  1. I guess I missed something along the way with this conversation. Has there been an issue with private schools running up the score in soccer? Arlington (Shelby County) and Brighton (Tipton County) are public schools.
  2. Phargis, I want to THANK YOU for all the great comments about Scarlet Gable! She truly has been a joy to watch the past 4 years at Munford High School! My oldest daughter, Brandi, played with Scarlet for 3 years, my youngest, Kelsey, played with her 1 year! Kelsey wants to be an outside hitter just like Scarlet! Scarlet Gable put Munford Volleyball on the map! You have always been a big fan of Scarlet and volleyball, and I thank you and respect you for all the kind words! Congratulations to Scarlet and all the other players in this great state selected to the 'TSWA All-State Volleyball Team'! I hope everyone who reads and comments on the CoachtT website will continue to pray for our troops in harms way, and their families! Scarlet's dad, Phillip, is proudly serving the USNavy aboard the USS G.H.Bush!
  3. This is why I was wondering exactly what the rule is. Can someone state the rule as it is in the rule book for both situations? It seems the umpires are adding their own take on the rule. I guess the rule is not clear on it.
  4. It sounds like we have liberal umpires making up the rules as they go along. I think the umpire in this case was persuaded (influenced) by the 4 coaches arguing every little call. The obstruction rule was an easy one to call, but within the last 4-5 years I've seen coaches trying to add their own changes to the rule.
  5. This is why I was wondering what the rule is, how clear it is on obstruction? Does it give umpires any leeway in the decision? Is the rule book the umpires use available online?
  6. Runner on 2nd base, ball hit to the SS. SS runs up in the baseline to catch the grounder, runner takes off from 2nd, notices the SS and runs behind the SS towards 3B. SS throws to 1B, but the throw is late, runner safe at 1B. The runner at 2nd was called out for obstruction or interfence. The runner never touched the SS, but the umpire called her out for obstructing the SS.
  7. Can someone post the rule for obstruction in TN High School softball? Is there a clear rule on what is obstruction between a runner and an infielder?
  8. What position or positions does a Utility player play? Why do they have a selection for Utility player? If a player plays 2nd base the whole season, and no other position, are they considered a Utility player?
  9. Here is the situation: The umpires on the field blew a call where the 3B was blocking the bag (the ball was in right field and no play possible at 3B), the runner was blocked and fell trying to run home on the play. The home plate umpire did not see the obstruction. The runner should have score on the play but had to go back to third. The parents / fans were very upset nothing was called. Several fans became very vocal. The umpire warned one, but he kept on, and was thrown out of the park by the umpire. The coach exchanged words with another fan and told the fan he was going to have him thrown out of the game, then went to the umpire and demanded he throw the fan out.
  10. I noticed an umpire throw a fan out of a game. I also noticed a coach go up to a fan, then tried to have the fan thrown out of a game. Are both situations allowed?
  11. I am trying to understand to whole picture. DII schools can offer scholarships to athletes, correct? Or is it called financial aid? The only schools in DII are private schools, correct? DI has private and public, but the private schools in DI do not offer financial aid or scholarships to their athletes, correct? Did all this (financial/scholarship to athletes) change within the past couple of years? I was talking to someone last night and when their son was in school, if the school offered him a scholarship or financial aid, they couldn't play a sport. The big question I have about this whole issue is: Are all the schools in DI on a level playing field? Do private schools in DI have an advantage over public schools, since public schools are restricted to a specific residential zone whereas private schools are not? Again, I am trying to understand the big picture in this long standing issue and if TSSAA is doing the right thing.
  12. Does anyone have a breakdown on how many students enrolled at private schools that received financial aid? And how many students that received this aid play a sport?
  13. Yes. I have another issue.. there is a private school in MS that is part of the TSSAA, why?
  14. Can someone explain to me how the schools are separated into divisions, I & II, private and public? What qualifications determines what division a school is in? I noticed there are some Christian schools (I assume private) that are playing in the same division with public schools? Can private schools offer scholarships and if so, can someone on a scholarship play a sport? Do private schools offer financial aid to these students, which allows a student to play a sport? I hear rumors of schools that are recruiting the best athletes to their school (public and private). Where is the line drawn as to what is legal?
  15. Brighton beat Liberty 8-0 Monday night. Brighton will play Hardin Co for the championship Thursday night.
  16. I could not understand why the Henry County fans (I assume a bunch of adults) brought their obnoxious air horns, truck horns, train horns (or what ever you call them) to the games, until I saw a home gave recently. There were alot of empty seats in the stadium, so I guess the horns made up for the low turnout! Get rid of the horns, pack your stadium, yell for your team! The TSSAA needs to outlaw the man-made horns. There is no place for the horns in high school sports!
