  1. Not sure where you are getting your information but Cheatham had 10 JV games at least last year and has 15 this year plus 5 or 6 freshmen games according to their schedules I have. I think the problem with them is numbers in years previous to last year. Coach Stew has always played JV games as far as I can remember though. I also know that White House, Greenbrier, and Sycamore all play a ton of JV and Freshmen games and always have. And you can play a ton of JV games, but until you get in those Varsity games and get those minutes, it's tough to be prepared for what you face. It doesn't matter if you are a senior or freshman.
  2. Yeah the hits keep coming for the Cubs...3 starters gone and also heard a promising sophomore has a stress fracture in his leg. The freshman you speak of would have played minutes I think for sure. The youngest Mayberry will be back soon depending on the severity of the concussion. But the other 3 guys will be out until late in the season at best. Gonna be a really tough year for Cheatham. They will be playing mostly guys that have never stepped on a varsity floor before and are getting thrown straight into the fire. Plus their schedule is brutal heading into district play with Clarksville Northeast, Northwest, and Brentwood still up ahead. I hate to see the 2 seniors get injured like that. Hopefully they can get better and at least play a few games to end the season. Nobody wants to see that happen.
  3. Creekwood is definitely better than expected, #22 is a stud and they hit a lot of 3's, but Cheatham had some major injuries in this game. Their best player looked to have broken his wrist on the second or third play of the game. Another starter landed on his head and was out with what looked like a concussion. The Harlan kid didn't play hardly at all and when I asked why I was told that he didn't practice all week with strep throat. After all that happened they seemed to just lose steam and basically mailed it in. Played their deep bench basically the whole second half and Creekwood kept their starters in and pressed until about 4 minutes left in the fourth. Just one of those crazy games. Definitely not indicative of how I would expect them to play the rest of the year. Watched them at Fairview on Tuesday and they looked pretty good. If the injuries are bad though it could be a very long year for Cheatham.
  4. Cheatham played Portland this summer and beat them by 15+
  5. Austin Douglas - Cheatham County High School Averaging about 30 points and 13 rebounds a game. Also carries a 4.0 GPA and is second in his class.
  6. It will all be held at Vol State in Gallatin.
  7. Good analysis here, but I think the district tournament bracket would be: (1) Cheatham vs. Bye (4) Heritage vs. (5) Westmoreland (2) Harpeth vs. (7) White House (3) Greenbrier vs. (6) Sycamore
  8. Cheatham County has played 8 different teams with winning records. (Just counting the team once. Not accounting for multiple games played against the same team.) Kenwood has played 6 different teams with winning records. (Just counting the team once. Not accounting for multiple games played against the same team.) Cheatham and Kenwood have each played 3 like opponents that don't have winning records also and both are 3-0 against those teams. (Not counting Sycamore who Cheatham hasn't played yet) Cheatham has played 3 different teams ranked in the polls this year: East Nashville (at East), Kenwood (at Cheatham), and Meigs County (neutral floor) and went 3-0 against them. Kenwood has played 5 different teams ranked in the polls this year: CPA (neutral floor), Cascade (neutral floor), Dyer County (neutral floor), South Fulton (neutral floor), and Cheatham County (at Cheatham) and are 2-3 against them. Neither team has played a cupcake schedule at all. Kenwood I think has played a tougher schedule based on a district level standpoint for sure, but that can't be helped. Also, they lost to Cascade without 2 of their starters and top players so that's a tough one. This argument is ridiculous and tiresome to say the least. Kenwood is good. Cheatham is good. Dyer County is good. CPA is GREAT. (Record against TN teams speaks for itself.) Cheatham beat Kenwood in their only meeting on their home floor. Does that mean that Cheatham would beat Kenwood every time they played them? No! I think if they played each other 10 times, each team would probably win their share of them. Kenwood is a very good team and very well coached. They have some really outstanding players that are going to be very successful at the next level. Most Cheatham fans enjoy the games against Kenwood because they know that they are going to get better playing them. There's also a friendly, fun rivalry there as both coaches coached with each other at one point at Cheatham County High School. My whole thing for you lookingfortalent is that this is a Cheatham County Cubs Basketball thread, which means that you are on here talking down to fans of this particular team. Do you not expect them to defend their team fully and unconditionally? As far as that goes, most everyone that has posted to you has nothing but complimentary things to say to you about Kenwood High School and their coaching staff until you started bashing the Cubs. For me personally, I want to see both teams succeed and go far in the tournaments. I think if things fall in line that both teams could potentially make the state tournament. Good luck to both teams going forward!
  9. Here we go. As I was watching the game last night, I knew that a Waverly fan was going to get on here and blame the whole loss on the officiating. I was there and the officiating was TERRIBLE both ways. Two huge calls were made on the big kids from Cheatham getting clean blocks on Mullinax at the end of the game that gave Waverly the lead. You can definitely argue that Etheridge got fouled at the end of the game, but you can't argue that he didn't commit an intentional foul. He wrapped both hands around Brinkley and never went for the ball. That gets called an intentional everytime. And the fact that you said the officiatiing kept the game from being a Waverly blowout is absurd. They had plenty of chances to put Cheatham away being up 8 or 9 on a couple of different occasions and couldn't. And none of that had to do with officiating. The Cubs shot under 38% on the night according to one of their coaches and STILL won. Waverly hit 10 3's and the Cubs STILL won. That's what good teams do. You said that Waverly missed about 8 uncontested layups, well so did Cheatham. With all that being said, I thought that game was REALLY good. A lot of people say that neither of these teams play good defense and only want to score, but last night there was a lot of good, solid defense being played. You say that Mullinax was cold, but don't you think that has something to do with who was guarding him? Darden has held him to 16 and 17 points both times they have played this year. He has the length to bother his jump shot off the dribble, and to stay with him and contest him at the rim. It says something about Mullinax to score as many as he has both games. Both coaches did an excellent job of making adjustments from the last game at Waverly. Waverly actually controlled the pace and slowed down the game, not running and jumping as much like I'd seen them do earlier in the year. I think that's a testament to the Cubs because they run so well. That was definitely a tournament type game with a lot of hard nosed play. I'm a Cheatham fan and will always will be, but Waverly is very good. The three guards they have are legit in Mullinax, Etheridge, and Smith. And if they are all going at the same time, any team is in trouble. I thought for sure Mullinax was going to hit that last three he took in regulation to give Waverly the lead. He made every big play before that. Good luck to them. I enjoy watching them play and have a ton of respect for them. For Cheatham, Brinkley once again saved the day for them. He made every big play down the stretch. The tip in to give the Cubs the lead for good, and the steal and free throws to ice it. (We won't mention the missed front end of a 1 and 1 before that, hahaha) He was in foul trouble VERY early in the first quarter and I think that hindered the Cubs in the first half. Darden carried the Cubs in the third quarter as did Saunders in the first half to keep it close. Thomas controlled the boards in the second half, where the Cubs got killed in the first half. Big contributions from Harlan and Bates off the bench too. The last thing I will say is this: BOTH of these teams are really good. It's been a long time since this district has had 2 teams that could get to the state tournament, and I think either one of these 2 teams can. But anything can happen during tournament time. Upsets happen all the time. Teams that are better end up losing all the time. That's what makes basketball so great, the unexpected nature of it. There are still several teams in the district that can pull an upset. Creekwood can attest to that. Good luck to everybody come district tournament time! It should be a good one!
  10. That is incorrect. Head to head is the first thing they look at if two teams are tied. If they have split, then they look at the next highest seeded team to see how each team did against that opponent. If it is still the same after that, then they go to the coin toss. As for the other topic, I think it doesn't matter who's ranked ahead of who. Having both teams ranked in the top 10 in AA in the state is an incredible accomplishment! They are both VERY good teams and will probably play each other a few more times. But if I had to pick one over the other, I would pick Cheatham ranked higher (right now) purely based on tougher schedule, same record, and the head to head victory AT Waverly's own home gym. But who really cares...both teams should be proud, and it just makes the next matchup even that much more exciting!
  11. The coach from Cheatham played a lot of players Friday night and actually only started one player that normally starts for them. Guys that usually don't play any minutes or just a few minutes a game played a ton the other night for the Cubs and a few of them even started. It was a cool thing to do and was probably pretty easy to do knowing they would never be in any danger to lose.
  12. I think the reason that people are responding so harshly to you Printdd is because the things you are saying aren't very accurate. Cheatham completely took Ravenwood out of their game the other night, and "very questionable calls" had nothing to do with them having 29 points going into the 4th quarter. Cheatham completely controlled the game throughout, and if they wouldn't have quit playing at the end of the game and made better decisions, would have won by 20 or more points easily. As far as Saunders goes, he's faced gimmick defenses in his last two games, with Sycamore using a Diamond and 1 against him and Ravenwood starting in a Box and 1. Has any of Waverly's players garnered that much respect from anybody yet? I suppose not since they've played the likes of East Hickman, Perry County, and Houston County. And that brings me to my next point...I understand that Waverly now has a very vaunted up pace game with a lot of scoring, but you've played a bunch of single-A teams that are down right terrible. Your only challenge on the year has been against Ravenwood who loves to score and play an up paced style as well, and you lost that game. So yes, everybody is aware of them averaging 80 points, but nobody is paying attention yet. Now if you go beat Beech and Dickson, or any other team that is a quality opponent, and you're averaging 80 points a game still, then people will start paying attention. All that being said, I think Waverly is going to be a very tough team to beat and are very good, and the district race is clearly between them and Cheatham, but you can't say the things you're saying and not expect criticism for it. I definitely don't think Cheatham will "stomp" Waverly though, and that both games will be very good, intense battles. Good luck to both teams moving forward.
  13. I hope this snow doesn't cause any cancellations tomorrow. I know that it isn't supposed to amount to much, but weirder things have happened when it comes to weather situations. There are some big games tomorrow in the district: Cheatham vs. Camden - This is for sole possession of first place in the district and is at Camden. Tough place to play for opposing teams. Camden is MUCH better at home than away. Waverly vs. Creekwood - Could be interesting. Total contrast of styles here. Central vs. Stewart - One of them tries to get off the snide and get their first district win. Harpeth has the bye in the district, but definitely didn't do themselves any favors by scheduling East Lit and Dickson back to back. Good luck to all the teams and hopefully they'll get these games played!
  14. Dude or dudette...chill out! I was just joking and trying to bring levity to the situation. You do know how to laugh right? I assumed you did after your Shrek joke and your veiled, underhanded attempt to call HowDo and I donkeys. I thought that showed real "professionalism" myself. You've won...the issues have been addressed and are being fixed. I agree that they needed to be, and that there did need to be changes. I agreed with KSGOVOLS on everything he said. IHigh is a great tool and everyone should be privy to that tool. The only problem I had with you BB is that you were saying it was malicious and underhanded, which I found insulting. I admitted that it was handled wrong, yet you kept insinuating that the Cheatham administration and coaches purposely tried to keep the broadcast from happening. That is a slap in the face and totally not true. KSGOVOLS...I also am glad that they got signs put up by the bathroom doors, because on more than one occasion I've almost embarrased myself by walking into the ladies restroom...hahahaha... It's all about basketball from here on out for me. If I don't go on another hiatus that is...
  15. It's over!!! Thank the lord that the tyrannical and oppressive taping regime at Cheatham has been foiled! Only with the insight and forethought of a few, would the injustice be brought to bear! Now we must all strive to make sure this plight never consumes us again. Stay strong friends, and maybe, just maybe, we'll get some signs put up in the gym, and the indiscretions will cease. Because we all know that signs, no matter here nor far, are the ultimate nullifiers in this battle against evil!
