  1. Overton in Nashville is hosting a pre-season play day. It is on March 1. Interested teams should call Coach Sohrabi at Overton (333-5135).
  2. Word on the street is that White House should be pretty good this year. No word on Station Camp or Portland. M. Hyde should be better but the rest of the field is usually pretty weak.
  3. Watch out for MLK in Div A/AA (Middle Tenn.). They were hit by injuries last year. Also, nearly every key player is back. They will be pretty good.
  4. I guess its what part of the name of "High School Soccer" that you focus on. If you focus on "Soccer" then I believe that you are likely to agree with many on here who are opposed to the change. I can guarantee you that the Principals and TSSAA officials focus on the "High School" part of the term. Thus, when they get reports that show Soccer ejections off of the charts they start asking questions. I think Steve Scarb makes some great points as does Bruinsoccer for there should probably be more ejections in other sports. I still ask - why are there so fewer red cards in girls soccer?? Its the same people that officiate the girls games. Often its the same coaches. I would be in favor of a report that listed what is getting people red-cards and the breakdown by team. This might give some explanations as to why the TSSAA did this.
  5. I think this was bound to happen. Sadly, 90-95% of the good people will always have to suffer for the 5% of the bad people who act poorly, when their teammate is out 2 games and or punished unfairly. If some temas/ players/ coaches don't clean up thier act then expect the soft red to lead to suspensions in the future. It could be that the TSSAA doesn't know soccer or it could be that they know that if they don't take stronger actions they will end up with worse problems. As to other sports, many of the same actions that get red cards in soccer will get one ejected in other sports. By the way how many red cards are awarded in girls soccer each year?? I would bet the ratio of red cards in boys soccer is 20 to 1 compared to girls. Why? Many of the same people coach and officiate girls soccer and boys. The rules are the same. But in girls soccer you rarely hear the players use obscene language, throw punches or threaten the officials.
  6. While the Private schools have won the A-AA championship in most years, this is no reason to shut down A-AA soccer nor to attack it. Many A-AA public schools have made trips to the state tournament and should not have to compete with schools nearly double or triple in size.
  7. FRA should have David VanEyess on the A-AA team. He shouldn't be punished for having his team get upset in the first round. Hume Fogg, CPA should have a few players on as well. CAK obviously was the best squad at A-AA and about 4 or 5 guys should represent them.
  8. These posts should be removed. The first post takes cheap shots at the Hume-Fogg coaches and all but 7 players and is inaccurate in many of its "points". Now the result is ugly words and insults being passed back and forth by players of various teams. Have some class, gentleman. This is no way to represent TN soccer.
  9. Honestly. while it is far too early to predict and the championship game is just ended, odds are that we will continue to see domination from the Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga districts. As to who will win those districts I know not. But I would guess that CAtholic, ND, CCS, CSAS, CAK will remain at the top in those districts. District 9 A-AA (Nashville) will be a great race. The top teams CPA, FRA, Ezell, HF, DL lost a great number of good players. It will be a great battle. If MLK who brings everyone back can get it together they might be at the top as well. As to West Tenn, Region 1, Region 4 and region 6 - I have no clue!!!
  10. Who is this 'We" that has never heard of CCS, Notre Dame, McGavock, Station Camp, CPA. - these are some of the teams that HF and CAK have beaten this year.
  11. Attacking A-AA is ridiculous. These schools do not have the manpower of AAA yet often A-AA has been victorious against the AAA schools. FRA and CPA have enrollments of about 500, yet they have tied and/ or defeated schools with 3 times the number of boys. I am sure that if Hume Fogg and CAK had an additional 500 boys to find athletes/ players in their school that they would be even stronger teams. Looking at HF's results they were undefeated against AAA. Their only blemish was a tie against Wilson Central who made the AAA regions. In fact I would say that A-AA often overachieves against AAA when you consider that many of the schools are significantly smaller than their AAA bretheren.
  12. A great game. A nice gesture to meet up before the match. A question about that pre-game gathering. Is this a common occurance for CAK and CPA to have fellowship with their opponents? I am sure some of their District/ Regional opponents are wondering - why not us?? Would CPA consider DCA, MLK, ezell their Brothers???
  13. I am guessing that they will be charging a steep fee to park a car as well. Is the TSSAA that broke??
  14. What??? This goes against so much of what makes High School Athletics great. every team when it begins the season has a chance to make a run for the championship. We have non-conference games that allow teams to play 'tougher' or 'easier' opponents. The idea is so absurd I can't believe that I am responding.
  15. What was the reason Madison lost? Sounds like you dominated the midfield. Was you goalie weak? Did the forwards have an off night?
  16. The system works well. Thank goodness the TSSAA does not revolve everything around Farragut- Bearden and CAK- Catholic. As while the system doesn't make everyone happy the system is designed for what is everyone's interest. In Middle Tennessee the districts are not created equally. The districts will not be re-designed to even teams out because then the rivalries will disappear. FRA- CPA need to be in the same district. If FRA's schedule was Cascade, White House, Cheatham County and Greenbrier their season would be much less enjoyable. (Oh by the way their gate would stink and they would be hurting for money- but the TSSAA only needs to worry about money according to some on here). Because they unequal it is unfair to send a team to state/ substate from a crappy district/ region when other districts have 2 or 3 dominant teams. Also, the suggestion to get rid of the bottom seeds from the playoffs is never going to happen nor should it. In District 9 A-AA- the 8 seed was Goodpasture and the 1 seed was CPA. In the regular season they tied. Likewise, the 7 seed was MLK and the 2 seed was HF, in the regular season they tied as well. By the logic of the bored East Tennesseans these district matches which were great games wouldn't have happened. This district has several good teams, the margin in the standings is very close from #7 to #4 or 5. By some of the earlier posts logic some decent teams wouldnt' have a shot at the playoffs (which is guaranteed in all sports but football). The funny thing about District 9 A-AA is that nearly all of the top 7 teams would dominate if they were located in the other districts/ regions in Middle Tennessee. The system is designed to allow districts with 2 great teams a chance to make the state. The system the complainers are recommending woukld mean that CAK and CPA would not be at State. However, Giles County and Elizabethton would be. If you think that is fairer to potentially keep the best teams from state than people being "BORED" seeing some games then I guess we will have to disagree. Also, CPA- HF played 3 times. In 2 matches both teams knew they would be moving on. Oddly, the crowds got larger each game and none of their matches could be considered tame or dull.
  17. The question is - Does CAK and Knox. Catholic both deserve to go to the state? I say yes. If you agree then the system is excellent. We can go back to the loser of the Region get eliminated but then one excellent team like CAK or Knox. Catholic won't go to state. Piegon Forge or Elizabethtown would be at state. Likewise CPA would not be at the state tournament, Giles County would. If you think that that is a fairer/ better method then by all means lets tweak the system. I think the system is fine.
  18. I don't understand. If a district has two awesome teams then the current playoff system allows for both to advance to the state. It wouldn't matter if one is public and the other private.
  19. Complaints on the playoff system in Tennessee are completely wrong. It is obvious that all distircts in tennessee are not equal. Because of this a few districts have a disproportionate number of great teams. Why should good teams be penalized for being in a tough district while other teams get an easier ride to state?? If the two best teams in the state are in the same district they should both have a chance to make it to the state finals.
  20. Sorry, the luckiest teams in Tennessee will be the A-AA teams that get matched up in the first round with the West Tennessee teams.
  21. Wow, these posts about Wilson Central amaze me. I didn't realize that there was bad blood between their keeper and others. I will say this. I thought Wilson Central was a weak team and the only reason they didn't get lose more games was their keeper. He saved them against Hume Fogg. The opposition barely scored on Wilson Central this year. How many goals did Wilson score this year?? The fact that thier offense could only put 3 goals in versus Friendship Christian shows me that they didn't get to the Regions based on their field players. Then again their keeper could be a jerk- I wouldn't know.
  22. WOW. I thought CPA would roll them!!!
