  1. Tell me more about this transfer. Is she from Unicoi? Agreed that a big post could be enough to get Crockett off the bottom and perhaps as high as 5th in the district. Not a lot separating the bottom five.
  2. Swap Central and Tennessee High and this looks pretty close. Moody has more help than Montgomery. DB may have more talent, but SHHS has more seniors. It will be a battle in the bottom five.
  3. Thanks for the update. Not really a Boone fan, but I too hope something can be worked out so their basketball careers don't end this way. Something similar happened with my son and years later it still makes me sad.
  4. Speaking of transfers, any chance one or more of the Boone seniors ends up some place close like Crockett, SH, or South? Seems unlikely a senior would transfer just to play a game they may be tired of, but they might make a difference at a program like Crockett or South. Bucdaddio?
  5. In what way? Ashlee Mitchell (Vance MS), Chloe O'Neil (Blountville MS), Pink Panthers & Science Hill 8th-graders are all great, but since they won't play a single minute in a 08-09 1AAA game I agree that a whole page about them on a HS topic is way too much. Aren't there forums for both MS and girls basketball travel teams? Maybe there is nothing to talk about in 1AAA girls basketball. If so, I've seen a rising sixth-grader...
  6. Wow! Perhaps they will change their minds. No program deserves it and the girls may live 70 years regretting it.
  7. Check out www.tricitiessports.com for excellent coverage of 1AAA with a definite emphasis on district 1.
  8. You are right that it is very early but I'll bite. In general we agree with the same 4 above and 4 below Boone. Just swap spots with the team above or below them: 1) Science Hill should be dominated by seniors Hill, Foster, & Good - when in doubt, take the seniors. 2) Dobyns Bennett lost much less than SHHS, but is probably a year away when Devine & Frolich will be seniors. 3) Central has a better supporting cast for Moody than TN High does for Montgomery. 4) TN High has Montgomery and that should be enough to keep them in the top half. 5) Boone has a big senior class but really needs some scoring to replace Caldwell & Nickels. 6) South lost even more scoring than Boone and has even less depth. 7) East returns at least Trivette, Loudermilk, and the big post. 8) Crockett has a little more help for Murr than Volunteer does for Price. 9) Volunteer really needs some ballhandling so Price doesn't have to do it all. Certainly some of these are close enough that a transfer, freshman, or a new coach could move them up or down a couple of slots, but I'll be surprised if it doesn't come down to SH-DB in the end.
  9. Yes, against the odds there were no home losers (boys either) and West continues to overachieve. A great late season run by West but does anyone really think they can make it to state? Depth and size will eventually catch up with them. If not tonight, then Saturday for sure. Maybe I should eat the shirt if wrong. Washed or not.
  10. DB's only senior is Olivia Blair. TN High also loses Snapp. Agreed it would be a mistake to overlook the Lady Vikes, but DB, SH, & Central will have more scoring options. Pretty sure Lauren Murr is only a junior this year, so Crockett will have some firepower.
  11. Agreed these look pretty even. The problem is I don't think Cherokee has anyone to match the freshmen Osborne or Lily when the starters go to the bench with fouls. DB is deep except for the point. Despite the huge size mismatch, TN High may put Jones on Dickson for quickness. If Dickson is guarding her, Montgomery would be crazy not to drive every time she touches it looking for a foul. Someone stepping up to take a few charges would discourage this tactic. Montgomery fouled out early against South on Monday. If West (the only one I haven't seen) is small/quick, why do they try to play a slow down, half court game? Do they just throw it around looking for the open 3? From box scores doesn't look like they get many FT's so they must not depend on the drive and fouls. Winning in JC is like winning in GreenEVILle - nearly impossible.
  12. Not surprising to see Big 9 posters picking Big 9 and IMAC posters picking IMAC. Statewide statistics from last year's first round of regionals suggest only one home team will lose. A 4 over a 1 seems a much longer shot than a 3 over a 2. So, either Cherokee or South pull off the (mild) upset. Given West has already overacheived to get a 2 seed after finishing last in the regular season, they seem to be the obvious choice to be the only home loser. However, as noted earlier, it is all really about the matchups. Snapp will have to guard Dickson. Who will guard Montgomery? Does West have the size on the perimeter to match Williams & Pickwell (and Campbell)? Cherokee does match up fairly well with DB but doesn't have the depth if it gets physical. Should be a great night of basketball.
  13. Yes, DB, SHHS, and....Central finally ending the regular season reign of TN High. South will struggle to remain in the middle 3 while East probably has the best shot to escape the bottom third. Another 5th place finish for Boone.
  14. Nine from the Big 9: Danielle Montgomery (TN High & just a junior) Megan Caldwell (Boone) Jordan Douglas (Science Hill) Johnesia Good (Science Hill, junior) Lauren Murr (Crockett, junior) Natalie Pickwell (Sullivan South) Samantha Williams (Sullivan South) Whitney Moody (Sullivan Central, junior) Blaine Frohlich (Dobyns Bennett also a junior) There are some other good ones like Jones (TN High) and Nickels (Boone), but the 9 above are the best I've seen.
  15. Big win by Central over DB last night. They are scary especially when their shots are dropping. Moody is a matchup problem for most people but especially DB. They may win the district next year. Third place in the district won't be an automatic win to the regionals. (Didn't Boone come from the 6th spot to knock out 3rd place DB last year?) Speaking of districts, does anyone know how they are doing it this year? Does the winner (TN High) get a free pass to regionals again or do they face the 8-9 playin winner? TN High held Caldwell to ONE point??? How many girls did they put on her? At least two if Stafford had 14.
  16. After only 4 or 5 games out of 16, way too early to count anyone out except... Don't you think a lot of it has to do with matchups? For example, DB should match up well with Boone but less so with SH. There really is no team in the district that is solid 1-5. Both TN High and South are 1-2 & 2-3 heavy while DB sounds strong at 4-5. SH might be the closest, but they are really more 234. It may be the "other" girls that make the difference on any given night. Is Montgomery still running point? If not, who is the dominant point guard in the district?
  17. Looks like 2, a little below her average: Girls' - Sullivan South 67, Science Hill 59 SCIENCE HILL (59) -- Jordan Douglas 4 1-2 11; Hill 0 2-6 2; Johnesia Good 5 5-6 18; Collins 1 1-4 3; Sonneberger 1 0-0 2; Fields 3 0-0 7; Jasmine Foster 7 2-5 16. Totals: 21 11-23 59. SULLIVAN SOUTH (67) -- Samantha Williams 6 7-8 22; Natalie Pickwell 6 2-3 14; Makensey Campbell 3 5-6 12; Collins 4 1-1 9; Latture 1 3-4 5; Ashley Johnson 2 0-2 5; K. Johnson 0 0-0 0. Totals: 22 18-24 67. Science Hill 12 15 19 13 -- 59 Sullivan South 20 12 18 17 -- 67 Three-point goals: SH 6 (Douglas 2, Good 3, Fields); SS 5 (Williams 3, Campbell, A. Johnson).
  18. Wow! Guess I overestimated Jeff Co. Are they still adjusting to new coach or is it the lack of a post game? Saw Greeneville and Cocke Co. Both have some very good players (does Dickson ever miss?) but are beatable. Buda had a real burst of speed at times, but appeared very tired at the end when she put up some air balls. Thought Cocke stayed in the 2-3 way too long. They had some success with the press as ballhandling appears to be a weakness with Greeneville. There were plenty of phantom foul calls on both sides, but it seemed to rattle the younger Cocke girls more than Greeneville. Depew picked up a real one within seconds of getting an imaginary one.
  19. Agree 100% with DZ except I'm not concerned about any of them.
  20. Depth is the big question for South. Unlike SHHS they cannot run 8 or 9 bodies at you. Injuries and foul trouble will dictate how far South can go.
  21. Not a math major, but doesn't somebody have to be a loser? Let's see...6 teams, play everyone twice makes 30 total (2 x 5+4+3+2+1) district games. If GreenEville wins 8, that only leaves 22 wins for the other 5. Cocke & Jeff Co each at 6-4 takes 12 of these meaning Cherokee and the 2 Morristowns splitting 10. From what I saw in a scrimmage, Cherokee looked pretty good so they should go at least 5-5. Sounds like a long season in Morristown.
  22. Greeneville's tall blonde is Rachel Collins.
  23. I hope this copy & paste works: http://www.aauresults.org/girlsb/re_nation...?lkid=&s=15 If not go to www.aaugirlsbasketball.org for all the game scores.
