  5. If finances are not the issue, what are the issues and how can wrestling supporters help? Surely there must be some ammo that we can help supply Coach Elia with for his battle.
  6. The AD needs to be retired. There too long and clearly has no interest in being effective in his job anymore.
  7. I think that it should be a requirement that the leaders our educational institutions should be required to have a wrestling history. Of course that won't happen but if it did, we could be sure that they had experience in dealing with difficult situations, taking them head on and not running away. So often we hear that "we had to make the difficult decision"...... bull----. They take the easy route because they are not qualified or at least motivated to do the right thing and make an effort to solve the problems. From my own experience, many of them are the result of the Peter Principle... promoted to a level beyond their abilities. What has happened at CN is a travesty. A travesty of leadership (not coaching)....resulting in a travesty to the kids and East Tennessee.
  8. Is there anything going on in the area during the Spring and Summer for freestyle or other?
  9. The duals ran with 6 mats total including D1 and D2.
  10. Where in the charter does it say that the TSSAA is supposed to be a "for profit" entity? According to the handbook: Section 2. The purposes of the corporation shall be as stated in the Charter of Incorporation and, in addition, to stimulate and regulate interscholastic athletic competition among the member schools in accordance with the standards established by those schools in the TSSAA Bylaws. Section 3. The mission of the TSSAA is to serve its members by providing leadership and coordination for the administration of interscholastic athletics, which will enhance the educational experiences of students. The TSSAA will promote participation and sportsmanship to develop good citizens through interscholastic athletics, which provide equitable opportunities, positive recognition and learning experiences to students while maximizing the achievement of educational goals. Also, in connection with state tournaments: After all expenses in connection with the holding of the state tournaments in... wrestling have been paid, the retention and/or disbursement of any remaining funds shall be determined by the Board of Control.
  11. Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City will hold over 5000, has room on the main floor for 6 mats, has an auxiallary gym which could hold 2 or 3 mats and has other areas available to make things comfortable for warming up, food, etc. I don't think there is a bad seat in the place. Wheelchair access is good and there is more than enough parking. Info on the Hall can be found at http://www.johnsoncitytn.org/index.php?page=home-12 . I speak for none of them but I understand that there is interest on the part of the Chamber of Commerce, The Johnson City Wrestling Club (which handled the Fandetti Brawl for the past 9 years including this year in the Hall) and the group that operates the Hall who I understand is willing to be very flexible.
  12. Glad to hear you agree that "there are so many other sites in which to hold the State Tournament" and that you want to "help promote the sport evenly by making it accessbile to communities across the state and provide a fair solution to the many concerns people have over the same location(s) each year". You are right on the money. Getting a concensus on this is the first thing. Fairness is the first issue. The second is finding adequate locations and the third is how to rotate. There really is no fair location that can be used year after year. Personally I think that having it in the same place two years in a row is not necessary but these are things that can be worked out once people are of the same mind to mix things up. I also don't believe that Chatt. is the first place where the tournaments should be held. The individual is already there this year and they have had their turn several times over. Even some of the Chatt. people are startiing to complain about McKenzie and the scheduling. Both can be held in Chatt. but I don't think it should be more often than once every three years (nor anywhere for that matter) Here is another possible way to do it: Let the tournaments rotate through all eight regions. Let each region determine where in their region the events will be held following guidlines provided by TSSAA. If a region cannot provide an adequate location then they can choose to forfeit. This way they also have NO basis to complain AT ALL about the tournaments. Surely the TSSAA, with inputs from coaches, can determine an adequate set of guidelines that can make this happen. I know that others will come up with good ideas on how to do this too. No doubt there will be those that will try to gain advantage from the process but as a group we can do this. All of you coaches have dedicated your lives to developing our children and I doubt there is a better group of people anywhere to do this for all of the right reasons. For a time though, the coaches have to stop looking at this as Bradley kids, or Clarksville kids, or any other subset... we need to think of the "Tennessee" kids and continue to build this sport in the entire state in a manner as fair as possible to all. The TSSAA has to also recognize this and undertake a sincere effort to work with the regions accordingly. Just for the record, I am not a coach. I am a parent that will not have a horse in this race after next year, but this is a sport that I have learned to recognize as something great for our children and I would like to see it continue to develop and thrive in TN.
  13. Your right! It isn't fair for the traditional trny to be in Chatt. every year and I said that. It should rotate as well. What part of the word "rotation" don't you understand? From what you wrote it sounds like you think Chatt. is in East TN. Maybe you need to look at a map.
  14. No. Numerous sites around the state host dual or individual tournaments with 20 to 30 teams participating every year. It is rediculously unfair to host the tournament in the same location every year for all of the obvious reasons. The tournament should be rotated - West, Middle and East TN. The same goes for the individual. TSSAA will just take the easy way out so long as everyone lets them. We have at least three locations that come to mind in the TriCities area alone with an excellent place being Freedom Hall in JC. But even as an excellent place for the tournament, it shouldn't be held there every year either. West TN - identify the locations you have that can help to host these tournaments! There must be a number of places in Memphis, Jackson... That having been said, the Clarksville site is overcrowded and hot. The teams when not wrestling have nowhere decent to relax, that is of course except for the Clarksville team which doesn't even have to warm up on the mats with everyone else. They come marching in just before the start of their matches from their own facilities. Real fair!
  15. Bradley DB Independence Soddy Clarksville Cleveland Blackman Science Hill Bradley Independence Cleveland Science Hill Bradley over Independence Cleveland over SH 1st: Bradley 2nd: Cleveland (though I really think 2 and 3 should be reversed) 3rd: Independence 4th: Science Hill
  16. Hopefully the school will be taking a look at disciplinary actions with the coach. If they do not, then they are reinforcing to the kids that this kind of thing is ok... go ahead, cheat if you can find a way... what matters most is getting that win, not gowing up with values and honor, oh no. Surely someone has copied links to this thread to the school officials. Other teams should pay attention to what happens at Hunters Ridge and if nothing is done about it should keep in mind that "they will cheat if they can".
  17. Coach, How do we know about DB? I thought they wrestled S. Doyle tomorrow nt.
  18. Region 1 - SH Region 2 - Halls
  19. Yes. I think it is the only fair way to do it.
  20. The tournaments need to rotate. That is really the only fair solution. East Tennessee - Middle Tennessee - West Tennessee. The site can rotate within each of the three areas too if there are muiltiple locations that can provide the services. I know an effort is underway to get the TriCities area into the mix. Some people in Middle TN need to get to work finding a location or two. How about Jackson in the West -there is an arena there or certainly in Memphis. Travelling to Jackson or Memphis one year in three from East TN isn't that big of a deal more than going to Clarksville.
  21. There are a number of facilities around the state that could host the State Trny without it being held in someone's crowded high school gym. The nice thing about the event at Freedom Hall was that there was much more than enough room in the stands (no hard benches) and lots of room on the floor even with 5 mats. 6 would be no problem. Also with plenty of room on the floor the center of the mat area was not filled with people making it difficult for the spectators in the stands. That facility could handle the State comfortably. There were other concession stands and facilities that weren't used. There was more than enough good food and it was convenient to town. Hats off to the organizers! Here's a photo of the floor.

  23. Congratulations Toppers on a good tournament at Soddy. Finishing 4th, only 1 point out of 3rd, 3 points out of second and ahead of some state ranked teams. With a few people a little healthier...
  24. Yamamoto-san, Now that you have but awakened a sleeping giant, could you post the rest of the information for those of us that would like to attend but are not coaches. Things like date(s), times, location (with address) and if possible who will be there. When do the ladies wrestle? Arrigato!
