  1. Last night against FRA, CPA showed that they are a legitimate contender for state. It would be difficult to play much better than what saw of CPA last night. Pressure "D" that looked like a nightmare for FRA. Combine that with about 80% shooting and CPA can beat ANYBODY on a given night. GO LIONS !!
  2. Even though I think FRA will come to play and may give CPA all they want, in the end, I think CPA just has to many weapons. Even if you slow down the normal scoring of CPA by slowing the game down, the Z shot blocking and rebounding is a huge factor that is hard, if not impossible, to stop. It may rain 3s tonight as well. It's a good match up and I'm sure both teams will "leave it all on the floor".
  3. If what we've seen is what we have to go from then....from what I've seen....Drew WILL continue to succeed. And since you are so experienced at winning and "KNOW" what a good coach is, then you certainly know that building a winning program is a "process". Seems like it would be more productive to criticize someone who had his/her chance and failed than a young coach in the 2nd year of his career. You haven't let the process work so how could you possibly be so sure. Absurd.
  4. While you do make a few good points, your criticism of CPA is subtle and smacks of someone who may not wish us well. That's ok though....as you say, you're entitled to your opinion. CPA is having a great year due to a lot of different factors. Sure, this year we happen to have a lot of talent on this team. (none of which are "gym-rats") Also, alll of our coaches are extremely skillful and communicate brilliantly with the team. It doesn't take the "long term" to see that. I've seen more than one game that was "won" by a coaching adjustment. That doesn't happen by accident. In the spirit of making a legitimate post regarding our schedule, all of the teams in 9AA come to play every night and we've had to play hard and smart to win. (I'll bet the other teams are tired of hearing how "down" they are this year) How about Livingston Academy, Harpeth High, Memphis Melrose, and McGavock High this year? All big CPA wins against much larger schools outside of 9AA. In our Kentucky showcase loss, after a poor start we played the #1 team in Kentucky "even" to the end. If memory serves me, even college teams balance their schedule with programs larger and smaller than their own. No, I don't agree that CPA is an easy team to coach. This is a team that has a lot of expectations on them. No, I don't think a bunch of teenagers motivate themselves. Our coaches are constantly working on our teams confidence. They know every one is bringing their "A" game. Our guys take nothing for granted and, however it goes, we expect a fight to the finish. Just my humble opinion. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  5. First I want to say that my comment here is not meant to be confrontational nor violate the rules of this very friendly board. I do love a good healthy banter about sports but I think all the hyper-analytical basketball talk about the "quality" of the entire CPA roster is just...well....odd. Do you have a point with all this? Ok..sure, we are enjoying the benefits of some really talented players who are being coached by one of the finest men you will ever meet. I just want to say that we at CPA, now and in the future, support ALL of our young men. They, starters or not, are all valuable and we seek to motivate all of them to be the best they can be. We have ALL quality young men. We build them up as a team, win as a team and sometimes lose as a team. They are a "lethal combination" as a TEAM.
  6. You obviously haven't seen CPA play much. Everyone has done a nice job feeding Z and Miller. It's that way by design and the guys are executing beautifully most of the time. It is true that most of the CPA scoring comes from Hunter Miller and Z Mason, again by design. The other guys are doing exactly what Coach Maddux is asking.
  7. Starters only played about half the game.
  8. IF....CPA plays their normal game they should win this one. You can be sure that the guys and the coaches don't take any game for granted. I'm sure both teams will come to play.
  9. This will certainly be a test for both teams. My guess is that it will be a battle of the two post players with the victory going to who stays out of foul trouble. CPA will bring it's ususal balanced attack but will need a high percentage from the outside and low turnovers to win.
  10. All good posts with legit credits. Many great teams which makes basketball in TN a lot of fun. I think it's hard to say about line ups because few of us actually see all the teams play. Most of us have a limited perspective. So what makes a great starting line up? It has to be experience, size, knowing your role and shooting from all five players. It's the teams that find ways to win even when it's an off night. CPA has my vote because I've seen them enough to know that they have a lot of firepower and experience just like a lot of the teams listed in this forum. And, they are 3-0 already against two serious teams in Livingston Academy and Harpeth. Not to say this is the best line up in the state but certainly one of the best. And like many teams they also have some solid players that could start at any time. It really take the whole roster to get it done. Hunter Miller-6'1" point guard David Anderson- 6'2" guard Kyle Reeves-6'3" guard-forward Z Mason-6'6" post Jake Peterson-6'3" forward
  11. Certainly Doc has the ability to coach and win. Personel may be young this year though and Gereld has moved on in pretty good fashion. To be fair, MLK has not played yet. They start on Nov. 27 against Brentwood Academy. No matter how young, I would expect them to be athletic and well coached.
  12. Z Mason from CPA is averaging almost 30 in three games. 6'6" with ups, strength, speed, hands, brains, and an outside shot to boot.
  13. When fans from two schools can agree the game was called poorly, then you know for sure that it actually was. I'm still disgusted and we won. What does that say? I'd like to see these two teams "really" play with a good crew calling it. That would be some good basketball !
  14. You must be kidding about the guard play. Let's just look at the numbers. The three CPA guards Miller, Anderson and Reeves went for over 200 threes last season. All three are returning starters. It is true that Z and everyone else must stay out of foul trouble. That is the danger zone for CPA although they came through it with a win over Livingston Academy on Saturday night. Oh and by the way. CPA beat Harpeth by 30 this summer. Again it's those silly little numbers that we go by. Giltner is good and will be tough. Should be a good game.
  15. I think it's safe to say that this game was not the "norm". I really hate to say it but both teams have legitimate gripes. The refs totatlly blew it and I hope we never see them at another event. Old school attitude and whistle crazy. It took the game out of the boys hands which is a pathetic way to play a high school basketball game. I can't imagine that is how you're taught to call a game.
