  1. Well said, you deserve a tasty beverage.
  2. tnvols2010, you are getting into the discussion late. It is unfortunate that over the years so many Grace supporter’s appear to be uninformed and argue with an entitled attitude. Thus, they have turned others against them, both Christian and non-Christian. In reference to the above quote, the TSSAA is a secular organization with a narrow set of rules. It is the job of the coaches and administrators to know these rules. The following are pertinent to the discussion: TSSAA Handbook Tuition and Financial Aid Section 16. If tuition is charged, it must be paid by parent, bona fide guardian or other family member. If a parent, guardian or other family member secures a loan for payment of tuition, it must remain an obligation of the parents, guardian or other family member to repay the principle and interest in full with no exceptions. P. 14 FAQ Q. Who is allowed to pay a student-athlete’s tuition? A. If tuition is charged, it must be paid by a parent, bona fide guardian, or other family member. P.49 Q. A student changes school because of the death of his/her parents or guardians. The change is necessary in order for the student to have a home. Is he/she eligible? A. Such cases should be submitted to the Executive Director who will make a decision on the facts submitted. P.45 In there rush to succeed, Grace is building teams without tradition. I understand the rule book....I've read that myself...glad to see the you can read...here's the deal though like I said before...from what I'm told by a very reliable source is that the church DID NOT give a family money so he could go to school a GCA. The money was for a love offering from the church because this family was hard up for money. The family did what they could with the money THEN decided ON THEIR OWN to send the child to GCA. The TSSAA wanted to know where the money came from. The investigation from what I'm told is over....as if there ever was one to begin with. GCA athletics CANNOT track down EVERY payment given to them or to the school. If that's what you want then you are out of your freakin mind!...So to all of you I say, so sorry. Tnvols2010, you make my point well. I said nothing about this kid, I just tried to give you some background and post some of the pertinent rules. I am not anti-Grace. All three of my kids went to Grace, my oldest graduated from there. My statement that “in there rush to succeed, Grace is building teams without tradition,” is true. When good athletes pass through small schools they are celebrated and there accomplishments remembered. They remember who scored the big touchdown years after it happened. Traditions are established on the efforts of those kids who came before. Grace seems to be embarrassed of its past and does not celebrate the years of effort it took to score that first TD. By the way, how many years did Grace have a team before they even scored? Who was Graces first stars? Who scored the first rushing TD, the first passing TD? Come on its only been something like 6 – 7 years. What year did they win there first game? Why did they have three head coaches in 5 years? Look in to these questions and I think you will find why all of these people are so anti-Grace?

  4. Who are the teams coming to Kingsport for the Indian Classic this year?
  5. Good question I had to ask my son who goes to ETSU. It is the Wayne G. Basler Center for Physical Activity (new campus rec. center) and is located west of the Dome.
  6. Who should we call, at this point, to support starting a team at ETSU, AD, Pres, Std. Org. Dir.???
  7. Kilgore was in reg 1 last year, but he moved some where up north and did not wrestle for Morristown West this year. When we wrestled Bradley Central last night the coach bumped him to 215. I do not know the name of the kid he wrestled, however I don't think he was a starter because Craig pined him in the first period. The rest of the wrestlers on the list, except for Miller, are from Chatt and points west. Where we live in East Tn it is about 5 minutes to Va., 1 hour to NC., 2 hours to SC or Knoxville, 3 hours to Charlotte, 3.5 hours to Hunting WV, 4 hours to Chatt, 5+ to Nashville, and it took us over 6 to get Clarksville. We don't wrestle a lot of those teams with the ranked 189s, it just to far to drive. However, that is not to say we do not wrestle good competition. This year we went to individual and dual tournaments in North Car., South Car., and West VA. We host a tournament where 27 teams from 7 states participated. Craig has not lost to a wrestler who was not ranked in another state, with one exception. When we wrestled in the tournament in W VA he lost to a kid from PA who was not ranked. According to the host coach, he had just beat his teammate, who was ranked in PA, in a wrestle off.
  8. Craig Carter, Dobyns Bennett's 189, has a record of 46-5 with 32 pins and has not lost to a wrestler from Tennessee this year. The last time he lost to a Tennessee wrestler was in the second round of the cons. in the state tournament last year.
  9. 189 - Craig Carter of Dobyns Bennett has 32 pins and a record of 46 -5.
  10. DB wrestles South Doyle (Reg two #2) tomorrow night @ DB - the winner goes to the state.
  11. SH, both teams won 7 matches, however SH had more pins than DB.

  13. Who are the "studs" in each weight class in Reg 1?
  14. TriCitiesSports.com December 31, 2008 CLOVER, SC ??“ In his constant quest for diverse competition, Coach Buzzy Mann took his Dobyns-Bennett wrestling team to suburban Charlotte for the Clover Holiday Duals. The tournament featured 12 teams from SC, NC and TN. Each team had 10 matches during the 2 day tournament. ???One of the benefits of competing in out-of-state tournaments is the unknown factor. Our guys don??™t know these guys, so they don??™t come into the tournament with any pre-conceived notions. We just wrestle who we draw,??? Mann explained. ???Overall I thought we had a solid performance from top to bottom under the circumstances. We were missing 2 varsity starters and forfeited one weight class throughout. We were able to mix things up a bit and draw on our depth,??? explained Mann. D-B finished 3rd of 12 teams behind 4A #8 South Pointe (Rock Hill) and 3A #9 Riverside (Greer). 4th place went to 1A #1 Chesterfield (near Myrtle Beach) and 5th place went to 3A #3 Bluffton (Hilton Head). ???We really had strong performances from all of our wrestlers at this tournament, but the following 9 stood out,??? said Mann -- Craig Carter (10-0), Adam Mann (10-0), Austin Mann (9-1), Zack Fleming (9-1), Mark Erwin (7-2), Trent O??™Brien (7-2), Keith Gilliam (7-3), Chris Stout (4-1) and Evan Earles (6-3). Craig Carter and Adam Mann were tournament champions. Carter defeated the state??™s #12 4A wrestler and won an electrifying 3OT decision over #7 4A, respectively. ???Craig had a real standout performance for us. He was focused and consistent. He??™s a senior leader and he??™s doing exactly what I expect of him. I am proud to see his hard work paying off,??? said Mann. Adam Mann won a decision over the #3 2A/1A wrestler in South Carolina. ???Adam hung tough and came away with hard fought victories over quality opponents. He??™s learning to stick it out and find a way to win. This is exactly the kind of experience that will pay huge dividends down the road,??? said Mann. ???Trent O??™Brien and Keith Gilliam had impressive wins over ranked opponents,??? Mann noted. ???They were very consistent and this was probably their best varsity performance to date.??? Another senior leader, Evan Earles, had a standout performance with decisions over two of South Carolina??™s ranked wrestlers. ???Evan continues to impress me with his work ethic. He had an outstanding performance in the Indian Classic last weekend and it carried over this weekend,??? said Mann. D-B travels to Rutherfordton, NC this weekend to compete in the R-S Central Duals.

  19. Just out of curiosity, what criteria are used in the rankings?
  20. BatemanDb let me get this straight: you want adjust the line up of the top defense in the Big East by taking one of the best middle linebackers in the state, the teams leading tackler, and move him to DE. Then bench Carter who according to tricitiessports.com is tied for the lead or is the team leader in sacks, tackles for loss, and QB hurries. The article also said that Carter was the defensive lineman of the week for the SHHS game. My sources tell me that he has won that award 5 times this year despite missing a couple of weeks due to injury. Then you say, you and your buds up there in Kingsport are mad because the way you team has played, or may play, when they are 10 -0, averaging over 28 points per game while giving up less than 10, and being ranked # 1 in the state. Do you know how many teams would love to have just one season like that? Win or lose in the playoffs its been a great year. Get real please!
  21. Tribal - WacoJaco True the game was not one of the Tribes best, but they beat a region rival 22 -14. Have ether of you taken the time to watch how busy the trainer is during the games lately. This team is banged up. WacoJaco in your previous posts you were lamenting the loss of starters, ???In most cases if you have problems in your secondary it takes a mamouth effort to fix. In DB's case losing your best player in a secondary that already has problems is a very bad sign??? yet they still out lasted a hard fighting SC team and won. Just as you predicted WacoJaco. ???The only way DB wins is by running the ball and controling the clock. DB ??“ 24 SC ??“ 21??? By the way, Carter??™s loss was evident on the line last night as well. I would like to take a shot at answering some of your questions and commenting on some of your statements, like: ???does anyone know if the offensive line ever showed up???? Obviously they did not have their best game, but when the game was on the LINE they bowed their necks and the O had a clock controlling 97 yard TD drive in the 4th quarter. You can not do that without a dominate O line. ???Anyway, it seems like if we're in a do or die situation and absolutely have to have a play we're good at coming up with the right call (e.g. the throws to the FB)??? You know, at most schools the call that great coaching. ???the general gameplan is bogged down in toss sweep to Chris/Chris up the middle??? and ???I also think a good bit of it is the playcalling. Teams know our tendencies later in the season and look for them, and I'm not sure we do such a good job of mixing things up. Last night, it seemed like SC loaded the box early, and while Chris had a few good runs??? Yea, the sophomore with the brace on his arm only averaged 6.2 yards per carry against SC. (also see ???does anyone know if the offensive line ever showed up? and ???The only way DB wins is by running the ball and controling the clock.???) Guys (or girls), what usually happens in a game when an offensive team averages 6.2 yards per play? They WIN! They don??™t score 50 points but they win. ???BTW what happened to the slants to 25 across the middle that have been so successful all year???? Yea, 25 only caught one slant for a TD last night. Guys (or girls), you seem to support the team, but please quit being so critical of a bunch of banged up 16 and 17 year old kids giving their all for DB. Questioning coaching is part of the game we all do it, just stop taking examples of good coaching and portraying it as bad.
  22. It??™s hard to say at this point how long he??™ll be out. Dr. said 4 to 6 weeks, however if he responds well to treatment, it could be sooner.
  23. Pujo, I could not agree with you more on this one except for one thing, Grace??™s memory is not short, it??™s nonexistence. As you said above Grace has uses ???extremes to build??? and they have replaced people regularly in what appears to be an effort achieve rapid growth. They started their football program 7 years ago and in that time they have had 4 head coaches. The last brought in a completely new staff. The high school administrators are new. The majority of the teachers are new. They weren??™t there for the first two plus years when Grace did not even score. They weren??™t there when teams pulled there starters in the first quarter. The sad part is not that these coaches seem not know the past and run up the score on teams, that just a couple of years ago gave Grace a break. The sad thing is that Grace Football has forgotten the kids that worked hard and suffered through those first few years and made today??™s accomplishments possible. I bet the fans of your team can tell me who your best players were 4 or 5 years ago. Can most Grace fans do the same?
  24. I ain??™t got a dog in this fight, however I??™ve been on both sides and I??™m going to give ya both some insight. Anti-Grace folks: public schools around Knoxville are nothing like what they are on the mountain. There are gangs, guns, and attitudes country schools just would not put up with. Sometimes parents feel that they must sacrifice to get their kids to a better school and that??™s the case for most parents at Grace. As far as transfers, Grace also has lost some good players who were in their system for years, that would definitely have helped them this year. For example, there is a very good ex-Grace linebacker who is averaging several tackles a game at 5A Karns, and a two way starter on a 5A DB team that is a top 5 football team in the state of Tennessee. This kid played on Grace??™s first football team and, when he was a sophomore, started over some of their better players now. (Also there is a starting basketball player at 4a Halls). Suffice it to say, transfers do go both ways. Grace fans: you are missing what you should see in the opinions posed in this blog. Open your eyes and try to see yourselves as others see you. I know each of you sacrifice to send your children to school at Grace and you are proud of your kids and your school. However, be careful for your actions are being misinterpreted. For example, You put hard wood floors in your press box. I know you were trying to do the right thing and have a nice place to entertain visiting administrators. But, most others see it as flaunting wealth. Another example would be your lack of football fan protocol. When I was at your homecoming game two years ago most fans arrived late. When you got there you just came in the stands and took over. You were standing in front of the visitor??™s fans to the point where they could not see the game, with total disregard for the parents who were trying to watch their children. You may have been excited about the new field and the homecoming ceremony, yet they saw it as arrogance. Stop patting yourselves on the back and start acting in a manner that others would like to emulate, not spurn.
