  1. Just for clarification, there was never a tying goal to disallow. The ball hit the side of the net, and the net was loose. I do agree shame on the game officials for not doing a good pre-game.
  2. From those of us in the Memphis area where bermuda is king, please know that bermuda requires warm nights and hot days to grow. Probably the cooler weather this year affected the surface at Siegel. As for the Mike Rose, unfortunately Big G is right and the side fields remain in rough shape from over use. However, the stadium is making a nice rebound.
  3. That certainly could be a factor, along with FR being able to watch the CBHS game and not vice-versa. However, the schedule is what the schedule is, and I'm certainly not worthy of questioning the all knowing, all wise TSSAA!!
  4. I've watched CBHS play both of them. I will have to go with my fellow West Tennesseeans from Houston.
  5. CBHS v JP2 is at 4:00 p.m. Central on Saturday @ CBHS.
  6. Even though we (CBHS) got it handed to us, JP2 was a nice field. They should build some seating into the hillside and have a natural amphitheater.
  7. I'm with you on that. Believe it or not, though, soccer is not the big sport at CBHS - so we play on what's there for us! I've never played on it, but the ball does roll true - no bad bounces. Also, no rain outs or practices forced indoors because the field is too muddy. We do practice on grass, and my guess is most of the players would prefer a nice smooth grass field.
  8. Matt Roberts at CBHS is a defender/mid to watch. Very quiet player - no trash talking, no working the refs. As fast as the situation requires and very good with either foot. His effectiveness is the simple nature in which he plays. Great vision, good decisions, no wasted effort. The only reason he did not see varsity time is he scored extremely well on his entrance exam and received some academic scholarship for his Freshman year.
  9. At CBHS, we play on the turf field put down by the football boosters . . . green year round and never needs cutting! In Memphis, Collierville High School has a really nice field, and I believe it is some form of thin leaf bermuda. Could be wrong.
  10. The Rendezvous, the King, and great soccer -- it doesn't get much better than that!! Thank ya, Thank ya very much!
  11. D2 AA West Region Knock out game: MUS 1 (#3 seed from West) ECS 0 Championship: CBHS 2 (#1 seed from West) St. Benedict 0 (#2 seed from West)
  12. Beginning with substate, every game is a knockout game. Substate is replacing the traditional quarterfinals.
  13. Agreed. While the 3 states of Tennessee love to put it on each other, we all are in unison when a tragedy like this occurs. From CBHS and West Tennessee, our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the families and programs involved in both instances.
  14. Congrats Big G on win #100! It doesn't happen by accident. Well done and glad to see Brandon Tarr is back (since we don't have to play you . . .).
  15. D2 AA West Region Semi CBHS - 4 ECS - 0
  16. Regardless of the final W-L, this will have been the year to remember for you, Big G! Best of wishes and prayers for Brandon and your sweeper (and anyone else I might have missed).
  17. Just to be clear, no one that I know of at CBHS is whining. As I said before, and I think I speak for most of the CBHS fans, congrats to JPII on the win. You earned it. Case closed. Also, the Farragut/CBHS game was a good battle, just like last year when the two played at the Palmetto Cup. Two good teams going at it hard!
  18. Hats off to JP2. They took care of business. Makes them and Baylor the teams to beat in D2!
  19. CBHS - 1 Farragut - 1 Farragut scored on a PK in the first half and led 1-0 at the half. CBHS tied it up in the second half and had several chances to put it away but couldn't convert. First half fairly even. CBHS controlled the second half. Time for Panera Bread and then hopefully give JPII a good game at 4:00.
  20. Congrats to JPII on a great win. We (CBHS) are looking forward to two very tough contests tomorrow. Hope we have some gas left in the tank at 4:00!
  21. CBHS won 2-0. Controlled the game. According to the scoreboard, shots were 25 - 3, CBHS. Style of play I'll keep to myself, but I was not pleased with the Center's lack of control of the game - unsafe.

As with most things in life, it appears there are lessons here for all of us. First, for those who would hand CAK the state crown, the record books are full of teams who dominate on paper, but lose the match. Brandon played for Crush and they were very good. After he left, they won one or two state championships in club, and are the reigning U18 champs. I??™ve seen on these boards that Alexander Darsinos would have been the best player in the state this year. A great player, no doubt, but they lost in the first round of DII state last year. And, Baylor, the no-name team who lost umpteen Seniors the prior year wins it all by defeating a CBHS team with 12 Seniors. The New York Giants, LSU, Davidson College ??“ you get the picture. Second, a good friend once told me ???hear the words, but trust the actions???. I??™ve listened to Big G in this forum for the last year. Always sounded like a guy with high integrity and cares about the kids. We (CBHS) had the good fortune of playing CAK last week, and I was interested to now see the actions. The infamous ???corner kick??? will be remembered and debated. But, in the end, it was done in the spirit of the game ??“ which is the first principal they teach you in refereeing. Set that aside, they were great competitors, but even greater sportsmen. That is a reflection of their coach, period. So, I say trust G in leading his team. His actions have proven he is about more than winning or losing. He does what he believes is right and he cares about his kids. Third, for Brandon and his teammates, there are numerous lessons here of trust, commitment, teammates ??“ fill in the blanks. These decisions by all involved will have consequences, and hopefully they will be positive. But, positive or negative, they will all result in life lessons that will serve them later. Thanks.

I'm glad he made the decision AFTER the CBHS game! All the soccer reasons are great, but in the years to come he will be glad he spent his Senior year playing with his friends and for his school. Good luck!

    Red Cards

Language, but not sure what he said. It was deserved - you could tell by how quick the Center turned and pulled the card, how he walked off, and by the fact of no protest by any player. It resulted from a prior play where the A/R said he touched the ball twice and awarded West an indirect from about 8 yards out. They scored on the kick and that is what triggered the frustration. It did add a dimension to the game, though, as it took CBHS down to 10 and the back-up goalie for the remainder of the first half and the whole second half.
  25. Easy now - don't throw the West goalie under the bus!! A slightly different perspective saw the attacker on the first goal make a nice cutback on the defender to get the shot off. Also, if I'm not mistaken on the third goal there were one or two defenders who also got dribbled before getting to the goalie. The goalie actually had a pretty decent game. I agree West is a good, physical team and also that they will make some noise befoe it's over.
