  1. What we are talking about is a select few teams with dominance, not all privates. It is always the same privates in baseball. That is just like any other PUBLIC school that builds a program and exerts dominance. Take Farragut and Bartlett as two examples - especially Farragut. I would put them in the same category in terms of dominance as I would a Goodpasture and USJ. They've all built great programs. Isn't that the explanation that is given by Alcoa and Maryville folks regarding their foosball teams? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  2. I do know winning it all last year helps virtually "zero" at this point. Being from Wilson Co. I will be pulling for FCS, but I think both teams are solid (you have to be this time of year) and it should be a great game.
  3. I actually thought it was the other way around when looking at the schedules. I was unimpressed by LV's schedule. Although, I think both teams are very solid and should be a great game. In terms of schedule strength (which really doesn't mean anything at this point), I thought JCS and FCS both played the two toughest schedules.
  4. Ain't that the truth. That's the first time it's ever happened to me. (Don't tell my wife I said that) /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> **FLUSH** Tax dollars just running down the drain.
  5. Oops ... my bad. Shame on me. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> 8:12am on a Monday. Shouldn't you be educating young minds at East Lit instead of posting on message boards? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  6. There is a CA alum that I know they wish they could lure away from his current school - Richie Estep, head coach at Goodpasture. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> He has the CA bloodline as well as excellent on the field credentials. (multiple state championships and near misses)
  7. That is a completely inaccurate and false statement. Goodpasture has never been a part of D2. They've played 2A football before the split and after. There was a ton of talk that they weren't moving to 3A like Lipscomb was with the multiplier.
  8. As a Wilson Countian, I have to say that the Friendship Commanders are playing great ball right now. The run-ruled Cascade yesterday and are running through their normal gauntlet of AA and AAA teams to prep for the post season.
  9. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> I actually love the moniker! How do I change to the Oh Spreaded One? /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  10. Let me ask you this. The statement you made above also applies to private school transfers. Why are you hard charging (other posts) the privates if you are able to rationalize (yeah - I saw your question about regulating) Alcoa and Maryville? And to answer your regulating question, there is no "regulation" of public schools setting their zones. The primary goal of a public school is to educate - so they are allowed to set their attendance rules as they see fit (within federal/state regulations). ps - Antwan doesn't like to hear the Alcoa and Maryville stuff because it invalidates his arguments. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  11. Bingo! That is one of them. Now the second school is literally 5 miles away. Hmmm - who could it be? (tongue firmly in cheek) Maryville and Alcoa both employ a public school "benefit" in that they can make their own "zone" rules. Both schools are city run school systems. They make their own rules on attendance including whether someone lives in their respective cities proper (which is literally what the schools were chartered to do), the county, or the state. Yes, both have kids that live outside of their "city" areas. Yes, both have kids that do not reside in the county. In reality, any public school system can do this as seen in the past with the Riverdale zone transfers in Rutherford Co and Hillsboro in Davidson Co. Now why in the world is everyone picking at privates with the last 8 combined 4A and 2A state championships have resided within 5 miles of each other over the last 4 years (and it doesn't stop at the last 4 years either)? IF all this hooting and hollering was about equality and fairness, then a fair system that regulated all inequalities would be put into place.
  12. Actually, that is why some of the D1 privates are in D1. For example, it is in MBA's charter that the underpriviledged will be served with a scholarships. Casting aside the athletic scholarship rule was something they literally could not do. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  13. Let me ask you a question then. Do you know there are two VERY successful public school programs that allow out of "zone" students? You do not have to live in the city, county or state to attend these public schools. There is a very nominal tuition applied (roughly 1/5th the ABC privates), but there is also zero oversight of tuition accounting like with privates. Can you guess who they are (think VERY successful)? Were you aware of this? If so, why are you not outraged about their "advantages"? ps - I'm a public supporter too.
  14. I guess I would pose a couple questions back at you. When does it end? Why are we worried about removing competition from Junior's annointed state title path? That is what we are doing here, right? Personally, I feel a merit system is the best and fairest way to go. Every team in every class plays into there classification levels based on performance on the field/court/etc. Why isn't that a better solution?
  15. Right! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Just keep drinking the koolaid there in Jonestown - I mean Hartsville. I'm a public supporter. Always have been. Always will be. But I must say it does seem like much MUCH more than just random coincidence. I'm not the only other person that thinks that either. It is definitely big fodder around the middle TN high school discussions that I have had. When life gets tough, we just have to make koolaid - I mean lemonade. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  16. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...412/1002/SPORTS Does this "career move" seem oddly timed to everyone else as it does for me? After losing to FCS two years in a row (and probably many more times in the future now) and talks about the multiplier being removed (meaning CPA, DCA, etc. moving down to 1A and Goodpasture and Lipscomb ending up in 2A) - this move seems to be more than random coincidence. Although I saw the comments Satterfield made and his support of removing privates from his path, I never took him for a guy that would cut and run. To be honest, since his high school is the only game in his county - he should be allowing students from out of the "zone" to attend ala Alcoa and Maryville. He has enough clout to pull that off in TC.
  17. That sounds like Ravenwood in football. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  18. Sadly, I believe you are 100% correct. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  19. I know for a fact there have been a couple of exploratory get togethers to discuss over the last couple of years. I don't know if a "plan" is drawn, but the discussion has at least been had. For the TSSAA, there will be a painful loss in revenue from dues - in the range of 15% of dues. As for officials, I could imagine the private schools going out and paying for the best - isn't that part of the complaints now, that they have the best that money can buy. With the state being long and flat, I don't think it would be too terribly hard to get state organizations from other states to play - if the TSSAA decides that they won't sanction any games. Heading north or south - it doesn't take long to get to another state. Now, if the privates do start their own organization - maybe they can entice Alcoa and Maryville into joining them. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  20. I have to say kudos to the Riverdale team again - that is one heck of a great lineup. I've been a regular to the tournament for years and I will absolutely be in attendance again. For those of you who have not made the short trip to the Boro (or the surrounding hosted locations) - I highly suggest you make it. You won't find a better run tournament anywhere.
  21. I think you are genius - and I'm not being facetious. I think Ronnie's comments are meant to serve the purpose of bringing the subject up for major discussion. 2A public schools want the privates gone, 1A public schools don't want them back, and 3A schools are tired of Lipscomb and Notre Dame. That's roughly 60% (3 out of 5 classes) that most defintely don't want the privates. I think we very well may see a complete split and lawsuits galore in the near future. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. I don't think you can go wrong with those selections. They look strangly familiar with previous real results. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  23. Honestly, I think it will be all USJ this year. Everyone else will be there for poops and giggles. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  24. I have heard many, many, many similar stories over the last 5 years regarding this issue - in particular in my county with Lebanon High. It is a shame. I don't know if it is "wrong" or not as it would be understandable if a football-only player put in the time during offseason work outs to earn the spot - especially if the other play isn't participating (even for another sport). I will say that I've heard tremendous amounts of pressure have been applied to kids by coaches (not limited to one sport either) at Lebanon specifically. It is a shame.
