  1. lol you all are starting to sound like Alabama and Auburn fans now
  2. You are absolutely correct. I stand corrected. I have no clue what I was looking at this morning. lol.
  3. Since this is a basketball board I will stick with basketball. In the last 10 meeting dating back to January 24th 2003, Science Hill leads the series 6 to 4. I would have to say its pretty even. However I think D-B will sweep them this year on their way to a perfect conference record. The Tribe will definatly dominate this year, but I wouldn't say thats been the case the last 5 years, in basketball anyways. If I am incorrect with my information, please let me know.
  4. Far fetched? Trash talking? Hmm, where to start. How about here. This is a direct quote from an article on Tricitiessports.com. "Whittemore said that he thought the officiating was poor from one official who he did not name. He followed that up to say that he did not think it affected the outcome". I'm not sure if Mr. Bartee can read minds or not but he does well writing down what people say, after all, that is part of his job. So is that far fetched enough for you? Here is the link to the article to make it easy for you. http://www.tricitiessports.com/default.asp...rts&he=.com And as far as talking trash, all I have done is state my opinions in which pretty much all of the Big 9 agree with. I just happen to say it the loudest. Nothing I have said is even close to the talk or play that your Falcons bring to the court. The other thread was shut down because a young man was singled out. I have not singled out any players from Volunteer that I can recall except for those that have singled themselves out. If I am wrong here please show me and I will stand corrected. Coach Whitt is the only name I have mentioned, but he is a grown man and should be able to take constructive critisism. But I guess critisizing a coaches methods are taboo at Volunteer. Maybe I should show up to a game with his name along with an expletive on my t-shirt. Would that be more acceptable?
  5. Wasn't at that game but saw them play in another game. Their coach seemed pretty laid back. I also thought the officials called games at the Arby's completely different than they call conference games. Whats up with that? For example Volunteer didn't get away with half the crap they get away with in normal games. I guess that was why Coach Whitt complained about the officiating. I do want to say that compared to the past few years I think the refs have done a pretty good job this year. There will always be missed calls but for the most part they have done their best to get it right.
  6. Charlotte beat Volunteer yesterday
  7. Yes. I don't remmeber the final score, but D-B won. Iolani beat East. And Dorsey defeated Volunteer. Northview defeated Tn High. Looked liked Volunteer got some of their own medicine from Dorsey today. Now they know what the rest of the Big 9 has been complaining about
  8. ok, this caught my eye and I found this topic interesting. Nice try, but Band is not a sport. Its a part of sports, but not a sport by itself. That would be like saying officiating games is a sport. lol Its a part of sports, but not a sport. Let me ask you this. How do you keep score? Now I'm not the most educated person when it comes to bands, but doesn't a group of people judge bands at a competition? But there is no running score like in basketball, football, baseball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, golf, hockey, and even auto racing. How does a band score other than with another band member? Imagine playing 4 quarters of a football game, then a group of judges deciding who won the game. Your work ethic should be applauded, I give you that. But using your example would justify someone saying that working at Walmart is a sport. I do think that band is a very important part of sports. And without it some sports just wouldn't be the same. Nothing like hearing the band on a friday night while at a football game.
  9. PLEASE!!!! Use some punctuation so we can understand your posts.
  10. Uh, this isn't quite what I was talking about when I was defending students sections. "It probably was a bit much". Hmmm.... you think? "I mean they're all a bunch of senior boys, they're going to do stuff like this" You know, I've been to alot of high school basketball games in my time, but cannot say that I have ever seen something like that. Not to say it doesn't happen, but I don't think thats something that "a bunch of senior boys" go around doing all the time. "...even me being a parent. It was priceless to see the looks on the cherokee fans faces. They were Extremely mad." Nooo. Why in the world would someone get mad about that? And it sounds as though you ALMOST condone such activities. I guess its different when its people from Volunteer that belittle someone, but its a whole different story when someone criticizes the way you play basketball. Explains alot.
  11. How is everyone's preseason pick holding up so far? Biggest disappointment so far? Biggest suprise so far?
  12. Its sad to see people getting kicked out of high school games, but students and parents should cheer for their team and not against the other team. There is no place for students and parents to belittle kids while they are on the floor, but it happens everywhere. But at the same time, I think school officials, police officers, and referee's get a little carried away sometimes. To take shakers and other items away is just being oversensitive. And as long as students are in their designated student section then they should not be made to sit down. A rowdy student section is part of what makes the environment of a high school basketball game great. As long as they're not shouting obscence remarks or throwing things on the floor, etc. they should be left alone.
  13. TN High has lost 3 straight games. Anyone know when the last time the Vikings lost 4 straight conference games? Either they will come out dead or come out playing harder than they ever have.
  14. lol and the point guard from Unicoi since he doesn't play in the Big 9. Where is Waco? This is begging for an award
  15. I was thinking the same thing. Why in the world was this even brought up on here.
  16. Looks like 8 out of 9 teams agree on how Volunteer plays /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. I agree. But I bet it happens somewhere and they give the ball back to Team A.
  18. Could use some periods in there to define where one sentence ends and another begins. I live in a different part of the state than you, however I must say that the officials here seem to be getting better. In the past I have really dogged the officials on here but I have been impressed by them this year. Now not to say they don't miss calls or make bad ones, but it has not been nearly as bad as it has been in years past. Oh, by the way, you DO NOT have to be set to take a charge. You must have the position on the floor. An example of what would happen if the rule was as you state. If the player with the ball is be guarded closely by a defensive player, then all he would need to do is fake one way, cross over the other way and when the defender moved just run over him. If you had to be set to take a charge then my example would always be a blocking foul. By the TRUE rule, it would be a charge.

  20. Question and answer sessions are good for both the officials and the fans. Would like to see more of this. However everyone has to understand that its not a gripe session. Here is a question, what is the rule on blocking out someone shooting a jump shot? Do you have to give the shooter room to come back down before you make contact?
  21. Here is a scenerio that I have thought about. Team A has the ball. Player A for Team A has an injury occur and is hobbling up the court. Player B for Team A throws Player A the ball. Player A is unable to catch the ball due to the injury and the ball goes out of bounds. How does an official handle that situation? Is it Team B's ball? Or do you stop the game for Team A to sub players and then give them the ball back?
  22. Better watch it!! Keep saying bad things about the Foul-Cons and you will get into trouble. You might need one of these.
