  1. Lot's of posts on this, but want to make sure everyone knows this IS an insured event. If you are not participating in other tournaments, and want some good wrestling please join us. No cards required for entry fee. The link for information is: http://www.nashvillecatholicwrestling.com/...es/ncywopen.pdf.
  2. The 2nd annual NCW Open Tourney will be on March 7-8 at Father Ryan in Nashville. It was huge last year with some awesome wrestlers from all areas of the state. The Tots, Midgets and High Schoolers go at it Friday night, and all others on Saturday. For registration info go to NCW Open 2008 or e-mail questions to info@nashvillecatholicwrestling.com
  3. High school coach overheard when his wrestler on bottom wasn't trying hard enough - "You do know you're behind, don't you?"
  4. Gotta jump in on this one. First question DAKEKO is do you really think Ryan is so dominant in wrestling because they recruit? If you are talking about the Catholic boy from Smyrna, we would love to have ALL the local Catholic boys at Ryan. I tell boys from MBA and other schools this all the time. However, if this young man or others want help, they would have to qualify for financial need, which must not have happened in this case as you said his parents chose not to go. One thing I know is the (14) starters on this team are all Catholic, and came from schools like St. Henry, St. Ann, Overbrook and Holy Rosary. Recruiting is not making this team, but excellent coaching in High School, coupled with a strong foundation formed in the NCW Middle School program. (11 of our 14) went through NCW, so if you want to see some future starters at Ryan, go catch an NCW match next year.
  5. With all the "bugs" going around, I'm sure many teams were affected by this. I know Maurizi was ill and Anthony was very sick Thursday night, but both wrestled through it for the team. Anthony's family made the right choice to hydrate him, and I know he was upset not to wrestle Saturday. Both teams can dwell on lost points they would like to have back, but these boys really stuck it out for their team, and I am very proud of them. It was a most exciting finish, and shows every effort and point counts for both sides. Congrats to the history makers Father Ryan and Baylor!
  6. Picked this off the TSSAA website http://www.thssn.net/events.aspx?sport=wrestling
  7. I'd challenge someone who has this tape to post it on YouTube and give us the link. I think the overwhelming majority of posters on Coach T would agree this guy never made any move other than backwards from the beginning. Bottom line is good call by the ref.
  8. Walkenvol, I guess we'll just have to disagree on this one. It was obvious to me from the start this young man wasn't interested in wrestling the FR Hvy. The referee didn't need to wait until the 3rd period. This rule is there for a reason, and it fit here.
  9. I agree to a point, but at the DII State Duals I saw my first heavyweight match that ended in a forfeit because of stalling. It was justified because the loser was running away the entire match, trying to save his team from the pin. Some say it is good coaching, but it sure makes for an ugly match.
  10. Gotta disagree Red1. If you're not moving forward or circling, you are moving backwards. We've all seen matches where one wrestler never makes a move toward his opponent. The wrestler that is afraid to take a shot, and continues to backpeddle should be penalized.
  11. David Anderson (who moved to Nashville from the Green Irish and joined the Purple Irish a couple of years ago) has been accepted to all three of the Military Schools. David is an occasional starter, hard worker, and a great kid. I'm extremely proud of him, and all these young men.
  12. Call Coach Frank Simpson at his school tomorrow. With all his boys there, he surely has some ideas.
  13. Sounds like BCB is taking his own advice and stirring the pot a bit before the duals. If Ryan does this badly against the red machine, the score might be worse than the Baylor/McCallie match. Think it will be a little closer than this, but no question every Irish wrestler must wrestle hard to the end to compete with these guys.
  14. Patrick attended the Father Ryan / MBA match last night, and there was a touching prayer noting his deployment. He was then introduced and received a standing ovation. Please keep Patrick and all the other young men and women in our armed forces in your prayers.
  15. Don't know but both were close. No MD's
  16. Some good matches, but Ryan had this one from the start. Franklin wins with Ortiz over Bateman, Konz over Marchetti, and Heacock over Brown.
  17. Ortiz, Konz and Heacock won for Franklin
  18. They are posted on the FR website under the Ryan Invitational..... http://www.fatherryan.org/sports/index.htm
  19. Is Marchetti also going to be at 145? Looks to be a big accomplishment to place in this weight class at the Ryan Invitational.
  20. Cash is strong, but I think Konz wins this one
  21. Brentwood website says score was 40-24 Ryan
  22. Two of the top teams in this tourney go at it before the FR Invitational. Brentwood and Ryan have a match on Wednesday January 2, and it should offer some good wrestling. I pick these two to do well in this tourney, along with Franklin and BA. Sounds like CBHS got a better offer and who can blame them?
  23. Curious if the football players were back for MBA, and how this ended up?
  24. I think it's great some of these "JV" wrestlers got a chance last night. This is no positioning or dodging of the other; just some smart coaches on both sides giving as many wrestlers as possible an opportunity. Win or lose, a wrestler that gets a chance to get on that mat will get a taste and will continue to come back. They've got some very good wrestlers now, but give Blackman a couple of years and they will be VERY tough.
  25. For those who think Ryan is overrated because of this score, time will tell. I personally think their coach has done them a huge favor. He has scheduled a powerhouse team early (in Mater Dei), and I'll bet the boys at Ryan are humbled, and will be working harder this year for him. Let the TN wrestling begin, but there's no shame in 2nd at this one.
