  1. Feeling a little "odd" today so I'm taking both #1's (SH & Jeff Co) and both #3's (DB & Cherokee). Of course the biggest stretch is Cherokee over TN High. Cherokee's bigs are a tough matchup for TN High. Likewise, Cherokee doesn't match up well on the perimeter with TN High. If Cherokee can handle the TN High pressure and turn it into a half court game they have a good shot. I think Cherokee's guards can break their press.
  2. It should be in the papers tomorrow, but anyone know which days the girls play? I was wrong about Volunteer. Central swept Boone while South and Volunteer split with them. Think South is regretting this loss to Boone about now? They may match up with DB better than Central or Volunteer, but loss to Boone probably means one-and-done in the districts for South. Don't think it will happen but Volunteer could still make regionals. SH has a cake walk to the district championship game played on their own floor. Not saying they will win it. If you can't choose among multiple sophomores from SH, then POY goes to the senior from TN High. Pretty simple. Like hands says though, the votes are in. Panther is obviously AM's AAU coach so he should be making a case for her. The only stat some coaches keep is ppg. These are not good coaches and their records tend to show it. PS - Comp, the feeling is mutual. Especially when your "tone" is directed at the girls on the floor.
  3. Not too far off myself, but then again everyone's picks were similar. Pancon had the tie at the top, but think I will finish a little better in the bottom half. Remains to be seen though. Good point by tommyman about 1 vs 2 as DB will be a much tougher game in the district semi's than 4 vs 5 winner. As for South, buckle up and I'm sure Comp will tell us the problem unless he's thrown in the towel.
  4. SHHS & THS tied at the top, DB locked in at 3, Crockett at the bottom, and 4-7 a tossup. BIG difference between finishing 4th or 5th versus 6th or 7th. Six and seven are one and done in district tourney, while 4 or 5 will make regionals and get at least 3 more games. Unfortunately these extra games will probably all be losses. Still think Volunteer has best shot at fourth.
  5. Beating Central puts you solidly in 4th place in my book. Take care of business second time through the schedule and the Lady Falcons can make it official. Had my doubts about DB early, but don't think anyone can take 3rd place from them now. Having six seniors should make a difference and box scores show they are. Without a mass exodus from somewhere (South?), they are in big trouble next season though.
  6. After beating South, ready to bring the cooler back out Falcon mom? Seriously, you'll have to beat someone besides South, Boone, or Crockett to sell me some Kool-Aid. Take down Central and you've got an argument for 4th place. Like 17 says, you better do something besides school ball if you want a scholarship.
  7. Didn't see Tn High - Volunteer but did the rest. Science Hill, South, and even Boone have some depth. DB does not but may have been missing a player or two (Clark the 3-pt shooter). Central had their way with Crockett so it was hard to tell if they were really good or more likely Crockett was really weak. (Actually some of their fouls were pretty strong.) Still probably Tn High & Science Hill at the top, but DB is certainly not a lock for third. Then again maybe South just has their number. Based on last night which really means nothing, you would have to say South and Central have a good shot for third.
  8. C'mon guys lighten up. If you can't talk trash before the first tip-off when can you? And it even rhymed while you two are lucky to spell correctly. Keep selling the kool-aid mom. I'm not drinking it though without a little something extra from out Blairs Gap way. And a couple of conference wins.
  9. Some pretty good comments and insights. Not sure I can add very much but here goes... 1) TN High finds a way to win no matter what. A couple of years ago they lost 6 or 8 seniors and still came back the next year to win the conference. Generally play harder than anyone else and only team that even really attempts to press consistently. Good balance in and out. 2) Science Hill has best shooters and good ballhandlers. Lack of post play is an issue but most teams in the conference won't take advantage. Could knock off TN High but still young. 3) DB is big and has a LOT of seniors. Guard play will do them in but France doesn't really use them anyway. Shouldn't take a genious to figure out to pressure the ball when playing them. 4A) Was going to poke fun at Falconmom, but Volunteer may actually crack the top half this year. Lindholm will need a lot of help to pull it off though. 4B) South has a DI commitment. (Does anyone else?) Think Campbell is their only senior though and a key junior is hurt. Some young players will have to step up (and not be totally demoralized) to finish in the top half. 4C) Central has a couple of very talented players but not much else. Still they could easily sweep both South and Volunteer. 7) Boone gets as much out of their talent as anyone else. Feeder system has really let them down lately though. 8) Crockett has same feeder problem as Boone but doesn't seem to get as much out of them.
  10. Didn't South finish next to last just above Crockett last season? Afraid they fall more in the Boone-Volunteer cluster.
  11. WK, thanks for SH update. As Comp or someone predicted, sounds like it will be between SH and TN High with everyone else scrapping for third place. Except for maybe Crockett, wouldn't really be surprised if anyone finished in the top half.
  12. WK, thanks for trying. Which freshman? Bailey? Thought you had about a dozen sophomores so a few of them must be pretty ticked. And you were fishing for camp info but haven't given any out. How did SH do?
  13. Volunteer, South, Nautilus Express, and Knoxville Lady Panthers. All we need now is some Boone or Crockett crowing and this thread will be complete. Hey, Kennedy, please rescue us with some SH trash talk or something. Even some TN High drama would be better than this.
  14. PH, you are a little out in left field on this one. Hoop is a well intentioned AAU coach up here who has done some good things for many girls most with little or no money out of their pocket. Don't really admire his methods or agree with his opinions on the value of school ball, but anyone that devotes the time and effort he does to girls basketball for nothing deserves some appreciation. And, yes, I think he is actually a small college recruiter, too.
  15. Perhaps the high school coach is trying to do what is best for his entire team and not just the one or two girls that are playing AAU.
  16. OUCH! I heard it involved a letter from the TMSAA about playing too many games.
  17. If it helps, Hampton and Sullivan girls and Holston and Mary Hughes boys finished 1-2, respectively, at the ET sectionals (or finals or whatever) held at Seiverville last season. So all the teams in the ET small school championships were from area 1.
  18. Tori Head, a four year starter, was not a real point guard?
  19. Better than last year? Didn't TN High graduate like 7 seniors including Montgomery? I underestimated them last year, too, but if they pull off another conference championship someone deserves a promotion.
  20. Agreed that the IMAC has generally gone further than the Big 9 in recent years. However, this was pretty much ALL Greeneville and their days in the IMAC and the IMAC itself are over due to reclassification. Perhaps Mo West can actually make it to state and win a game next season but it won't be from the old 6-team IMAC. You don't have to go back nearly that far to find a state tourney game winner. In 2004, Greeneville girls won their first game before losing to eventual champion Shelbyville in the semi's.
  21. Looks like there were NO 13U (and many other age groups) teams from the West. So they took EVERYONE that entered from South and North Middle. Are they going to take ALL 8 13U teams from the East substate? I hardly think so. (Where can I find East brackets for 13U or any other age for that matter?) Does anyone wonder why AAU is in decline? PS - Looks like there are 3 11U Lady Trotters teams and one went to Shelbyville for substate. Another was 2nd in the East.
  22. Never been so happy to admit I was dead wrong. Congratulations Big 9 ladies! Now can someone slay the MoWest giant? Will take an all-around effort that most don't have the personnel to pull off. With Moody Central may have had the best shot, but without her TN High has the best chance. Science Hill won't go down without a fight though.
  23. You are right about matchups. Even on their home floor, shocked to see TN High beat Greeneville after watching GHS dominate DB. Due to injury think Greeneville lost some ballhandling that was already suspect and TN High is quick enough to take advantage while DB is not. So, if DB wins district tourney and TN High finishes second, both could win home games against Jeff Co/MEast and GHS, respectively. Flip the finish though and both could go down in flames on first night of regionals. District 1AAA road teams are toast.
  24. Does anyone think District 1AAA will win a single game in regionals? I watched MWest, Greeneville, and Cocke Co (& DB) in the GreenBank tourney and don't think there is anyone in the Big 9 that can play with them. The winner of the district tourney might have a shot on their home floor vs IMAC #4 (Jeff Co or MEast), but the rest might as well forget it. This is the weakest Big 9 I've seen in 3 years. Can someone give me a reason to cheer up?
  25. No Foster probably means SH cannot win the district. It was going to be a battle with DB anyway and now they don't have any muscle to shove around multiple DB big girls. Is Central really as bad as they looked in the jamboree? With a post and Murr, Crockett will finish no lower than 6th. Top 3: DB, SH, Central Middle: THS, Crockett, South Bottom: East, Boone, Volunteer
