  1. First off, i dont have a dog in this fight but i guess i have to stoop to the level of buffalofan on this subject. Good grief, grow up, how old r u?? Recruiting means that the coach or school got in touch with a player to convince them to come to their school. This did not happen with leonard. She went on her own to play at a better program with a better coach. This happens all the time with motivated players. I dated a girl named Lisa Poe years ago. She is from Morgan County but went to play at clarkrange(neighboring county) for the same reason leonard did. She had a great career at crange and scholarship to tenn tech. Radikah dishman(not certain about spelling but its not the same dishman spelling as other crange of the past) she was from cumberland county, played on a state tourn team at crange. This is just off top of my head. I respect crange's program and Coach Rogers but they have had some help just like jackson county. Shelbyville- tiffany woosley - played at ut, Abby Ramsey -played at vanderbilt. these girls transfered to better themselves and guess what , it worked. Red Boiling Springs- Shannon Sleeper from smith county, in my opinion their best all around player. This is life, deal with it, get off the ridge more often. Im not from jackson county either , im from Red Boiling Springs. Ease up people, its a game about kids giving themselves better opportunities. Be proud of them and enjoy the great ballgames.
  2. ive watched alot of girls basketball over the years. my mom played at pickett county and i remember those great teams with doe garrett and perry huckaby. i loved watching the great clarkrange teams with shawn monday, the rickman teams with missy hammock(spelling on some of these may not be correct). i still watch alot of games and watching laken leonard from jackson county reminds me of all these great players. she can take over a game as these girls did. she plays post and guard and anywhere else on the floor. her 3 point shooting is very impressive as well as her ability to take the ball to the hole. she is a team player, very unselfish. i dont know her stats but im sure she leads in most, including steals. my understanding is that she is a straight A student as well. this is all very impressive from such a very young lady. and no im not from jackson county, im actually from red boiling springs and i hate that we lost her but that doesnt change the fact that she is a great player and an ideal selection for class a miss basketball.
  3. just watching all the comments, some good, some bad, some of truth and some fiction. im born and bred in rbs. i played ball at rbs. i have followed rbs ball my entire life and the upper cumberland. the leonard family is a great, humble, hard working family that has raised all their kids to be respectful and to give 100 % to whatever they are doing. laken is a work horse, during season and off season. it is true , im embarrassed to say that she has not been treated fairly since 8th grade by some parents and coach white. yes , he did bring her up as an 8th grader, but come on, he had no choice, she could have played as a 7th grader. coach white, bless his heart, has never been able to bring players together or parents. he has had some great teams, great players but has never won a gold ball in 32 years. he has been to the state tourn 2 times in 32 years, one being laken's 8th grade year, where she led them in scoring and rebounding. her mother was a very good player on a great team that started out 18-0 but when tournament time came around, went home quickly thanks to great pickett county and clarkrange teams. jim brown, i played against, has (not certain) but been coaching about 14 years, he has 4 gold balls and 7 trips to state tourn. this is why this young lady decided to go to jc. she is a winner and wants to play for a winner. ill tell you how larry white works and this is not new, ive seen it my entire life. i do feel bad for him but this is an example of his program. this young lady was picked as a miss basketball finalist but has never won an mvp award on her team. yes, this is true, she led the team in scoring and rebounding as an 8th grader and was not mvp, he gave it to a senior to keep the parents from flipping out. she led the team in scoring and rebounding and a freshman and was co mvp again with a senior for the same reason. also, this is not a joke, he gave co leading scorers and co leading rebounders, even though she led easily, for the same reason. im telling you people this so you can have a better understanding of coach white's mentality. what makes this young lady so great as a player and a person, she never complained once because awards arent important to her. she loves basketball and wants to play basketball in college. she wants to play at a winning program with a winning coach. im sure if the family had lived close to shelbyville , they would have moved to shelbyvlle but just so happens they live 20 miles down the road from jc, so thats where they decided to go. im sure it has not been easy on this family to move from the home they built and the town that both parents grew up in and played for. no press conference was ever called by the parents im sure they were in schock when the papers started calling them. look whos moaning the most and the loudest. this is how the papers got involved. rbs will be fine, they have good players and will do as well as they always have under coach white's direction. players transfer all the time for many different reasons and this is no different. i wish laken much success at jc and my lady dogs a great season as well.
  4. a few years ago, the little town of clarkrange, who always has good teams was in top 25 nationally, impressive, tiny town
  5. sorry, i said that wrong, you are correct, i was replying to sam jones comment, which was down playing this girls accomplishment, i meant to say that who cares about using her 8th grade stats, she has scored well over(now) 1000 points and is a freshman in high school. i agree with you completely about miss basketball also.
  6. laken leonard from red boiling springs, shes awesome. congrats to laken and the other great players
  7. who cares? it doesnt matter how she did, she has scored over 1000 points as a freshman in high school. WOW, UNBELIEVABLE!! GREAT job. she is a tremendous athlete in all areas of the game, offense, defense and rebounding. thats why she should be a candidate for CLASS A MISS BASKETBALL.
  8. abby andrews is a great player, but you gotta mention laken leonard from red boiling springs, she can do it all .
  9. did dyer even play? 3rd or 4th best team in the district from the north
  10. sorry, gentry plays for rbs, she will be out against gordonsville
  11. heard gentry will be out against rbs tonight with shoulder injury
  12. im new to this site but what a great site. ive watched girls basketball in middle tennessee for many years and laken leonard is one of the best ive seen. i went to the clarkrange/rbs game and leonard scored her 1000 point at that game, unbelievable and just a freshman. she had 23 that night with 3 girls on her every time she touched the ball. she can do it all, score, rebound, steal, block and she handled the ball alot against clarkrange's smothering defense. she has to be mentioned for class a miss basketball. she is the real deal, congrats to laken.
