  1. Well ain't that something, punched in the face and Maryville answers quickly.
  2. White, brown, black, purple, orange, football is all the same game. Lets leave the color issue out of this
  3. You not knowing what it means just shows how much of a gdi you really are. Funny little gdi...needing work is for gdis, my job is inherited, TFM.
  4. Wow you're just as ignorant as I thought by thinking being called a GEED is ghetto...I'd rather you come watch some BIG BOY football than not 'waste your time and money.' Please, take a front seat and also let my 'ghettoness' override whatever education you may or may not have, GEED. I'll put it to you like this District 7 = SEC District 4 = MWC/Wac Stars, let me know when those new Chik-fil-A commercials come out
  5. Let me get this right...Mathers had more rushing yards and TDs against better competition statistically AND is a Junior...but didn't win? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....sometimes you just have to call a SPADE a SPADE. Good luck next year Mathers, here's to a healthy season and hopefully an equal or better one.
  6. Just when Maryville thought they had class? Maryville winning football state titles not regarded in the best public school classification, NF. Smyrna winning their football state titles in the highest public school classification back-to-back, TFM. Maryville is the Boise State of Tennessee H.S. football, happy to be there, but ready to be sent back to their place. The only thing Maryville is missing is "smurf turf," TFM. Smyrna once played Maryville, then continued to play real public schools, TFM. Smyrna doesn't have to play in a lower classification to win state championships, TFM. Smyrna hazing Maryville in the state championship game, TFM. If you don't know TFM...you're a GEED. All joking aside, I just can't help but remember last year White Station reversing fields and the Maryville players being dumb-founded. I guarantee you this is the MOST athletic team you will have seen all year. I guarantee you this is the most STINGY and FAST defense you will have seen all year. The Smyrna offense WILL score pounding the ball in the end zone. Maryville is a great team, no doubt, but having to face adversity at the hands of a team MUCH more athletic, deeper, more athletic team will be an interesting test. The Bulldogs MUST be favors looking at who they've beaten and played, but not by much to the common eye. Coaching can only get you so far. White Station's players last year weren't making a donkey out of GQ, but rather the players chasing White Stations skill position players all over the field. KEY WORD CHASING. I'm sorry, but for me this will not be close. Maryville just does not want it as bad as the Smyrna Bulldogs do and that's the honest truth. There' something special about Smyrna in the state championship game, they're 2-0. Undefeated. Unbeaten. Clutch. I just don't think a team like Maryville has the chance to beat them. All of you Maryville posters keep saying 'The offense gets what the defense gives.' While that sounds great in THEORY, you need to have an offensive identity in the end. I'll tell you guys right now what Maryville will do, play field position and pray Smyrna does not get a short field. Then on offense they will throw the ball probably 70-30 because the secondary of Smyrna is considered the 'soft spot'. 2 turnovers later due to rushed throws and not being able to withstand the pass rush, GQ will throw some trickery that will swing momentum one way or another. Either way, Smyrna will have the chance to throw the knock-out punch and probably will with #5 breaking a long run down the sideline or Mr. Flemming doing it in place of him. State predictions: Smyrna: 225+yards rushing 120+yards passing Around 20 first downs 1 Turnover 2 Takeways Maryville: 80> yards rushing 150> yards passing 12 first downs 2 INTS 1 Takeaway Score Prediction: Smyrna - 31 Maryville - 20 (2 FG's for that Mr Football Kicker) Good luck at the game both teams, may the best team win.
  7. I just hope lil ol' smyrna can hang in there against this legendary, spectacular, rich in tradition power house that is MARYVILLE. These boys took it to riverdale last year with their WORST team since like 2000. smyrna just has a banged up starting running back and is missing a starting LB, probably just going to be another BLOWOUT against the 2nd WORST MARYVILLE team since 2000. Geez bulldogs, should have just laid down and forfeited already...smyrna faithful, alumni, students, don't even bother going to the game. The RIGOROUS, RIDICULOUSLY TOUGH (yet somehow underrated) schedule MARYVILLE has played has left them WAY more prepared than the little ol lavergnes smyrna has played. I pray for you bulldogs... ALL HAIL THE MARYVILLE REBELS Lord knows they are the CHOSEN ONES and come to CoachT for motivation! If anyone feels gracious enough to give a little hope to the bulldogs of smyrna please do! MARYVILLE - 59 smyrna - 2 (Safety at the end of the game given by MARYVILLE) EAST TENNESSEE FOOTBALL REIGNS SUPREME...AGAIN!
  8. Anyone have a recap or some stats from the game?
  9. This about sums it up...good luck Bulldogs, leave it all on the field.
  10. So funny to me that Maryville (who has had great success in 4A) is comparing themselves to the only 5A back-to-back public school champions...but hey obviously East Tennessee is great at football, no denying that. Just really funny how you have yet to win with the big boys, yet have the biggest mouth....White Station took it to you guys last year, be honest, Smyrna has yet to lose in a State Championship, to go along with the rest of District 7 who has lost what...1 state championship game?
  11. Not here to start rumors but apparently his high school career may be over due to an injury. Really a shame I would love to see #45 and #5 out there for these last few games if they make it through. Smyrna can do it with out them, just going to be a lot harder.
  12. Really a shame for Smyrna. Ever since 6th grade I can remember #5 and #45 being close buddies and studs on the football team. They went through Middle School dominating competition. I even recall talking to them their Freshmen year how they used to talk to each other on the field during kick offs debating "who would take this one back to the house." #5 was as lucky to get his Middle School jersey retired during his Freshmen year of High School ball. There was always a silent debate whether who had more impact in the High School game, I will not touch that argument. I've seen both players countless times make plays that were jaw dropping and have amazing games (see #5's performance as a True Freshmen vs Independence 5A State Championship.) But somehow, it seems like it will be a disappointment. #5 is questionable while #45 is doubtful, it's really a shame they will not get to lead their own team to a chance for a championship. With that being said, I think (as much as it pains me to say being a Smyrna Alumni), this is it...I think this is where my last ties to SHS leave the school ringless. Whitehaven seems to be playing well, they had a pretty good season last year, they have Smyrna on the 3 hour bus ride (probably 4 the way school buses are), and more importantly Smyrna's Mr. Football Lineman is out, along with their Pitt commitment. Now I know Smyrna is a deep team, at HB they showed that, at WR they have some great athletes, TE is a very underrated position for the Bulldogs, and of course both lines and the defense are fairly deep. I just think there is too much going against the Bulldogs. Not to mention the fact if they get past this game who they'll most likely be playing. I wish emotions could carry you 2 more games, I wish players never had to miss games, but it just seems like everything is going right for Whitehaven. Final Score: Whitehaven - 17 Smyrna - 13 Hoping I'm wrong... ALSO: Nice little video of Smyrna vs Blackman last Friday Smyrna is a Balanced team more tendency to run than pass. A mobile quarterback who throws the deep ball well. What about Whitehaven? Any video/high lights on them? Key players to watch for? D1 recruits?
  13. 2p, if you knew the situations maybe you'd understand. I guess Shad's daughters have no reason to bail on their school have no reason either?
  14. Please excuse my comments earlier about Shad. This situation was a VERY odd one to say the least. After doing some digging and finding out the background story of everything I can say that I would have done the same thing. MTCS has many problems within its own with the whole Waldron and Throneberry family situations. However, when Shadowens left Smyrna for MTCS, it was for family reasons, he left to watch his daughters grow up and be closer to them (In case you didn't know, having a business and job and maintaining a good family life is pretty hard). Problems arose when the Girls Basketball coach apparently didn't treat his older daughter right, Shad isn't a guy who is going to lash out at another person so he handled it the way any other Parent would, he pulled his kid. Now unfortunately he had to pick, Kids he had promised he had be there for, or HIS children, and he went with Family First. All I can say is may God bless Coach Shad, because he will be flamed for this FOR AWHILE, and it is unjust. If you yourself, can admit you wouldn't put your family first, then I have no respect for you. Now for Blackman, lets just be honest, they are going to be STACKED this year. If I were Jeremiah I'd be looking for a way out of Smyrna after the season was over, now that this has happened, Blackman looks VERY tempting. Coach Williams ran a vanilla offense with possibly the best athletes in Smyrna (Did you see the defense?!?!?!). I do know one thing is for sure, Coach Williams isn't the favorite with certain players families, and now with the opportunity to get under Shad's wings..we may see A LOT of transfers. And also a lot of reunions, as stars from Blackman used to attend Smyrna Middle and know Jeremiah, Deon, Kece, a lot of the players who are in the rumor to be transferring. This will be interesting, VERY interesting.
  15. Wow, what a slap in the face to Smyrna and MTCS. I thought he left Smyrna to watch his daughters grow up? Now what will be his excuse? And to think I really had HIGH respect for this man. What a slap in the face...
  16. Congrats Oakland, I'm a Senior at SHS, and I can't beleive this is how its all going to end. I guess 2 state championships back to back was spoiling everyone here. What a GREAT game, you can't give enough credit to Oakland. Even after all the doubt I had in them they pulled it out, they are truely a great team. It was a mirror match, and the team who made fewer mistakes one. I can't even begin to count the number of 3rd down and 4th down conversions that Oakland had, what a great clutch offense. I can only hope that Smyrna continues to be a great football team as I won't be here to watch and give the insider info I know any longer. Smyrna Seniors, I'm so proud of what we all went through. For those who don't know the class of 09 went 0-8 our freshmen year not recording a win, and for us to end on this note leaves a sour taste in our mouth, but not bitter. Good luck Oakland, sharpen up those penalties, passing game, and pass defense, because I think the Owls will put it all to the test. Great Defense, Great rushing attack, thats all you need to win, 2 more games Oakland, one at a time Pats!
  17. How can you honestly say that experience plays no factor in this game... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Good luck to both teams, I'll be back after the game win or lose giving credit to both teams no matter what. And when you find a post from me that says 'Smyrna will win because they're back to back champs' I'll buy you dinner wherever you want, back to back nights.
  18. I clearly wasn't saying we were gonna win State because we had 2 years before, I said the experience HELPS. Because it does, as an athlete when you find yourself in the same situation you know how to react to things, you know how to prepare yourself to do the best you can. If you haven't been there, you don't prepare the same, you don't react the same..its proven again and again in every athletic competition out there...Thats all I'm saying. If you wanna crown them, then crown them. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  19. Not trying to start anything, but my friend smyrna=statechamps06 does have a valid point in that a lot of the starters this year got experience in late games in the past 2 years. We both know the players personally seeing/talking to them everyday, they pretty much all have play off experience. I could name off players that played last year and saw significant PT if you would like? But believe me, the experience they got from the past 2-3 years has really paid off. The Bulldogs know what it takes to win state, they know how to prepare, and they are anxious to get on the field.
  20. I dont even recall saying the game is tonight but okay. Thanks for responding, as I wanted to make sure who to watch for Friday night. I'm curious to know how many 100yd rushing games each of your RB's have had, I don't think very many. Oakland is a great team, I'm not downing them, they just are not a championship team in my honest opinion, and I've watched a lot of football in different levels. People used to say Riverdale had a swagger everytime they played a game, Smyrna now has that swagger. Now it can be negative, there's no doubt about that, but I just don't see Smyrna losing to Oakland. Oakland is strictly 1 Dimensional, and it just so happens that Oakland's 1 dimension is Smyrna's Defensive strength. Now our secondary is no joke either, we've got athletes all around to spread the wealth. Hager, Shaw, Watts, Johnson, Corey, are all extremely talented CB's. Honestly, your size could be a concern, but with our pass rush I think the QB will be making bad throws if he even attempts more than 7 passes. Our secondary is medium sized Shaw - 5'9 Hager - 6'3 Corey - 5'9 Johnson - 5'8 Watts - 5'8 Laith - 5'8 Jenkins - 6' So it should be interesting. But the fact that you have plenty of both side starters would concern me if I were you. If Smyrna pounds the ball and gets many 3rd down conversions, this will lead to trouble for the Patriots. We have all we need to win, all we need is a game of execution. Oaklands offense isn't very potent, so if we don't turn the ball over on our own 20yd line, I believe we can tolerate 2-3 turn overs. More Room for Error = More Chance to Win Good luck to both teams, and just know that Smyrna isn't overlooking anyone we just expect to win. If you need any info on our team, players to watch let me know, I would like to be as educated on this Oakland team as possible.
  21. Okay I am gonna just make it simple for everyone about the future, and right now about Smyrna. Also why they are going to win tonight. Smyrna's Freshmen/Youth in the program: QB - 2 Young QB's, one coming back from this year who was injured all season. He is a dual threat QB. Varsity experiance again Brentwood Academy when Sonny went down in 07. 13 (soph) - Starting now, DOESNT turn the ball over, hasn't but 1 time in the past 3-4 games I believe. He is very solid, some-what of a dual threat QB. Not naturally a QB. 14 (soph) - Backup now, solid QB, strong arm, naturally a QB. RB's - #5 (Bryson) soph - VERY quick, elusive, low to the ground runner with a good stiff arm, we all know what he can do off watching him in the State Championship in 07 #6 (Hicks) Senior - Powerful runner with break-away speed, has had multiple TD runs by RUNNING OVER opposing Linebackers, meaning he usually gets to the 2nd level of the defense because of his size and strength. #2 (Brown) Jr - Quick, athletic, strong, going to split time next year, you may see some runs with him if either of the RB's go down. Proven runner on Varsity level. WR's - #8 Hager - Great athlete, great hands, great hops. Overall he is a great WR however doesn't like to go across the middle. (Also a b-ball player) #9 Martin - Great athlete again, great hands, great hops. Has had some snags this season, pretty dependable. (Also a B-ball player) #21 (Gage) - Elusive to say the least, lots of screens will be run to him where he can cut up field. #4 Andrew Jenkins - Great hands, just a possession WR that is go-to in clutch times come 4WR sets. D-Line - O-Line Eady, Woods, Richardson, Cadena, would all START in every high school program in the state on one of the line at least. Also some young freshmen and sophomores that are getting better with the PT collected when switching in and out of games. LB/SS Full of HYBRID athletes who will hit. Hybrid meaning they are not TRUE LBs and SSs. Due to the defense the Bulldogs run a lot of guys are suited in positions that better suit there attributes. For instance #10 is a SS that plays as the OLB pretty much, but is more of a CB/S but hits like a LB. Also #45 who is very quick and a fast hitter, this defense is full of ATHLETES who love to HIT. That is all you need to know. As for the game, Smyrna is hitting on all cylinders, offense, defense, special teams (Outside of Yoder's punts). Oakland is a great team, however I doubt they will complete more than 5 passes in this game. I do not think that they will move the ball very effectively. The Oakland defense is great, however they have not faced a RB tandum like this as well as a QB that can move the ball down the field with his arm. Last time Oakland played Smyrna it was more like Oakland vs Bryson. This week you'll see a lot more. I believe my Bulldogs will hang up atleast 21 on these Patriots. No disrespect, but Oakland is not used to being here as of late, and its time they go back to where they belong, in the stands watching. Smyrna - 24 Oakland - 10 Oakland on an early TD, held to a FG for the rest of the game. Smyrna with 1 Special Teams TD, and 2 Rushing TD's. Maybe a Play Action pass to Richardson (15). Goodluck and be safe to everyone going to this game.
  22. If Maryville would have played Smyrna, they would've lost, if they played in the play-offs that is lol. Sonny + Rod was just something too special to lose their Senior year, and they have an amazing connection. Combo that with a TON of great players at Smyrna, probably the best team in the state. I'm sorry that will never know, but I know for a fact that Smyrna is #1 and if they would've played MBA and Maryville in the play-offs for a Tournament of the #1 teams, Smyrna would win it all. Those 2 are something special, and all those players you listed NEVER had a connection like Wilks and Gray have, keep that in mind.
  23. Great season bulldogs, I can't wait to be out there my Senior year next year! Did anyone else kinda get a chill when Sonny and Rod came out of the game and Coach Shad immediately hugged those 2 at the same time? I feel kind of blessed to have seen 2 kids work together so good and be proud of one another no matter what the other one accomplishes. Thanks for the memories guys!
  24. Smyrna is GOING to win, guaranteed. Sonny + Rod in their last game together, no, they wont lose, mark it down.
  25. http://www.storkmontgomery.com/Spotlights.aspx those are high lights of some of our players. whoever can get pass rush will win this game. period. running game won't really be a factor, but goodness, pass rush will mean soooo much. good luck Smyrna, I wanna have another state championship run guys, you really have earned it. Losing Day, Reuben, Crouch, James Williams, Antoine, Maceo, and many others. You have showed so much heart just be go into this game like any other game. You've been here before so you know what its like. Its not over til the clock is all 0's, just DONT remember that. People, lets not say Sonny refuses to lose, THIS SENIOR CLASS refuses to lose in big games. Look at them, ever since Middle school we've seen these kids grow up since some were 12. Sonny is a heck of a QB and he will bring his A game as this may be his last football game ever. I just can't see this class of 2008 losing this football game, too much heart. Its not all about heart, but when talent is even, as well as coaching, its all about heart. This QB from Indy seems like the real deal, but he IS just a Sophmore. Something I feel may play a factor is Indy is more of a Spread offense, so this is something Smyrna isn't as used to this play-off run. I typed all this and its pretty much pointless because like I said Pass-Rush will mean EVERYTHING, lets see if Sonny can scramble around like he did against the Ravenwood defense last year.
