    MBA

Let me be the second person on this board then to ask for Gioia to step down. It is time for a major change at MBA and get things back to it's roots. Trust me, if he left there would be a multitude of coaching candidates who would be deemed "top shelf" coaches who would desire this job. With him there still there will be interest indeed but the word is out on Gioia. This situation stinks from the top down and he needs to resign. It happened on his watch. Period. He has has a long 16 year run. That is about 9 years longer than the average for a private school
  2. "Directory assistance how may I help you" ? Yes - I need the number for a David Pack located at 4700 Franklin Road, please. *********************** None of the coaches listed at the start of this thread have a snowball's chance for this job. This job needs a mender and a rebuilder. Plus, any coach is going to want to see what penalties are coming down the pike if any.
  3. When Ensworth calls next summer for their annual $1,000 donation for their football media guide I am going to refuse. Instead I am going to donate $500.00 to the middle school - since that is the only "real" Ensworth people know anymore. The high school might as well be called some other name. The other $500.00 will go to Shane Company Jewelers in a special fund set up for football and basketball players. After all, if Coach Bowers is going to let a few players war earrings then there should be more opportunity for the whole team. Congrats, Coach Bowers, your lack of discipline just cost you a grand.
  4. I was at the Ensworth/McCallie game Saturday at it was 93-50 or something like that. The clock stopped on all dead balls in the second half. I thought there was a mercy rule in hoops just like football.
  5. Unless I am mistaken I thought Lausanne was in D2A not AA. If that is the case they won't beat Webb in the final bec. they won't be playing them.
  6. What "commentator" are you talking about ???? The game was at Ensworth and the PA announcer was an Ensworth person.
  7. He played varsity basketball - thus it is 12 months from his last game there. That is the real reason he can't play football at all this season if you are looking for a technical reason per TSSAA rules.
  8. I agree with the previous post. Ryan should let the new AD be on board and have a major role in deciding who the new coach is - not a group of alums or parents on a search committee. That has nightmare written all over it. I am sure the committee did a fine job narrowing the candidates down but they almost need to take a step back and let him hire someone whom he trusts.
  9. That can go either way really. If the coach can coach, is well respected by the players,is a great mentor, handles parents, and gets the job done what difference does "being in the building" make ? That to me is an easy cop out for an administrator.
  10. First of all - I don't have a dog in this hunt. But I will say that it is rediculous that they do not allow for instant replay for all state tournament games. All of the games are filmed by the same company - every one of them. The technology is there so use it. The main deal is to get the call right when it comes to clock error or if a shot were a three or not. It looks to me from the photos that the three was indeed a three. The clock issue is another matter.
  11. The replay on channel 2 locally here showed that the defender's right foot was not set. It was not by much but it was indeed not set. I watched it several times.
  12. Great win by Ensworth and one heck of an effort by both teams. Congrats to Coach Pack and his Tigers. They beat a team that no one thought would be challenged from day one. Hard to beat a team 3 times in one year and Webb could not do it.
  13. D2 Small from what I hear
  14. Nope. Not Flatt. Try the Ensworth staff.
  15. I hear they are going after a "big fish" here locally and if they get him it will shock everyone in Nashville.
  16. Don't forget long time BA assistant David Pack who cut his teeth there now the D coordinator at EHS. That is a double whammy there. Pack and Bowers.
  17. There will be a great crowd but the 15,000 call is a bit much You have to understand that many fans coming to see this game will "cancel each other out" - meaning they run in the same circles and often go to a game involving either school each weekend. There are many MBA alums who are now Ensworth parents. It will be packed but not anywhere close to 15,000.
  18. The silence from the choo choo city is deafening.............I have a great deal of respect for McCallie football tradition but let's call a spade a spade - McCallie quit in the fourth qtr and that was disappointing. I have never ever seen a Big Blue team do that. Hope you realize now that Ensworth is in fact a varsity squad. You learned the hard way.
  19. Has he already left Eagleville ??? Saw where there is an "immediate opening" for an assistant coach there. If so, this would go down as the biggest "i told you so's" in history.
  20. If McCallie can pry Pack away from Ensworth they should do it tomorrow - a logical choice for them to consider.
  21. I can tell you from 2 very reliable sources at BOTH schools that this could very well happen this week. Stay tuned.
  22. That was all the talk last night at the Blue Cross Bowl - Rutledge will go from MBA to BA next year where he will be AD and head coach . Let the dominos start falling if that happens. I don't think we have seen the last of Flatt in high school football in middle Tennessee. Lots of possibilities here.
  23. There are TSSAA guidelines and then there are local school district guidelines. For example, a coach may be qualified as a non faculty head under the TSSAA part but not under the local guidelines (as is the case with Metro Nashville). Private schools have a little more room to do what they want with this situation. From what I have been told, a retired educator who meets the qualifications can be a head coach in any sport and is treated as any other full time faculty member. It is then up to the school and/or school district to decide if they want to apply any other requirements on top of that.
  24. Just curious - when did they stop doing the "blind draw" deal at the state tournament ???
  25. Where is the AAA D2 game ??? It is supposed to be on at 6:00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
