MTSCA College Exposure Camp 2007 All players that signed up online will be participating in the Exposure Camp. We had 62 girls signup online. We are taking all 62. There will not be a tryout this Saturday as originally planned. Players should report to MTSU Softball Field on June 12th, at 7:30 a.m. Registration will be from 7:30 - 8:30. Camp will begin promptly at 9:00. Registration fee is $50, payable on the morning of June 12th. Morning will consist of pro type combine. Afternoon and evening session will be games. Had an injury. She is back now. She had an infection in middle finger that spread to hand. Spent a few days in hospital with IV's going. She will be available to play in district tourn.

This is true. For the last two years the district 7AAA coaches have voted that the regular season winner gets an automatic berth to regionals. The tournament champion goes as the 1 seed and the tournament runner up or regular season champion if not tournament winner goes as the 2 seed. If there are any ties in the regular season for first place team, then the two seeds for the region will come from the tournament. This makes the regular season more meaning full than just getting to play the 8 seed in the first round of district tourn. if you are the winner of regular season. This is also done in several baseball districts in middle Tennessee.

i will give rod credit he is a GREAT wide receiver but the first time we (RIVERDALE) played them i wasn't to impressed. It might have been cuz i am partial to R'dale, but i think that rod will be in the top in wide receivers and i think that sunny could have the chance possibly to be up there as a QB but i am still gona stick with Spur as the most recruited player in tn is Alabama comin to yalls practice any time soon cuz they r comin out i wana say thursday and i know for a fact that VAndy was out there today but the one place i am supprised hasnt been out there was MTSU.

i believe that spurlock from Riverdale will be the most highly recruited player in this area. Now in the southeast thats prob pushing it for either one

riverdaleman, In softball, when facing good pitching, the score is going to be so low that you are always playing for one run. You sacrifice at all cost to get the runner in scoring position. You also have to look at the makeup of your team. What hitter is up, are they a good bunter, who is the next batter, how has this and the next batter done against this particular pitcher. I've always been a proponent of getting the runner in scoring position at all cost. Last night there was an opportunity with runners on first and second with no outs that Riverdale probably should have bunted to get both runners in scoring position. They had there number three hitter up who has been on a tear of late. Did not bunt, hitter popped up in the infield. In hind site should you have bunted a good hitter? It's all in percentages and gut feeling in the situations. The key is that the good games are so low scoring. You hope that by putting pressure on the defense that it will break and comitt a throwing error. Fastpitch softball in my humble opinion is about great pitching, great defense and timely hitting. Key to being successful on offense is the short game and speed. Went on way too long here. Hope this helps.

I read where Kelsey Woodruff has 8 and Jessica Whitens has 6. Both are from Riverdale. I'm betting Blevins from Soddy may have the most.

Exactly the point softballscout. All nondistrict games are scheduled for a reason, to get better for post season. The point in the first post on this subject was that a reason for the cancellation was not given to anyone. There are reasons that are legit when things happen, but at least out of common courtesy to both teams the coach that cancels should let the reason be known. I'm sure Mt. Juliet is not running scared or anything because they have an excellent team. This would just have been a good matchup between two very good pitchers and two very good teams getting both programs ready for post season. Too bad it is not going to happen!

Riverdale and Mt. Juliet were scheduled to play a game this Saturday at Riverdale. I was told last night that the game had been cancelled by Mt. Juliet on Tuesday. I was looking forward to this excellent matchup of two good teams. Anyone know why the game was cancelled? It is good for the sport when two excellent out of district teams play late in the season. Guess I'll just have to look forward to Riverdale vs. Beech on Monday!

The 2007 MTSCA College Exposure Camp is now open to rising juniors and seniors. (Graduating classes of 2008 and 2009) You must register online at the MTSCA.org website before May 13th. The new rules dealing with the sports calendar were talked about in rules meetings across the state. Every coach had an opportunity to contact their respective legislative council member. I know for a fact in middle Tenn. the council members were contacted by softball coaches. The council member that represents my area, Rick Martin, voted the way his coaches in the area wanted. There were other council members that voted the way that Ronnie Carter and his crew wanted the vote to go. The state association continues to put out their propaganda that they are for the betterment of the athlete and coaches. I do not see that as the case. The MTSCA did a pole of members and the majority wanted the sports calendar to stay the same. I am also sick of people saying why do we let this go on. If you appeal anything with TSSAA it is a joke. Mr. Carter can rule on any situation that he wants and there is nothing a school or individual can do about it. Each school signs a form stating that they will abide by all rules set forth by the legislative council and Mr. Carter. This is a catch all phrase. Until there is another option other than TSSAA for schools to play, TSSAA will continue to do whatever they want and there is nothing any school can do about it. I ready to see a TSSAA financial report and see what our director makes and for how long he is going to stay in his post. In my opinion he must be like a supreme court justice and have his appointment for life.

MTSCA is hosting a College Exposure Camp at MTSU on June 12th. This event is for rising seniors. (2008 graduates) There will be 60 campers chosen for three teams by a tryout on May 19th. There will be 20 players placed on three teams. (Dist. 7/8, Dist. 9/10, Dist. 11/12/Div.II) You must sign up for the tryouts on line. Go to www.mtsca.org Registration must be done on line. Riverdale will be having Pitch in @the Gate on the following dates: 4/23 vs. Oakland 4/24 vs. Lebanon 4/27 vs. Dickson County (Players will wear green ribbons and laces, Mom's will wear green visors.) Hope this spreads like wildfire across the state! Everyone spread the word! Hope the state turns lime green next week!

Remember that you are dealing with high school age players now. If you are playing at a high school field designed for older age play, there is no need for fencing or netting. These players should be tuned in and focused on the game. Now if you are at a public park facility designed for varied play, there should be protection in fencing or netting. In middle Tenn. most on school fields have open dugouts. My personal opinion is that it helps your younger kids stay in the game because they have to pay attention to the ball. We also do not allow anyone except the pitcher and catcher to sit down during the game. This helps with people's focus on the game.

National Federation Rule 4-2 article 2 If a game ends because of weather conditions, or darkness intereferes with play so that the game is called by the umpire, it is a regulation game provided: a. five full innings have been played; or if the home team has scored an equal or greater number of runs in four or four and a fraction turns at bat than the visiting team has scored in five turns. article 3 A state association may adopt game-ending procedures that determine how games are ended, including suspended games. However, if a state association does not have established game-ending procedures, by mutual agreement of the opposing coaches and the plate umpire, any remaining play may be shortened at any time or the game terminated. article 4 If a game is called before completion of the number of innings and conditions specified in 4-2-2, the umpire shall declare the contest "no game", unless play is terminated by 4-2-3. Looks like here you start the game over, "no contest"

My fault Wilson, I did not read the post very well. The state championship reference was to Jessica Whitens. She was a member of the Riverdale Girls Basketball team that won state this year.

Who said anything about state? This seems to be the common response for Riverdale haters. Believe me when I say that everyone in the Riverdale Softball program knows that they have not won a state championship. Also believe me when I say that a state championship is their goal and they know this. They work hard everyday to try and have an opportunity to compete for a championship.

Bre Thomas from Riverdale hit a grand slam vs. Warren County on 4/10/07. It was a rocket!

Games scheduled for today at Siegel High School will be played at the scheduled time at Blackman High School. Games begin at 4:00 p.m. Siegel's field is too wet to play on today, but will be ready for Friday games. Sorry for the inconvience.
