  1. Who is out in this district? How are things looking so far?
  2. For those who don't know, his name is Preston Overbey. Best in the state...I don't know and wouldn't want to have to decide. He is very good though, and so are Clayton Gant and Josh Liles....no way would I want to choose!
  3. Explain the hoopla over Houston to me....USJ beat them 13 to 3. Is there another Houston? Did the wrong one show up for the game Apr. 19?
  4. I wish we could get that kind of coverage in Jackson. You would think with all of the baseball interest in Jackson (New Sportsplex) there would be a lot of coverage. I would be willing to bet there haven't been more than 5 articles on Jackson baseball (or any other nearby team) since the season began Mar. 13.
  5. With all of that, why is Houston ranked so high? USJ beat them 13 to 3 on April 19. Now that's a spanking!
  6. My boys like practice too...but they still want a chance to get in the game. So all of the extra instruction definitely helps. My statement earlier was really against the nerve of 3-6-3 suggesting that parents should save their money for college. My husband and I (hopefully) have already got that covered academically as well as savings.
  7. Education is the BIGGEST deal. I expect As and Bs from both of my boys and will accept nothing less without consequences and they both know it. As for a game starting at 5:00 that is an hour away, explain to me how a parent who gets off at 5:00 is going to get there in time to see it. Besides, I don't know what your job is but I know most people can not just walk out at exactly 5:00 on the dot. Our coach buys bats. We have players who can not afford to buy the one they want. Other than basketball name the sport that doesn't have expensive equipment. Everything is more specialized and everyone is looking for whatever will give them an edge over the next guy. I played basketball and we had games lasting till 9:30 on school nights and so did my husband. We survived and kept our grades up. It's part of being an athlete, there are sacrifices.
  8. I don't spend money on pitching or hitting instructors so my child can get a scholarship...I do this so my child can compete at the high school level and the college level if he chooses. I do not expect a athletic scholarship, he will get an academic one, but he wants to try to walk on some where and without the extra help his chances are definitely diminished. The more he practices in the field, hitting, as well as pitching the better he will be and his chances to play. 9. Forget the high priced score board, have you priced a good bat lately? And a coach can't have just one, this isn't a one size fits all situation. Tournaments are a quick way to make money as opposed to a car wash (which is all day and brings in very little) or candy sales which have to last at least a couple of weeks, or Bar-B-Q sales which still last all day and doesn't bring in much. Tournaments not only bring in money but they also provide more experience. Sometimes pitchers who wouldn't otherwise get much playing time get good work outs during tournaments. That experience is priceless. As for games at night, some parents work a 9 to 5 job. If all of my child's games were after school (3:00) my husband would never see our child play!
  10. Your child sounds like a great athlete, this rule didn't and won't hurt him....it will hurt the kids who are not the great athletes, the ones who already have to work harder than the rest just to get a chance. I'm all for playing multiple sports, I did it when I was in school; my child however is not any good at basketball for example so once football is over he is "free" so to speak. I will have to get him help, as much as I can afford, he's already behind as it is, so he can have a chance to compete in baseball...we couldn't afford the travel team route; which accounts for why he is so behind other players in his grade. This rule just made it even tougher. I sure would like to know what family missed out on their vacation to bring all of this about.
  11. If those facilities were school facilities, he won't be in them any more.....such a shame.
  12. I like the throwbacks all the way....they are awesome! With the short little bills, they're so cute.
  13. Great Game Bruins! Outstanding play by all....Preston you pitched a good game....Josh was great behind the plate...all players did their part, fielding and hitting....Dusty, Will, and Hunter made some great catches in the outfield...Danny made an awesome play to pick off a runner at second...Benji fielded the ball well at second...Clayton was tough at first...and John held tight at third...and all hitters came through! Way to go Bruins!!!
  14. For anyone who has not met the players on this team, they are all business on the field and off they are all support for each other. From the weakest link to the most talented. They all pull for each other and no one is left out.
  15. My bad I wouldn't take anything away from Gant, he's great! And he's a great kid too! I just wasn't paying attention to your date to realize the last night you were referring to. You know, since that team has hit more than just one grand slam so far this season. My bad I wouldn't take anything away from Gant, he's great! And he's a great kid too! 16. USJ and Ripley play Monday at USJ and again Tuesday at Ripley. Hmmmmmm..? By the way the kid that hit the grandslam the other night I believe was Preston Overbey and he is a 15 yr old Freshman. If everyone is fussing now just wait till the 9 Freshmen are seniors!
  17. My son is 14 in the 9th grade. I sure wish I had held him back due to maturity and size.
  18. USJ only has two seniors starting regularly the rest are juniors, and mostly sophomores and freshmen. They are kind of young when you look at it. A freshman is leading the team in homeruns with 8 so far.
  19. As of yesterday USJ has beaten Covington twice and Haywood once. They play Haywood again tonight.
  20. Does anyone know who USJ pictched against Riverdale? My child is on the USJ JV team and they didn't go to the tourney, so he wants to know. Thanks.
  21. Who is winning the USJ vs Riverdale? What inning are they in? Who is pitching for USJ? How is the game going?
  22. I would have to say Bartlett. They are unbelievable.
  23. Just wondering who are the top AA teams? And who has the coaches that can get the job done?
