  1. WIth the Rebel offense, that would explain some weight gain.
  2. Barney, you must be out of touch. Now days, the kid is the tail wagging the dog. Parents don't decide stuff, the kid does.
  3. There are too few padded practices in July already. Most teams start in pads on a Monday and scrimmage that Friday. Since safety is such a concern, I think there should be more instruction, not less. It doesn't have to be full contact, but more drills and instruction is needed to have the game safer.
  4. Exactly. These kids don't need to practice in a controlled environment to learn proper tackling and blocking techniques needed to prevent injury. Just let them learn on the fly during games.
  5. Using this logic, we'd get rid of sports at all levels. Guess what. The parents and sponsors have to fund raise at every level. So, your logic would shut down Little League Baseball (because the gov't doesn't fund it), youth football (cause the gov't doesn't fund it), and on and on and on. All youth sports would be gone.
  6. JSamson7, I realize that the money was raised. My point was that there have been upgrades to many sports facilities/equipment. Like the mats, the football field, track and baseball fields are mostly being paid by monies raised outside of the MCS budget through advertising and fund raising drives. Coaches, parents, players, fans, advertisers, and sponsors have ALL done a great job raising the funds for many sports. I was trying to make the point that many folks care about lots the sports.
  7. Seems to me that a LOT of money has been spent on the baseball, softball (adding some turf right now), and track programs in the last few years. Wrestling has new mats (they're not cheap). I'm sure there are other expenditures that I don't know about.
  8. I didn't know this. It's not so apparent to some of us.
  9. I think the football coach as already been picked and he has recruited some top notch assistants. There are rumors that he wants to restart the Eagleton youth football programs.
  10. When it was all said and done, Everett High School was located inside the City of Maryville for years.
  11. Mostly, I was referring to specialization at an early age. Almost everyone of these players who I know were multi-sport athletes until at least starting high school. Several continued to play more than one sport in high school. A.J. Davis will probably be D1 at some level. He plays basketball also.
  12. Many moons ago when I was in high school at Maryville, Benny Monroe (the offensive coordinator) would make all of the running backs (who didn't play basketball) wrestle.
  13. I don't know of any three sport athletes at this time but a few years ago, Christian Markham played football, basketball & baseball. Lots of current football players are also on the wrestling team, basketball team, baseball team or track team.
  14. Fulton vs Maryville did play in the IFL according Stefan Cooper in 2013. Maryville won so Maryville is 1 win and whatever in the IFL. " No doubt, Fulton is playing some awesome ball this season, but, in a Rebels vs. Falcons match, the numbers say Maryville, hands down. " https://blountpressrow.com/2013/11/maryville-vs-fulton/
  15. RR, help me figure this one out. I'm old you know. How many Ruvvurferd cownty schools have beaten Maryville since 6A started?
  16. That was 5A. There weren't six classes until 2009.
  17. One stud coming to the youth league team next year I hear!
  18. 10 members of the senior class played for the Southerners/Rebs.
