them as king of the mountain. 2021: Oakland (24-14) 2020: Oakland (49-7) 2019: Maryville (12-0) 2018: Maryville (24-21)* 2018: Oakland (38-0) 2017: Oakland (17-14)* 2017: Maryville (31-28) 2016: Oakland (23-7) 2015: Maryville (27–13) 2014: Maryville (26-14)
  9. Oakland has a stadium in Blount County where they have great success in of late.
  10. Pearl-Cohn: Tony Brunetti Overton: Arcentae Broome East Nashville: Jamaal Stewart Cane Ridge: Eddie Woods Hillsboro: Anthony Brown Maplewood: Erik Davis Hunters Lane: William Thomas Stratford: Preston Scott Whites Creek: William Darnell Antioch: Devin Arnold Glencliff: Phil Stevenson McGavock: Fred Burnette Republic: Keith Martin
  11. Preston Scott is the new coach at Stratford.
  12. I think Pearl-Cohn has been year in and year out the best team in Metro. They’ve beaten Cane Ridge, East Nashville, and Hillsboro. If I had to pick just one team that perennially is in championship contention and is a notch above everyone else then it would have to be Tony Brunetti’s Pearl-Cohn Firebirds. I would love to see Pearl-Cohn/Oakland schedule a two year series in the upcoming scheduling cycle. It would be a Middle-TN version of Alcoa/Maryville. Youre right as it compares to D2 teams. Pearl-Cohn has beaten MBA the last 2 times they’ve played them 26-21 and 21-15. Cane Ridge lost to Father Ryan and CPA last year by a combined score of 90-10. East Nashville lost to Father Ryan last year by a score of 35-6.
  13. MNPS football can be separated into 3 categories. It’s so predictable what they’ll all be able to accomplish this fall. Pearl-Cohn East Nashville Cane Ridge All of those programs are really strong and have been strong for the last several years. They’ll all be strong in their respective classes. Hillsboro Overton McGavock Those programs have the capability of joining the upper level teams. They’ll all win enough games to make the playoffs but whether they contend for Championships remains to be seen. Whites Creek Stratford Maplewood Hunters Lane Hillwood Antioch Glencliff These programs have fallen on tough times in recent years. I remember when several of them were competing for state championships and making deep runs. Now they all are fortunate to have enough bodies to field a team on a Friday night.
  14. Stratford is open. Porter is now at Davidson Academy. Stewart is also gone and is now at Ezell Harding. Any idea who applies for it?
  15. Is Jamie McLeod no longer coaching the middle school team? Playmakers like Elliott, Dooley, Stanfield, Griffin, Etc. plus a lot of returning linemen (Flores, Fortner, Calloway all are back) make Waverly the Preseason Favorite to win Region 6. The big question will be who steps in as the QB to replace Jacob Dooley in 2022. They have plenty of players in other areas. Was that player on last year’s roster? Is it someone from the outside who transfers to Waverly? I believe Waverly has a very similar year on the field in 2022 that they had in 2021. Fairview will be good also. I think the Top 2 in the region will match up well in the opening round of the playoffs against the bottom from Region 5. The big problem though is that East Nashville is still going to be loaded with players and Smith County practically returns everyone and will be kind of team that White House was last year. Both teams will Top 5 contenders in 3A in 2022. In 2023 Waverly will drop in classification and after this upcoming year’s group goes through they’ll be in rebuilding mode and the path in 2A isn’t what it would be in 3A. Of course in November the TSSAA will reset the classifications and regions for 2023-2026 and nobody can say with absolute certainty that they know what that will look like.
  16. Good Luck to Coach Broadrick and the Patriots
  17. Maybe Waverly doesn’t need weights to be good at football. I’m sure they’ll manage to win games without curling and upright rows.
  18. Tommy Rewis knows a thing or two about the game of football as well.
  19. 20. Waverly returns Elliott, Stanfield, and Dooley. Fairview returns Grant, Claxton, and Curtis. Both teams return a lot of linemen as well. They don’t play until the final week of the season at Waverly. I could very easily see that contest deciding the region championship.
  21. Landon and Jacob Dooley from Dickson Co. Ethan McCann from Lewis County. This thread has already mentioned transfers from McEwen and Dickson County. If you build it they will come and Waverly has profited from the transfer portal as much as anyone in recent years. This is a big part of high school and college football nowadays. Everyone piles on a school like Alcoa and Oakland when it happens but it happens at places like Waverly too.
  22. Stanfield Dooley Elliott Griffin Flores Calloway Fortner I Know That I Am Missing Names Waverly has some good pieces returning next season. They will be the preseason favorite to win Region 6-3A and make another playoff push. Will it be enough to get past East Nashville and Smith County come November is the big question. That’s if Waverly is competing at the 3A level. After the tragic circumstances that hit Waverly last August I have wondered how it impacted their school enrollment numbers. They were already on the borderline as it related to the 2A/3A cut off number. If their school’s enrollment was impacted by a certain percentage does that mean that Waverly could petition the TSSAA to drop in classification for the 2022 season? Either way I would have to imagine that 2022 would be Waverly’s final year in 3A and that they would move back down in classification the following year (along with Cheatham County).
  23. Congrats to Fairview Head Basketball Coach Trey McCoy on winning his 100th (now 100-37 overall) game last night. Reaching the century mark in a hair more than four and a half seasons is a remarkable accomplishment.
