  1. The thing that will put Wartburg over next year is the introduction of those two super Freshmen posts from their middle school. I saw them play a few times this year and those girls are impressive. As far as their high school team goes they have played 11 kids all season from what I've seen. I had heard that some kids quit due to seeing the handwriting on the wall that next years freshmen class is loaded,! I am ready to say that they will be 1 or 2 next year. From what I've seen they have had a typical re-building year where the coach has to find the kids that are going to stick it out.
  2. Thoughts on 4a What I'm hearing around from different parents is that this is for sure the year for Oakdale. They have every part necessary to win a championship. All region caliber pg yes, shooters yes, post players yes, only real question is about depth, but they do have some good fr. so that may not be an issue. O.S. and Wartburg are down this opens up some chances for others to join the party, but if history tell us anything they won't be out of the picture for long, if even the entire season. I really think that Coalfield or Wartburg will miss the regionals. I can't come up with any senario that doesnt have them meeting in the first round of the district. That will be fun. Oh well enough of me time to see some games!
  3. I know that but that's like 1 to 7a's 800 or whatever. Right now there isn't a program that is on that level in 4a. I was saying I'll be proud to see 2-3 schools elevate to that point. I think that O.S., Coalfield, and Wartburg need one more really good team to step up to give 4a some respect state wide
  4. I just think about how much things have changed from when I was in school. You looked up to your coach and saw them as a role model, and your parents told you things like listen to your coach. Now it seems like all the public does is make hateful comments about coaches. If a coach wins as a result of talent it should be also understood that when they lose it is by in large due to a lack of talent. I'm glad coaches have began standing up and stating their side of things. Hateful people always try to tear down. A couple years ago you would have found me on here being as hateful as anyone, but I've thought about it and I just don't think that a HS coach if they are of good integrity and are solid role models for their kids should be victim of all that. The way I see it now is I want to see 4A be as strong as it can be, because it will help this dist get the respect it deserves. A team from 4a will win the state someday and if it is my alma mater Oakdale or O.S. or Wartburg or Jellico I will be proud. Stability means sooooo much to a program. Lets get after each other on the hardwood and not on here!
  5. Being from Oakdale I don't have any real interest in this but in the spirit of debate I'll continue..... 4 Straight District 4A Championships, 2 Regional Championships, and 4 trips to Boro' What exactly is there to justify? I think CMC is top rate. What exactly would you have to say to her? You want to discuss someone els's child with her. A coach doesn't have the right to discuss someone els's kid with you. I have a daughter and if someone approached the coach about removing my child from the game we would have problems. Let the coach do their job which CMC is doing if you cant handle playing for a competitive top rate program maybe you shouldn't be playing. Most kids would love to be in a program with that kind of success. Super Dave, I never once said that anyone wanted to approach the coach about any kid or even there own kid.I don't care what Coach it is sometimes a parent needs to talk to the coach just as you would talk to your childs teacher.I just hate to see more kids from OS walk away. I must have misunderstood you I thought you said that you wanted CMC to justify why one child was on the court over another. That one is my bad I just think from observation that the best coaches are those who are supported by the admin, and run their programs. CMC is in charge of her program and I like that about her. From what I've seen that is how Hines at Coalfield is also. I agree you do have to show you care for your players. If one is in the hospital a coach should certainly check on them. I just don't know what all there is to talk about with a coach from the game. If I didn't trust a coach I would look for a school that had one I did, not trying to be hateful just saying.

  7. Maybe that is what CMC feels will give her the best chance to win. I just don't understand why people are always bashing coaches in this district. I used to do that but learned a lesson in watching them perform. Hines, Snow, Davis, Christopher are good people to put up with what they do and our district is lucky to have them. The fact is that winning isn't something that everyone gets to do, and it certainly isn't easy. Do you have to be demanding to win at this level? YES! Do you have to make difficult decisions in order to develop a program? YES! Sometimes are kids dissapointed when they don't get to play? YES! but a coach has to make the tough decisions to keep things going. I say enjoy the games and let em coach! Winning seasons come and go, but I'm convinced that 4A has some of the best working with our girls.
  8. heard it was the truth I've got to disagree with you that oakdale and wartburg will be the top two. Wartburg lost 90% of it's scoring from last season. Oakdale returns everyone. This is Oakdale's year. My predictions this early may not mean much but I'll offer them and may change them once scrimmages get here. Early predictions 1. Oakdale 2. Oneida 3. Oliver Springs - best coach in the district and will be fine regardless 4. Coalfield 5. Sunbright 6. Wartburg 7. Jellico My reason for putting wartburg this low is the fact that they have no starters returning lowe has a torn ACL and one of their better soph. had serious ankle surgery, but I do believe they could be one of the best teams heading in to 2011-2012 once they get time to heal. Coalfield still has Jordan so they could be tough again as well.
  9. Pianomaster, I think that 08-09 team would have won 20 also. They sent many 20 win teams home in the touraments including us once they had their starters back. I'm not real sure why Wartburg always bashes their coaches but it makes you people look retarded! I am just glad that We don't have this kind of stuff on the net about our program, really the only two that are constantly on their coaches is Wartburg and Coalfield with a little O.S. sprinkled in there, but I just cant make the point any clearer you wartburg people sound stupid! From an outside point of view you cant handle losing and you cant handle winning!
  10. I have only seen wartburg play oakdale this year, but I can tell you they don't beat Oakdale in the region or district if davis keeps her in the game. #30 I think was a far better player and #32 or 23 whichever is the smaller girl that subs to the post off the bench also. I bet her minutes went down because that awful coach saw that. Quit bashing the coaches in the dist. I just don't think you can fuss about people willing to work with our morgan co kids for less money and all this drama. I didn't like JD because I thought he was a daddy's boy, got kicked out of the gym in middle school, poor loser etc., but from what Im seeing and the proof is in the record JD has brought wartburg to an elite status and we'd trade places with him in a substate or state tourney in a second. Respect in most places is earned & that program admin, kids, and coaches has mine.
  11. Just a random thought. I always laugh when I go to wartburg and see those state bound stickers everywhere, you would think somebody would tell them that there isn't a state tournament in middle school. It's just like making the second round of the region in high school State Bound and at the house is what they should say Oakdale goes to the East Tn tournament all the time and I don't see state bound on every car in the town. What a bunch of ego up that way
  12. I believe Coalfield is in a great position to win it all. If JC is the best team then Coal could be the new Fav with an upset. Unlikely but in order to be the best you've got to beat the best. As an Oakdale fan I'm pulling for the Queen Bees to pull it off! I was pulling for both teams but I've got one word to sum up what I saw from many on the WB team this year spoiled! Without those seniors their run is probably over. Congrats to those girls at the burg who graduated Lauren Bunch and Crystal Fountain carried that team about as far as a 1-2 combo can. IMO Davis did his best coaching job with these girls...way less talent then the past 2 Wart teams.
  13. Great year Lady Eagles My season wrap up goes something like this 1. Coalfield and Wartburg ended up being the two best teams as many felt before the season started 2. Oakdale had the biggest upset I can think of in tournament play over the last 4-5 years in tellico 3. Wartburg got back to a sub-state for a third time in a row (always have people you've never heard of stepping up in tournament time) Example Barnett in Region and Kidd in Dist. And HE CAN COACH 4. O.S. got hot at the right time but in the end couldnt beat coalfield and are now at home thanks for the memories, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. And YOU FOULED HER! 5. What the heck happened to Oneida, where are they? BRING BACK WEST 6. Why do the officials stink so bad! They are all awful! All in all it's been a good season Sunbright got a district win, Oneida began rebuilding, Oakdale found a star in Kilby, O.S. proved many wrong at least in 4-A tourney, Wartburg proved to be much more than a one man band, Coalfield got to a sub-state and may win a region (that's a great accomplishment for their dream team), and Jellico...............well they had some nice uniforms! Cant wait until we get to see how the Lady Eagles grow over the summer! Good Luck to Wartburg and Coalfield hope to see both of you in State!
  14. I would contend that the coaching at this level is as good as any other. 4-A has some pretty good ones and is not always a stepping stone for someone. If you look at the communities you have Snow - a life long Oakdale guy, Hines - a lifelong Coalfield person, All the coaches on the girls side are pretty good and are probably where they are not so much as a stepping stone but are where they are because of wanting to build their home communities or the places where they grew up. A coach at the single-A level has more challenges then any other. Talent is often very limited and they must be good at game adjustments. Oak Ridge and Shelby etc. can run a system the single A coach must do whatever it takes to be competitive. At the end of the day I think you find high quality coaches at all levels, and you also find bad ones. When I look at 4-A I feel like there are 5 very good ones Christopher, Snow, West,(if he comes back), Hines, and Davis, I feel like each has a chance to produce a good team each season. To call the coaching in 4-A bad shows how misinformed you are or how simply out of touch.
  15. After watching some games I believe that the district looks like this. 1. Clearly Coalfield Best returning players 2. ??? 3.??? 4.??? 5.Wartburg Lost PG and all State Tourney players except Fountain next time they are able to win big 2011-2012 I'm calling it first you cant win big there every year gotta rebuild! 6.Sunbright Needs to learn how to win...could start tonight with Wartburg 7. Jellico Very bad needs to work to get better for next year Everyone else looks about the same. IMO Oliver Springs is very lucky to be 2-0 in the district and does not look like a very good team they wont be great again for some time. Sunbright is much better and could make the region and they better do it this year with what they will graduate. Oakdale is going to be strong at the end an should challenge for the 2nd spot plus they will keep everyone and should be very strong again next season. Oneida is going to be ok and I'm hearing their coach will be back after Christmas remember young team and will be good once they come together for the next 2 seasons. Wartburg is IMO the wild card they look like they can score and should be a good defensive team come tourney time, but I don't think they have the horses to win big once they get there they could be the odd team out in tournaments simply because of how much they have lost similar to Oliver Springs.
  16. Bballintn sorry to burst your bubble but Oakdale and Oneida are the class of the district!
  17. How are teams looking in Scrimmages? I know Coalfield played Pickett Co dont know how that went Oakdale will play a couple pretty soon I think Who does Wartburg, OS, and Sunbright play in Scrimmage work?
  18. Who do the teams play early in the season? Will any team have an opportunity to be tested or are the teams playing easy schedules to start. I agree with jacketfan for the mostpart but I would like to see my Eagles sneek in the top 4 and return to the region. I will shake things up some in the order though 1. Coalfield 2/3/4 Oliver Springs, Wartburg, Oneida/Oakdale Sunbright Jellico
  19. I agree that Oakdale will be great and maybe the best talent in the district, but when wartburg, os, and coalfield put things in gear they could be better and Oneida has the ability to be dangerous. I will give you the freshman is very good but she is young so curb our expectations just a little. By the time she is a Jr. she will be an awesome player. I still say that the district could end up with Coalfield on top with OS, Wartburg, and Oneida making the region. I think Oakdale is going to be very good next year!
  20. SWC, I am just going to state some stats for you and you may take from that what you want. Since 2005 Wartburg has a record of 1-41 according to coacht.com Since 2005 Oakdale has a record of 4-38 according to coacht.com I think by looking at the records to say wartburg is one of the worst programs would be a fair thing to say.
  21. Oakdale is going to be good this year. They have a great young team and an exciting new freshmen or two. I would look for them to be ahead of O.S., Wartburg, and Oneida. I heard that one of Coalfield's best isn't playing this year. Is that th truth? No predictions other than to say that Oakdale wins 20 if youth learns as quickly as they did last year. How is Oneida looking for the year?
  22. Does anyone know where Coalfield, Wartburg, Oakdale, and Sunbright will be going to camp this summer? I don't know that the region will be all that down. I have heard about Tellico so that should make 3a much better and 4a is a pretty good district so the region could be ok.
  23. Heard that AE missed almost 20 free-throws
  24. Congrats to a deserving team. Proving that how you end the year is more important than how you start!
  25. 1.) Get a coach! One that has a proven record in H.S. 2.) Get the kids to play good defense 3.) Have tougher practices 4.) Get kids to come out and play 5.) Get kids to have a positive attitude about being a player. They only need to beat Sunbright and Oakdale to get to a region so that could be done pretty quick if they do the things needed to build a program. I have always heard that football tries to keep their kids from playing basketball down there. I would think that basketball would help keep them in shape and make them better athletes.
