  1. Not taking anything away from BA's 285, but you also have to take into account his competition. His first 2 matches were a 9th, then a 10th grader. It usually takes a while for the younger heavies to learn how to move. But Carreathars is a stud no doubt.
  2. It's amazing to me how so many people on here have a better visual than the ref. This camera is in the middle or upper bowl, yet it offers a better angle than the refferee who is 5 feet away. Tim Abel is a top notch ref, and if it's in the rule book, he's gonna call it. Regardless of whether they are quick calls or judgement calls, what gets me is why does Ofori head tie after getting hit with it 3 times? Go underhooks or work a shot or something.
  3. Congratulations to Hunters Lanes Josue Brown on his 5th place finish at 130 and McGavocks Everett Colbert for finishing 4th at 160. Also putting up good performances were: East Lits Cameron Edafe at 145, Corey Jones at 140, Luis Aguilar at 130 Glencliffs Richard Williams at 119, Orion Vankhan at 103, Antiochs Brandon Greer at 103, Chris Soubon at 112, Denzel Caldwell at 171 McGavocks Manuel Garcia at 171 MLKs Nick Johnson at 130 Hunters Lane Antonio Lillard at 130, Aaron Conyers at 215, Quentin Robinson at 285, Ebi Sikpi at 160 It's an honor to qualify and compete at the State tournament, and all these young men went down there and were and had a couple of wins, coming a match or two away from placing. Good job guys.
  4. at 130, Greer of Antioch lost to Brown of HL for 3rd. It's a shame that 130 was so tough in this region cause the 4th place finisher doesnt qualify, and Greer had a good chance of medaling in Chatt. Also heard that the older Caldwell from Ant, the 189, didnt not make weight which is why he didnt wrestle today. Is this true or was he injured??? East Lit won the team score, Glencliff 2nd, Hunters Lane and McGavock tied for 3rd. Luis Aguilar was named best wrestler. Best match was a consolation finals match. Can't remember which one, but I have no idea it got the nod anyways. I woulda voted for Edafe vs Chandler at 145. Edafe winning 4-3 if I remember correctly. It was a one point match and was a barn burner from start to finish. 189 Ferguson fall over Dalton McG 215 Garrett dec Conyers HL 285 Robinson HL dec 7-6 (?) over East Lits Heavy. Good match. 3rd place qualifiers off the top of my head 103 Vankam GL 112 East Lit 135 Schoenfield HF 152 Colbert McG 171 Caruthers GL 189 Hyde HL 215 Clemons GL 285 DCA Also, if anybody has an update on Antiochs heavyweight please post it here. He was taken out on a strethcer with a pretty bad leg injury.
  5. Claiming that there was some biased officiating is one thing, but to suggest that East Lit has gotten to where they are because of crooked refs is an extremely ignorant comment to make. Coach Wittaker has put together a great coaching staff and has managed to get alot of kids out on the team, all of whom have worked their butts off to get where they are now, turning a program around that 5 years ago had maybe 6 guys on the team, to now being a powerhouse in Middle TN. The entire team is composed of athletes who wrestle hard and give their all, and at the end of the day, they do it with class. It's already been stated that Coach Wittaker kicked a kid off the team for cussing one of the asst coaches. And the kid happened to be one of their better wrestlers. These state contenders didnt rise up out of nowhere. They've put in the hard work it takes to be successful, not relying on having a referee in their back pocket, which I believe is another ignorant thing to say. Coach Wittaker was also named Region 7 coach of the year. That's an honor you can't achieve by having a "biased ref", but is a sign of the respect that the rest of the region has for him and the hard work he puts into his program.
  6. what school is hosting this tournament?
  7. A doctors note will not allow them to compete. There is a form you can print off of TSSAA.org that has to be signed by their doctor. Only that form is accepted, simply having a note from your doc isn't enough. http://www.tssaa.org/Forms/forms.htm it's the third one listed under wrestling on the bottom of the page.
  8. I was told that Johnson made the cut to 125 against Glencliff and beat Ace, but he weighed 131 and some change at the duals this weekend so I dont see how he could get back down following his weight plan. Older Garcia will be at 171.
  9. Lowe had a temper tantrum at the state duals after getting pinned and the officials threw him and/or DQ'd him, or whatever the official term is, for unsportsmanlike conduct.
  10. I think it's worth noteing that Brenden Dusevic of ND has dropped to 171. He looked pretty good at the State Duals.
  11. I wouldnt call 145 soft with Edafe and Chandler leading the pack. Chandler is a beast, coming one match away from placing at state his 9th grade year. Injury kept him in the stands last year in Chatt, but I wouldnt be surprised at all to see him wrestling on Friday this year at state.
  12. Edafe and Chandler wrestled last night at MLK, but about 30 seconds into the match Edafe banged his knee on the floor in a scramble and injury forfeited the match. His leg was taped heavily and he had ben near the trainer for a while. I'm not sure if it was just last night or if he's been nursing an injury for a while. Hopefully he is healthy by region. Also, at 160, Colbert has beaten Sikpi once this year. not sure on the score but it wasnt close.
  13. I wouldnt be sure about that. I'm not positive, but regardless of the 2-1 record Greer has, I think the seeding favors whoever has won the most recent matchup. Don't quote me on that, but I'm almost positive that's the criteria. Also, I'm not holding my breath on Nick Johnson dropping to 125. That kid is shredded as it is and I don't see how he can shed the extra weight.
  14. Hunters Lane over Antioch in a close match. Glencliff wiped the mat with McGavock then forfeited out from 160 up. In the Final, Glencliff beat Hunters Lane in another close match. I'm not positive on the score, but I had Glencliff up by 6 at the start of the 215 match. The dual started at 103, and Robinson is pretty much a sure bet for 6 at HW, so that puts the dual score tied and 215 was the swing match with Conyers taking on Clemons. It was a dog fight with Clemons getting the pin in the 2nd peroid. I'm not sure if he hit a takedown to the back, or if Conyers went for something and slipped, but he got stuck. It was an awesome match regardless and the score was 2-1 I think in Clemons favor before the pin. Also of note, Ace Tesgaye bumped up to wrestle Josue Brown, with Brown winning a major decision. 20-13 I think. It looked like a closer match tho cause Ace is a beast himself. Brown also defeated Greer of Antioch. Not sure on that score.
  15. HL beat Antioch, Glencliff beat Mcgavock then in the final, Glencliff beat Hunters Lane in a very close match.
  16. For what it's worth, McGavock lost to Antioch a few weeks ago by just one point. And as far as Mintlow being done for the season, that's sad to hear. He's an awesome wrestler and athlete. I watched him at Hendersonville's tournament and I think he said his shoulder is still banged up from football.
  17. How is Justin Scott at 197?! His senior year he wrestled 152, and on top of that, I ran into him at a football game back in the fall and there's no way he's anywhere over 175, atleast from what I could tell. And that's with a brick in his pocket.
  18. regarding D1 HWT, Robinson placed 2nd at Ravenwood, not 1st. I think it was Clevelands HW that beat him. Score was 3-1 or 3-2, something close.
  19. I think the above the knee gym shorts he was rockin were a little bit more annoying than the whistling, but I don't want people to think I was staring...
  20. This is just off of memory but I'll list what I remember. 103 Tanner Bates of Mt. Juliet was pinned in 23 seconds. 125 Tsegaye 2nd 130 Hunters Lane 1st 135 HL 2nd 140 Kleinert 1st 152 Oakland 1st Clemons of Glencliff 2nd 160 Sikpi HL 1st Mintlow Glencliff 2nd. Glencliff got injured in like the first minute and forfeited. 171 Kenwood 1st 189 Ferguson of East Lit upset Jaekel of Hendersonville 3-2 I think was the score 215 East Lit 1st HL 2nd 285 Allen Mt. Juliet pinned Robinson of HL There were I think 5 or 6 weight classes that ran into the 5 match limit in the consolation bracket so alot of guys tied for 3rd. 125, 130, 285. Not sure on the rest. Hopefully someone can fill in my gaps here.
  21. MTSU and Austin Peay both have inturmural or whatever you call it teams. Club teams? It's not the same as going to UTC but they both go to more than a few meets and tournaments, and you would definately get ome mat time on a higher level than HS.
  22. Not sure why, but Hillwood no longer has a wrestling program, so BGA is picking up the tournament. It's the same schools that were going to be at the HW tourny, only it's now the BGA tourny at BGA.
  23. I'd like to add that Kimani Brown also placed 7th at nationals his senior year.
  24. Dosha Mintlow and Ebi Sikpi were the finals at McGavock tourny at 160. They seem to be the cream of the crop for that weight as far as region 7 goes.
