  1. It certainly seems that way. If you're in a close match with a Chattanooga kid it seems as though the official seems bias. I agree that Don Elsea is a very good official and well respected from Chattanooga to Middle, TN. He seemed to make the call no matter who the wrestler or the coach. If a kid is called for stalling for sitting on the hips and continue to stay there after the first warning then the stalling call should be made. It's pointless to make the stalling call and then not penalize the offensive wrestler when it occurs a second time. There were only four officials that consistently made the stalling calls through out the tournament.
  2. The officiating was not perfect mind you, but there were some inconsistentcy in regards to the way calls were made. The Div II 140 semi finals match between Bell and Cash was just one example where a wrestler was allowed to stall the entire period and not one call was made. The official as set by the provisions in the rule book shall penalize stalling immediately. On two occasions Bell held on the legs of Cash at the line never working to back to the hip and not one stalling call came against Bell. Cash came to his feet 10-12 times in the second period. The Div I 160 finals match with Wright and Creagan. Wright got on his bicycle during the last period and the official made the call way too late. The Div II 189 finals match with Williams and Mix. Williams stalled the entire third period and the call if made was late. The Div I 152 finals match with Spain and Toney. The official awarded a stalling point to the offensive wrestler. The bottom guy could not move because the top guy was literally sitting on his hips. The Div I finals match at 189 Robertson and Hall from Maryville. There was a situation where the match should have been stalemated. The official allowed them to sit there for nearly 40 seconds before stopping the action. Neither wrestler could improve their position and therefore the official shall, as soon as possible STOP the match and wrestling shall be resumed as for an out of bounds. The above examples are in NO WAY meant to diminish the State Champions. Bell, Wright, Williams and Spain are the State Champions and Congratulations to those guys. They're not at all responsible for the actions and calls of the officials. So before the comments pour in about someone whinning, I'm NOT. But unless there is a level on consistency attained with the ranks of high school officiating this will continue. I don't have a dog in the fight as of yet. But, when he does get to Chattanooga he'll have already learned to never leave it the guy wearing the stripes. Now, on the positive. There were far far more instances of really good officials having not missed a beat. However, we have a tendency, myself included to focus on the mistakes. For those officials that did a good job and you know who you are, THANK YOU. My comments are merely meant and should be taken in a constructive manner.
  3. Congratulations Cam. It's hard to believe this kid is only 14 and was just wrestling on the middle school Iowa Team last year. Another year under the direction of Blair and the support of Jim, Cameron Croy is going to be very hard to beat.
  4. Congratulations to Josh and Daniel! I know their NUMBER #1 FAN, their DAD, has to be extremely proud of those boys. Daniel wrestled a very good match! He will be fun to watch in the years to come.
  5. I would first like to Congratulate Jeremy on winning the Div. I 103lb State Championship. Great Job! Jackie you've got to be PROUD! The youngest State Champion before 8th grade Jeremy Miller was Jody Chamberlain in 1963 from The School of the Blind. Competing in the state's third annual championship at Red Bank Junior High, the young Chamberlain at the age of 15 pinned Buddy Parker (East Ridge) in the quarters (2:38), posted a semifinal decision against Red Bank's Sam Moncier – who would win the state's lightest weight title a year later in 1964 – before disposing of his Everett High School opponent in 3:42 with a strong half nelson and chicken wing for that coveted first place medal. Chamberlain would again claim the state title in 1965 at 112 weight class. And his state tournament semifinal foe was current McCallie coach Gordon Connell, who would jump three weights the next year to win it all at 132 pounds in 1966. Chamberlain blanked Connell of Brainerd, 4-0, before handily disposing of Red Bank's Billy Land, 12-2, in the finals held at Brainerd High School.
  6. I second that Congrats! Tom you've got to proud of your son. Big Ups to Nick Marable and others that have decided to take it to the next level.
  7. 103 It would be an absolute DOG fight with Jeremy Miller, 8th grader from Greenback HS. who beat Simpson at Ryan, Talon Noman from Overton, that nearly lost to Miller from Greenback at Ryan, Baucke from CBHS, who lost to Simpson in the duals, Simpson from MBA that lost to Manley from Baylor in the duals. Then you have to figure Matt King from Greenville and Justin Hammons from Soddy Daisy as being a factor. It would be difficult to call this one with so much talent. 112 I believe Bailey Whitaker would pin or tech Francise from MBA. However, Tee Boone from Notre Dame and Randolph can't be taken lightly. Not to mention the top DOG in Div I at 112 from Cleveland, Josh Jadoobersingh. However, it's my opinion that Whitaker could win the 112 state title in either division. 119 Young Duncan is indeed a very good wreslter and should win the state at 119 as an 8th grader. However, if you were to combine the two divisions my money is on Adamson from Notre Dame.
  8. Congrats to Soddy Daisy, Coach Henry and his staff. Soddy Daisy is a very strong team and a force to reckon with.
  9. That was a shocker! Simpson wrestled really well against Baucke. I don't think anyone would have anticipated that young Simpson would have wrestled that well.
  10. 103 Alex Manley (Baylor) over Daniel Baucke (CBHS) or Mark Simpson (MBA)-decision 112 Bailey Whitaker (Baylor) over Jeff Francis (MBA)-major decision 119 Duncan (McCallie) over Carney (CBHS)-major decision 125 John Micheal Simpson (MBA) over John Mark Sloan (Father Ryan)-major decision 130 Patrick Marchetti (Father Ryan) over Joe Young (McCallie)-decision 135 Ben Johnson (Baylor) VS. Justin Cash (Brentwood Academy)-toss up 140 Zach Goss (McCallie) over Jeffrey Townes (Brentwood Academy)-decision 145 Josh Baucke (CBHS) over Chance Hayes (Baylor)-decision 152 Reed Doster (Baylor) VS. Yoseph Beki (Brentwood Academy)-toss up 160 Dan Waddell (Baylor) over Goodrum (Father Ryan)-major decision 171 Darius Williams (CBHS) over Aaron Bateman (Father Ryan)-decision 189 Kevin Mix (Father Ryan) over Zach Gordon (MUS)-decision 215 Jabari Tuani (Brentwood Academy) over Ben Bartholomew (MBA)-decision 285: Zach Herman (Father Ryan) over McClain Still (Baylor)-decision
  11. You're assuming that I'm a parent of a private school student. You do know that Franklin was there as well! FYI: PARENTS, PRIVATE OR PUBLIC DON'T PAY THE OFFICIAL. THE SCHOOL DOES. So, why don't you dig a little deeper into understanding how it works and try not to display your envy so publicly. I believe I said that every dual match is deserving of an experienced official. However, the constitution does afford you the freedom of speech no matter how ridiculous the statement. You have a nice day and enjoy the real world.
  12. I don't believe the official was new. I've seen him around for several years. The question is who determines what officials call the more high profile match ups. Please, dont get me wrong. Every dual match is deserving of an experienced and knowledgeable official. However, I know that there are more experienced officials available to have called that match up.
  13. The outcome of the team scores would have been a little different if the official would have not been afraid to make the call based on the rules and illustrations in the case book. MBA would have still won the dual, but the officiating was horrible. The official does not have to be perfect, but he does have to protect the interest and well being of each and every wrestler. You achieve this by enforcing the rules as written. A figure four from the neutral position is ILLEGAL yet it was allowed to continue. The MBA wrestler that was caught in the figure four could have been potentially injured, but luckily he wasn't. STALLING should be penalized immediately not when it becomes convenient in deciding the outcome of the match. The official should have MANED UP!
  14. True. BA didn't stand a chance against Ryan. However, several of the matches where Ryan came out on top were close and could have gone either way. Overall Ryan is still the stronger of the two teams.
  15. bkpres My apology. My post weren't intended to cause a conflict. Perhaps I misread the post. I do realize that NCW has a group of fine young men and outstanding wrestlers.
