  1. I didn't make the game last night. However, there has to be a little bit of hope coming out of Jonesborough after last night's performance. Most of the games this season have been blow-outs. This week the guys have been in both games. Last night, even in the loss, Zach Garland, a 6-11 soph. post player, put up 35 points. The team is young. I know they played without 3 of their key players (one senior, one soph. and one freshman) due to the Volunteer game. If a few of these kids can develop, Crockett might have a decent record next season and a really good one 2 years down the road. I know a lot can happen in that time but the future is bright at DC. I will try and get the details this weekend if they are not provided on here by then.
  2. David Crockett lost one of there players for the rest of the season today. If you would put her in your prayers. Thanks
  3. After talking with a few folks, I'm hearing that "first punch" was thrown after an elbow was given first. We can debate that all we want. I'm just saying what was said. I'm glad Wallen is a Christian man. We need leaders like him. Your right we could have used him at the game. Maybe he could have said a few prayers for some of those Falcon parents........ /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> not to mention some on the other side too /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  4. That's not a bad idea. I don't Deer Hunt though. I'm not from around here. On a basketball note. I don't know much about IMAC basketball. Does anyone know how Morristown East, Greeneville and Cocke Co. match up with the big 3, SH, DB and TH?
  5. by Ron Bliss TriCitiesSports.com January 23, 2009 JONESBOROUGH -- Volunteer coach Todd Whittemore experienced two firsts Friday night, while his Falcon teams kept David Crockett from another first. Despite having seven players ejected from the game -- a record under Whittemore -- his team won the game, 73-63, because of another first: They hit 41 of 57 free throws. "That's got to be a first in my time,'' said Whittemore. "That's a lot.'' The fact the Falcons made as many as they did kept Crockett (0-10) from winning its first game of the Big 9 season. Emotions spilled over with 36 seconds left in the first half when Crockett's Sam Tarlton and Volunteer's Cameron Trent traded blows. Instinctively, all but two players off the Volunteer bench charged onto the court as fights broke out. Tarlton and Trent were ejected, along with Wade Cole and Joe Ganger for Crockett as well as Volunteer's Trent and six of the eight players who charged off the bench. Two players were allowed to return after Whittemore went back and looked at the film to confirm what he thought -- that two players had stayed put. "It was unfortunate,'' said Whittemore, whose team snapped a four-game losing streak and gave him win No. 201. "It happened right in front of us and I think our kids were trying to defend their teammate. But I knew not everyone had gone onto the court, so I looked at it and told the officials that. They don't look at film, but they got together and let us have two players back. They just chose them at random. It wasn't the same two, but it worked out pretty good for us.'' That left Volunteer -- ahead 37-22 when the fight broke out -- with six players. On the floor at the time were Cody Moore, Ethan Pearcy, Jordan Seals and Aaron Bennett. The players allowed to return were Christian Green and R.J. Williams. The other varsity players face a two-game suspension, which means they can't play Saturday night against Sullivan South at home or next Tuesday at home against Tennessee High. "I have to check with my athletic director (Jim Whalen) to find out exactly what the rule is because it has changed from time to time,'' said Whittemore. "But if we have to go with just the six varsity players for the next game or two, we will. We'll bring up enough junior varsity players to fill out the number of uniforms we have,'' said Whittemore. "The last time we played, we were ahead by a point or two with about 20 seconds left and they hit a last-second shot to beat us. That was an emotional game and this one was too,'' said said Crockett coach Jamie Freeman, saying the emotions carried over. "It's like a rivalry game. Our kids played hard, but give them credit. They made the free throws. We had no choice to foul them to try to get back into the game, but them made them.'' "Fortunately,'' said Whittemore, "we made more than our customary 50 percent.'' Especially Ethan Pearcy. He made 12-of-12 on the night -- including 10 of 10 in the final quarter. He finished with 16 points. Jordan Seals hit 10 of 12 and also had 16 points, while Christian Green made 7 of 10 and finished with nine points. Bennett scored 19 points, while making just 7 of his 13 tries. Cody Moore mad 5 of 8 and had 7 points. Volunteer made just 15 field goals in the game and had just 32 points from the field to go with 41 from the foul line. Volunteer led 39-24 at the half and was still ahead after three quarters,l 48-34. Clint Freeman got the hot hand for Crockett, however, and kept the Pioneers in the game by scoring 21 of his 23 points in the second half. Two Freeman free throws with 48.7 seconds left got Crockett within seven at 68-61, but Volunteer made five of its last six foul shots to seal the deal. "We went on the road and faced adversity,'' said Whittemore. "But we were able to win and I am proud of my kids.''
  6. All I know is that tonight was a lose-lose situation for everyone. Our young people are watching us. There were a number of people who left. I'm sure a number of people were shocked at what happened. The refs. Even if their calling is not what people want it to be, does that mean they deserve to be yelled at in such a demeaning way? If people have such a problem with the refs....get in touch with the TSSAA.
  7. I have no clue why she was not kicked out. Maybe the refs just wanted to get out of there. I do not blame them one bit. I'm not one sided. I do not have a child who has attended or will attend David Crockett. I do not work there. I do not have any family members there. I just go to support the team because I live in the community. I simply go to the games to watch and support. The coach needs to keep his student-athlete's best interest in mind. The way the game was and the way both crowds were acting I do not see where anyone can judge him for getting out of there fast. I wish people would not be so quick to point fingers and take responsibility for their own actions. The AD may have made a mistake. Who hasn't? There was a fight that just about got way out of hand. I'm glad the student-athletes had self control to finish the game. We as a crowd were crazy.
  8. I will defend the Crockett AD and the coach. First off there was a fight. Second, I understand with all the emotions why the coach would head straight to the locker room and prevent a terrible situation from getting worse. The AD had to come over because of some of the adults in the crowd. He only came over after the young lady walked down almost to the floor to yell at the ref. I thought she was going to get on the floor. After he came over with the Washington Co. police she seemed to quiet down. Mr. AD helped escort the Crockett fan out of the gym when he was kicked out. When the man returned, he was again escorted out. There is fair. If anything the bad sportsmanship came from the crowd.....both sides. I refuse to believe that all the blame goes on the refs. Sure it could have been handled better and the calls were sub-par, but use a little self control and realize it is a game.
  9. To clear things up, a fight did not break out amongst the parents. All but 6 players on Volunteer were threw out of the game while Crockett had 3 tossed. The issues started in the girls game. The game got out of control. The Crockett fans were upset due to the discrepancy in the foul column. Both team's fans were yelling at the refs. While I have found this to be the norm at a Crockett Big 9 game, it was up a couple of levels at this game. Once the boys game started things had seemed to calm down. In the 2nd, Volunteer had a double digit lead and Crockett had been called for 5 or 6 more fouls than Volunteer. People were upset. Fans were yelling from both sides. A fan from the Crockett side was tossed for the words he had for the refs. Shortly after Crockett's coach was upset because he felt that the game was not being called fairly. He got a technical. Right after that the fight happened. It was in front of the Volunteer bench, in the paint just under the foul line. Benches cleared, a few fans came out. Cops were out. It was madness. The refs were not sure who to toss. Two Crockett kids were tossed first. Then the Volunteer coach had his video camera taken from upstairs so they could take a look. I'm not sure if the refs looked at it, but after 5 minutes.....which felt like an eternity, all but 6 of the Volunteer kids were tossed and one more of the Crockett kids. The game continued with lots of intensity until halftime. The mood calmed down for the first minute or two of the second half........then fans from both teams began to yell at the refs again. Everyone cheered or yelling things at whatever a ref called. At one point a lady from one side jumped down a few rows and was yelling right in the refs face. The Volunteer coach received a technical in the second half after a stretch of aggressive play. The game finished with Volunteer winning the game. I am in no position to judge anyone. I'm a sinner saved by grace. However, I am ashamed with what happened tonight. It's just a game. I am proud of the kids from both teams that finished out the game. They controlled there emotions and played a physical, aggressive second half. I can not believe the way us adults acted. Especially after the fight. It felt as if we celebrated what was happening. While Volunteer won on the scoreboard. We all lost tonight when it comes to being an example for the next generation.
  10. I'm not sure what type of college offers she has received. With the way she plays, I figure someone around here would want her to become a student-athlete at their college.
  11. I won't disagree with you. I know the IMAC is strong, at least until they start playing the rest of the state, but if you read everything I said, anything can happen. That 5th place team, SH, beat Cocke Co. early this year. I know it was only by one and they were beat soundly the next time but a win is a win. I also know Crockett lost to Mo East early this year. Crockett was missing a few then too. Crockett is having a good year and I will give them their praise. It hasn't happened much in the past.
  12. I wouldn't look past a David Crockett or even a Sullivan Central if they can finish strong and make the regional tourney. Crockett plays hard and seems to be in almost every game. They have one of the best players in East Tennessee in Lauren Murr. She is good for 20 or more every night. I'm not saying they will win if they get there but I will say anything can happen on any given night.
  13. I'm almost sure they did not play in any other tournament than the Volunteer Classic. They have played on the road all year and probably didn't want to travel anywhere else. The Lady Pioneers did not play their first home game until tonight. Tonight was a good game. Both teams played well and I look forward to the rematch. I was disappointed in the way the game was called.
  14. Congratulations to the David Crockett Lady Pioneers on there win at Science Hill tonight.
  15. Crockett lost one of their kids to a knee injury that night too.........
  16. I went to the Crockett DB game last week. In the second half, Crockett had 14 or 15 fouls called on them compared to the 4 called on the Tribe in the second half. One of the 4 was a technical foul because DB had 6 on the court. I'm not saying this effected the outcome but the score was 38-32 DB in the 3rd Qtr. After Crockett made their run, they were called for 6 or so straight fouls which put DB in the bonus...in the 3rd Qtr. DB would have won the game anyways, but all the fouls definitely stopped any momentum Crockett had and they wouldn't have lost by 30.....maybe by 15. Again, I'm not whining or complaining, I just think the officiating was a little unbalanced and that is just the way it is sometimes. On another note, I think quick guards are going to hurt DB in the future. I believe DB has a good team this year, but Crockett's PG got a lot of penetration and had some good-wide open looks...he just couldn't hit any shots...which is often the case for us /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" From a Crockett point of view......They are young. We start two Soph and we only have 2 seniors. One is the big man, Zach Garland. If he stays out of foul trouble this year we might win some games. The other is a shooting/point guard, Sam Tarlton. He has a nice shot and should be a good player in the future. I look to see Crockett finish in the top half of the conference in a year or two.
  17. The second half of the DB vs. DC game was a little one sided eh?
  18. Crockett lost to Boone by 7 this year. Crockett started a number of Soph. this year. They return Gillen at Qb and Sumo in the backfield. The line should have quite a bit more size than in past years as well. For the most part Crockett was competitive all year....at least through halftime anyways. They were tied with MoEast, Boone, and Volunteer at halftime. Down to MoWest by 7 at the half. They were beating Cherokee at the half. I know I know...it is not winning but for a school with only two winning seasons in 30 or so..... it is nice to see them being competitive and on the edge of winning a few. I think Coach Green has them going in the right direction. Anything can happen. It is very feasible for Crockett to beat Boone, Volunteer and Central next year.
  19. The difference in this game is Tee Howell. I like the Canes in this one.
  20. I stand corrected. Crockett is the second to last team to beat Greeneville in conference play. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> I still wouldn't take them lightly. I know the odds are not good for a Crockett win but this year's team is playing hard for Coach Green every game. On another note.....This will probably be the last time Crockett and Greeneville hook up for a while with Crockett moving up to the dreaded Big 8 (i guess they will call it that seeing that the bball conference up here is the Big 9) and with Greeneville moving down to play with Union Co. and the others.
  21. Best of luck to both teams Friday. I know it looks like Crockett doesn't have much of a chance in this game but I will say they have been in every game this year at least until half time. They will also have a few guys back this week from injury. Crockett is the last team to beat Greeneville in conference play. I know Greeneville is a completely different team from 2 years ago but I wouldn't look past Crockett as an automatic W.
  22. From a Crockett point of view /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> East: Tee Howell seems to be the key to success for East. He account someway in the 4 second half touchdowns against Crockett. Volunteer: Crockett shot themselves in the foot 4 times. 3 pics, one in the redzone, one inside the 30, and then the fumbled snap to start the 2nd half while we were driving. I like East in this one.
  23. I respect Volunteer football and the success they had last year and in previous years. I think they have a great coach and very hard playing group of young men. However, I'm not quite sure I agree with some of the predictions. Crockett has played the tough part of their schedule already. Besides Cherokee, who now is 3-3, they have not played a team with a losing record. I know Volunteer has played a tough schedule so far as well but I think Crockett is a different team this year. They are much more physical than last year. I could be proven wrong on Friday but I think this game will at the very least be a close one.
