I think you can always make excuses for not winning. However, middle school is where wrestlers work and learn to get ready for high school. It makes no difference that some teams join together with other areas in order to fill a team and be more competitive. It is the ability to compete with and practice with the best that will get the wrestlers ready. When they get to high school it will be a truly "school" team effort. What excuses will you make then will you once again claim unfair competition, recruiting, BAD REFS? Personally, I saw the match with the TN team and Seymour. The kid cried out he was being choked every time he was about to be pinned. There are always going to be times that your wrestlers have to make the best of a situation, (maybe someone is pushing the limits of what is a legal move) do you teach them to complain or do you teach them to do their best and learn from each experience. Who did your varsity wrestlers blame last year when they couldn't compete at the state?

If sharp shooters are a combo team- what is the difference b/w them and "all-star" teams???

Are you saying that your son was not a top wrestler from the state? Or, was he the only one who was???

And... not all schools are large enough to have enough kids to fill a team. So I think Pinstaff has stepped up to give wrestlers (including his son) the opportunity to be competitive. However, most of the tournaments (sonic, harpeth, Indian, Dixie) have allowed kids unattached to compete. If you want to be included instead of complaining, try spending as much time researching your options as you do complaining. I guess this forum would not exist if that happened????

Maybe you show up for some of the tournaments that the kids who are on the team are scheduled wrestle. If you beat the kids who everyone claims are representing the particular weight classes, then I'm sure team TN would want you. Then everyone could quit complaining.

Matbrat, TNAAU does not have a rule that states a kid must wrestle for his "zone" or district. In fact, you should look at the handbook. There are classifications for the different levels of clubs that can compete within the same tournament. Super Club is something you might want to look at. Middle school competition is supposed to be about getting better for high school. If you do not give wrestlers the opportunity to wrestle the best competition in middle school, then they will NOT be ready for H.S. Teams that group the best athletes together to dual and work together as a team will better prepare them for H.S. Clubs that complain about teams that are represented by a larger area have the choice of doing the same thing or the choice to compete in the tournaments they are qualified for. Perhaps if they only participate in tournaments on their level then they would not complain or dodge certain wrestlers by forfeiting.

Before you judge a family you should have to walk in their shoes. It is funny how everyone is an expert when it comes to something that doesn't effect them. Jealousy can ruin a team's chemistry. The Burroughs family have had to make some hard choices that should be respected.

In a perfect world that is true. However if you have the opportunity to play for a program that bases playing time on your class in school, or last name, then you would understand. Practice and work ethic is not always rewarded. Sometimes if you practice too hard (* especially defense) you have to sit out so the first team can run the plays. If they can't perform in practice how can they do it in a game. Maybe the program has a superstar player who can control the game at least 90% of the time and so those tactics are not challenged. Like I said before, many times the only players who are exempt to those kind of situations ( public or private) are the players you can't win without. Sometimes a certain last name can also get you further, but even that is temporary if you can't produce.

It is sad that this sort of thing goes on but it DOES. Your only choice is to transfer immediately. At a program like this, neither you or your child have any real friends. It just rolls down hill. Unfortunately, it will not in most cases damage the program you leave because if they could not win without your daughter then you would not be posting on this forum. The only person that suffers is your daughter and life is toooo short for this experience. Don't hesitate, it will NOT get better. Your daughter deserves a positive H.S. experience.
