  1. Kole Bishop - 145 - Sullivan East Even though he was the true 3rd (Pavlov would have finished him off) he still was impressive.
  2. You do know that the coaches and wrestlers can bring in food at the bottom door, when they enter don't you? They can even bring it in their bags when come. They can even buy hospitality tickets for like 15 dollars a day (that is all day). That is what my wrestlers did last year.
  3. did you not notice that I said deep in the playoffs! But I just checked on the tssaa website and realized that they have been to the playoffs since 1974 and only missed 10 times along the way (and the past thirteen years been past the first round 9 years. WOW!) I guess SH fans wanted to catch that record this year - sorry guys when need a few more years! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  4. I take the Hill 24 - 21 last minute (Turn the table on ole mother luck SMITH)!
  5. I see people on here dawging the 7 on 7 stuff that took place this summer - but Sullivan East went and they are going to the playoffs for the third time in school history. Did TN High go? they are like 8 - 1 only loss was to DB. South went and they have drilled everyone! It is not the 7-on7! It is not the coaching! These coaches have done the same things over and over (some get good results and some get bad results!) People Dawg Coach Smith! His record is going to be the same or close to Bowles 2nd year (same if they beat DB) Same final regional standing. Bowles finished 3rd once and 4th twice and 6th once. SS has lost the last 4 or 5 games in the final minutes of the 4th quarter many times due to player mistakes come on give the coaches a break for crying out loud! LOL!
  6. You have to realize that the Slot Offense would kill in upper east tennessee and probably will next year! He's played in front of larger crowds deep in the playoffs (D-B would not know anything about that!) I do know a little about beating that Tribe Booty!!!! Yeah Baby! I think his quotes were taken out of context especially by the BIG FRITZ!
  7. What did he say that makes eveyone hate him so? I live in this city and did not know till late July early August that there was a new coach! I find it hard to find things online that quote him in more than one sentence here and one there! What are you all are gauging/judging this guy based on? I want to read it or see it! Smith has just as much chance leading SH to the promised land as any coach in the schools history! Just as much as GC too! Give the man a break! When he gets the team together hopefully it will be a combination of the community getting behind him, the players lining up, and coaches being able to coach and not worry about the bank account of the DADDYS on the team!
  8. I take Ralph! He will win by a TD after being up by 21 because he will call the dogs off in the 3rd quarter!
  9. DI A or AA athletes are a totally different caliber! You can't just be the best on the toppers, or the best in the Tri, the best in Upper East TN, East Tennessee, or even Tennessee for that matter. Do not get me wrong! I love the TOPPERS and am usually optimistic when it comes to the boys but reality is reality! Usually when you think of kids that have the ability to go D1 you think of kids that can control a game one side of the ball or the other. If not then you are saying the kids they have played are all D1 material (you know what I amsaying?) If the kids you listed were D1 material they would be able to turn a ball game around! Hill at slot with a slot reverse or counter or even yards ofter the catch OR now with QB anything!, SD at TB with anything! Joslin staying on blocks so SD can break it or again yards after the catch. Fields killing kids and making it to the second level on blocks! Trent shutting down an offenses (everything) that is how he should be daring teams to do anything especially from tackle to tackle and 10 yards back (it should be on lock), creating turnovers and stuff. Hamilton just punishing LBs and then making QBs cry. These boys do have size and maybe that is why you think they should make it. I just think that (well I know that) a kid that goes D1 can win a game - no matter what the people around him are doing. He reaches down deep and does not stop until the last whistle (even if he is going both ways!) He will not be stopped! In the heat of the battle he does not make mistakes especially if he is a 1 way-er. I know there are times when you make mistakes. Qualities of studs: QBs rally a team and know how to read a D, WRs make catches and then get yards after, RBs carry the ball and keep their feet moving, OL put people on their backs (pancake is what they call it), MLBs go to war to punish people and take their will to fight away, and DL punishes the QB. Fields can go anywhere with his size but how is his work ethic? He will probably have a better chance getting in the line up early at D2. (I was talking about skill players) Linemen are a totally different breed of cat, He will have to go to a combine and show the scouts something - he is, however, on the lighter side of things. SD will be competing with thousands of 1000+ rushers that are 5'11'' and taller; run faster than 4.8s and have 0 fumbles on the season (now realistically - you tell me his chances) He would probably be better off getting a track scholarship and walking on the FB team. Trent will probably get good D2 money and play special teams 2 years and get in the line up then get good pt the last two years (If he red-shirts he will play STs for 1 year and then may get in the lineup) I really have not seen Joslin's speed but his size will get him in a good D2, but who knows. Everyone I have ever spoken to says he's the best of the Joslins but I have not seen it. Corey Hamilton will probably be about the same. Get some D2 money maybe even have to walk on his 1st year. I personally would LOVE to see them all play college ball (1. because of the experience and 2. it helps pay for the education). I would LOVE to watch them on the ole' tele and say hey those boys are from my town! I also think it is going to take more people that have been on that level helping these local boys develop into the players they can be. This may have been a lot of BABEL but I think there was some good stuff mixed in. LOL!
  10. Yes it is all three! The order is Parents, players, then coach. It starts with the parents, they create the players that coaches eventually inherit. Coaches (especially High School Coaches) can not be held 100% responsible for kids they inherit when they are 14 or 15 years old. They have developed habits (bad or good) they have their attitudes set work ethic and so on. If they met at the waffle house the Coaches would be ready to eat, the parents would be late since they got the memo late, the kids would end up dropping the ball in the end! LOL!
  11. Okay it is either JC or SH. Maybe even SHHS, but never SC?
  12. First of all does everyone really think that there are more than 4 maybe 5 good players on this Topper team? I mean really! Topvol I am not sucking up but Tomas is the only one that with a year at a prep school (look into it) or 2 at Juco (preferrably the 1st) would do anything including special teams on a D1 AA or A team. I am not being stupid, pessimistic or the devils advocate! He does have the wheels and the arm - but he should play QB for a veer, wing T, or wishbone offense. He was in the best position for the slot attack offense, which usually allows 4 or 5 - 1,000+ rushers/ receivers. Hill top fan i do not want to be disrespectful; man I have been involved in programs where the coaches were the best in the world and still had problems (because you usually have 10 - 15 players that are hearing a totally different story at home! In addition to the mixed messages you have kids that are Lazier than crap and have no work ethic what so ever - even when you tell them what it takes to make to the next level because you have been there they still slack off! I have also seen some horrible coaches have tons of success - just because the parents said no matter what the coach is right! Now I don't know who you are but i know what it takes to be successful and/or make it to the next level and blaming a coach is never it! I am certain (without a shadow of doubt that SS met more adversity than not! He has to combat this attitude of priviledge that SH athletes seem to have, why I do not know - man we have not beaten DB since 1995, we have been beaten by 4A teams over and over!!!!!! That is a measure! Never have I ever blamed a coach on any level or questioned his decisions! If there was ever a question I always put it on myself to work harder! I developed relationships with my brothers (a sense of family can not be coached it must be PARENTED!) You give me one example of a kid that is being worked at home. I talk to many dads and some of them work too much (THAT IS THEIR FAULT) family first always! A coach can not teach discipline, determination, or courage. A kid develops these characteristics by seeing them in action AT HOME! Mister History - the problems with many different attitudes on a team now is that a Coach can't handle it like they did years ago! I remember my freshman year I had a problem and I did not stop running till I puked (that was the requirement!) Can you imagine a coach doing that today? I have two words for you LAW SUIT! It can not be ultimately the coach's fault because he can not exactly handle discipline they way he would like to. I feel like a father if there is one there needs to be saying the same thing the coach is saying and it does not take meeting with him every week! There is always a parent meeting - get the handouts and sell out! Ultimately no matter what I say here, everyone is entitled to there opinion. If the TOPPERS were 7-3 you would be on here 1 praising the Coach or 2 complaining about your kid's PT! I LOVE the TOPPERS!!!!!!!! I also love everyones opinions it lets me see the big picture! If and when I am wrong i will work on it!
  13. Man I would shake things up at the Hill! My way of thinking? I just want parents to stop pointing the finger and MAN-UP! Stop making it easy for your kids to find and accept excuses. When did SS have time to find talent? (This is not a rebuttle but a real question - I don't know when he got the job and when he got here). Your attitude is what I don't understand! You can not put the blame totally on a coach that is why they mess up in the forst place! What happens when things are going great (I guess he should get the blame for that too! But he won't) Yes if you do not have the kids to choose from you make the kid the one you need. But, you have to realize there are 7 other coaches on staff - how many were here before ss? They should be great judges of talent! (You got overbay, ferrell, cody! I think it really comes down to not really having the talent everyone says they have! So you got a team that is rebuilding and having to coach positions and while they are doing that they have to play ball too! Let see how the program does next year! I know they won't have SD and TH on Offense which would be amazing in this offense with everyone on the same level! I think the D is hitting on all cylinders - the O just has to keep the D on the sidline for a few more minutes! Please don't question my integrity! I will always be for the players i just know from experience that there is always more than one side to the story!
  14. You have to get your boys out there early (tackle football as soon as possible) If it is too late then you have to convince them that they will not get hurt if they are hit (telling them they have pads on for chist sakes is usually not effective), usually the stronger a kid is the harder he will hit (because he knows he can control a certain amount of weight). You don't have to get a membership to a gym to get your kid stronger - when/if you watch college football together compete during timeouts and at half time to see who can do the most push-ups or sit-ups (active parenting I talk about it later) Make sure your boy knows how to catch a ball (fingers, not chest or pads!) That means you have to go out and show him. He may not get it right at first so be patient! Make sure he knows the language of football so he does not get left behind (snap not center me the ball, what a blitz is, what double coverage - single coverage- man and man free is, what a 3 man front is, what a front is, man I can go on forever... just stuff that is in a coaching youth football book) The right kids have to be out there! That means that just because I own the biggest so and so company in town does not mean I get to tell my son's coach I am not going to support him and the program unless my boy starts (on here that sounds trivial but it happens and some how they get away with it! - probably because in TN you still have to be Faculty to be FB head coach- Imagine a head coach that receives a salary for coaching and is able to coach all day long - Like Propst: look him up). That includes the kids who are just out there because their dads are forcing them to! We have to stop looking at kids in 8th and 9th grade (the studs) and think they are going to continue to be studs! Kids mature and develop on totally different levels! There are actually some studs on D and O in the 9th grade and 8th grade a standout on the 7th grade team, but the kids going to DB and South will come from 2 MS teams (there is a thread all to itself) and will have had a little more experience. The kids from KPT whether South or DB have always seemed to be GYM rats too! They lift weights and know how! Weights have never really been a priority at the Hill - Look DB just built a 3 or 4 million dollar fieldhouse that is magnificent! We need to stop relying on pure talent and make our kids (your sons) lift weights! Make sure you know what he maxes and keep up with them. If he is not improving find out why; talk to the coach(is he laying out of workouts? is he eating and drinking the wrong stuff?) Call them on the carpet about what they are doing! Make short and long term goals - be realistic! (Man I shoud Charge for this!) This is going to take some active parenting! Once SS knows that he has parents that are proactive, and are on his side - alleviating his stress - he will open up (someone said that the communication was strained) I have to Realize that my kid does not have to start if he is not the best kid for the job. If I take time out with him I can help him become the one for the job! We have to give of our money, time, and resources to help the team get better! Remember the goal is to develop young productive men, not boys that don't know about consequences or hard work. Foster team over individual stats - I am not one of those that say give everyone a trophy, but I do say so what about your trophy when we loose - (does that make sense? does any of this?)
  15. #1 no high school team has "try-outs" #2 in the games that ss made bad mistakes in - I wonder if there were any missed catches. Were there any fumbles? What about turn-overs? Where those SS's fault? I am sure he made some mistakes but was he the only one? Were there chances that someone sould have scored or at least put them in scoring position? #3 did SS bring a brand new staff in? No. He inherited coaches that already knew the kids! #4 Not to be rude, but why does it seem that you don't know much about high school football? #5 Bull in the Ring was outlawed! They use the Oklahoma drill to so call seperate the men from the boys these days. Check #4 #6 7 on 7 is where your skill kids get used to the NEW offense (shemes and routes and things). I refer back to #4 #7 What if little johnny who is scared to hit is all you have to choose from?
