  1. You can thank Bill Tripplett for the format. He is the district chair and came up with the plan to cross bracket. As far as it hurting Polk, NO WAY. Polk finished early and had Phillips pretty much at FULL REST. McMinn used alot of pitching to get by Boyd. They had to throw the ace of their staff TWICE against Boyd. So, on paper, everything pointed to Polk being the favorite. Just admit that Mcminn was better on this day. And, if you look at last week, Polk and Central split whith Central basically giving away the last game due to taking players out. So, as I see it, McMinn leads the series 2 to 1 and are district champs. This from an unbiased fan of NEITHER team. Good luck in region. I hope they meet again since they represent 5AA. Both are quality teams and can do well in sectionals. Dont take Marion or Hixson lightly though, particuarly Marion. They can flat out hit. by the way, who did Central throw?
  2. Also, Congratulations to Polk for defeating Meigs. What's going to be interesting is to see how Central or Boyd fares Wednesday. Not sure either will have alot of pitching left because I know that each team will throw anybody and everybody today in order to try and advance to region.
  3. McMinn and Boyd play again at 6:00p.m. this evening at McMinn. The series is tied at 1 and the winner will play at Polk County for the district championship. The winner of this game tonight automatically qualifies for the region. Last night's game was a good one. Boyd pplayed very well and made very few errors. Central booted the ball around a little which helped but for this night Boyd outplayed them. Boyd left many on bases and could have easily scored more. Tonight's game could be a good one. I would assume Britt Shaw will come back on 2 days rest to throw. He is a stud. Will be fun to watch hopefully. Good luck to both teams.
  4. It was a good game. I know for a fact that BBS Coach went to Polk because he felt the POLK Coach was making up how wet the field was. There was no standing water at 5:50 that day and the field was in great condition. Bottom line, Tripplett didn't want to play that day because it was quite cool (around 50). The principals never talked. The game was always going to be made up, just not on the Wednesday. As to the throwing incident. The Polk player was hit below the shoulders. I have no idea if it were intentional even tough I doubt it. The Boyd hitter yesterday was beaned right in the ear hole. This was a very close call to being a MAJOR injury. That was classless! Dont you just love rumors by the way! As for the game, it was a good game. The HR was clearly fair. It continued to curve after it went over and it landed foul, but it went over fair and kept curving. Both teams had some mistakes that hurt them but both played pretty well. Polk is awfully talented. One of the best hitting lineups around and Phillips is a Stud. Boyd continues to improve and I hope they get to play again.
  5. The Lady Bucs upset Sweetwater last night. Sweetwater has beaten Tellico, Tyner, and I think Polk County recently. Not a bad win for a team with no coaches huh? Congrats to the Lady Bucs.
  6. One more piece of information, there was one upperclassman that was "begged to play." In actuality, she wasn't begged. She was given time to think about it and her decision had nothing to do with coaches but involved life issues and decisions, so again, know your facts please.
  7. There are 9 schools that moved up due to the multiplier. BBS is one of them. This team would compete for the state tournament in 1A in the chattanooga area. As a matter of fact, BBS went to the sectionals in their last year of 1A ball with a team that is not nearly as good as this one. As for the 6 players that did not come out, most of them were not very good to be honest and didnt get any playing time last year. One was a team cancer that the girls loved not having out and the other one plays select soccer and will probably play in college. So we need to get facts straight before u come on here and rip people for not being a good coach. That's whats wrong with these boards. Alot of ignorant people making comments they know nothing about!
  8. By the way, let me say also that I think the strength of Jurrick's game is his defense. He is a great presence in the paint. He can block a shot from many areas. If he can refine his offensive game, he could actually go pretty far.
  9. First of all, your screenname says alot (KID). I have seen more basketball that you have ever dreamed about and I have seen Jurrick many times. Please do not think I am knocking anyone's season. East Ridge had a great year and should be very proud of their accomplishment. The student body was great last night and it was a good night for their school. Now, let me point out some obvious things concerning Jurrick. I do believe that Pearl and staff can make him a better player. I am not convinced that he is SEC material as of yet. Here are my thoughts. Watching him from just last night. #1 He struggles from the foul line. He shoots a line drive with very little touch. #2 He struggles with any shot outside 3 - 4 feet. If he gets right at the basket, he is AWESOME. Keep him away from the rim and he is average. In college, he will not be able to back down 6 -2 post kids as he has done in High School. #3 Alot of his points last night came on tip ins. Once again, he got to the rim and jumped over a 6-5 kid who was not very athletic. He will not be jumping over 6'5 SEC post players who are not athletic. #4 THE KID CANT TURN OVER HIS RIGHT SHOULDER after a post feed. He ALWAYS turns left and then if he isnt right at the rim, he passes. Now, he is a GREAT PASSER. But big men in college need to do more than pass. If the defense plays behind him and sits on his left shoulder, he never turns to even look at the basket. #5 SOMEONE needs to teach him a drop step. He does not have this in his game currently and this makes him easy to guard. Now, with all that said. He has some talent and I think he is a good player. I just don't believe he is as good as his hype. I am not sure why you have to come on here and insult my knowledge of the game. While you were going nuts and cheering for your team that shot like 15% last night, I was actually studying the game for its nuances. Congrats to East Ridge and I can't wait to follow Jurrick to see what happens. Good luck Phillip!
  10. Please don't turn this great thread into a recruiting debate. GROW UP! Let me give you some cheese with your whine! Boyd won it in 1996 with Coppinger and the guys. The current assistant at Boyd, Hunter Johnston, was on that team. That team was honored last season for the ten year reunion! Way to go Region 3.
  11. Turnovers will kill you against Howard. Must limit them or you are in trouble. One post on here did say that SC's man defense could not stop their penetration. Anyone that sees Howard play knows their half court offense is built on penetration alone. They run no real sets. Congrats SC on a good season.
  12. Howard 65-45 SC plays man, bet they didn't play much zone. Play these guys zone and you have a chance. Play them man and you are dead. Good luck Howard! My friends at Boyd feel good about the way they played Howard (loss 45-40). Played zone the whole game until the end when they had to play man. Hope Howard brings it home to Hamilton County. But, my money is on Liberty Tech!
  13. Alex Wells could not throw it in the ocean. He played awful. Got into his head and was totally uneffective. Jurrick is the most underused big man I have ever seen. Unless he can learn to make some moves when he gets the ball, this kid will struggle. I have seen him a few times and I feel he is very overrated. Word has it that Pearl has already offered. He knows what he is doing, but I just don't see it. #5 for ER got a T in the last minute of the game that totally blew any chance ER had. What a dumb play. Congrats to ER for a great year, but they got outplayed for most of the game tonight. Coaching job on both ends was pretty poor as well.
  14. Don't get me wrong. UC is a great team that got beat. They deserve the title last year. But arrogance leads to the downfall of many. I doubt the players were arrogant but I was tired of reading about how good they were from their fans!
  15. I have seen Howard often. They are not good shooters. They have a couple of guys that can hit a few but if you keep them from getting into transition and keep them from the basket in the half court sets, you have a chance. You also have to take away their offensive rebounding. East Ridge did those things in the district and won. I assume they did that last night as well. Boyd did that in the region and had chances to win. They limited Howard's transition game for all of the game except two - three minutes in the second quarter and that proved to be the difference in the game. I think if you allow them 6 three pointers a game you can survive if you dont give up transition and offensive rebounds. I am impressed by East Ridge. For a long time, I thought Jurick was overrated but I am not so sure now. It may be that he only plays as hard as he needs to. I think both of these teams have a chance to move on. They will play very good teams from the other region they match up with. It will be tough.
