  1. It was in Lansing,Michigan, BigG, and yes I am a darn Yankee and proud of it, lol.
  2. Okay, I can't resist, first of all I am not a fan of padding stats against weak teams, however at some point it falls on the Coach and girls or boys of the Losing team to care enough about the game to do better. I know I will catch heat from some for saying this, but let me explain why I have this theory. I played Soccer in High School due to going to a Small Private School that didn't have the funds for football after a couple years. Our Schools first 2 Seasons in soccer we got our butts handed to us, it was sickening (fortunately that was the year before my class started High School). Several of the remaing players on the team and our incoming freshmen class were very competitive by nature and had a meeting about the State of our Soccer program. We all decided if this was the sport we had, then we were going to learn how to play well enough to be Competitive and win the State Championship, which we did in 1980 and 1981. That Summer we went to a Soccer Camp, and there happened to be a guest there who spoke often about his love of the game, and The Beautiful Game----yes it was Pele. His speeches, caring and instructional help for each and everyone of the Campers, taught us alot, most importantly, to never quit fighting on the pitch, never quit trying to improve our game, always know that it is a team sport (hence why I don't like the padding of individuals stats), and you have to work hard always if you want to be the best. I say all this, because there was 2 teams that would put a big number of goals up against us, our Freshmen year, and we never forgot it, or Pele's words. Our Junior and Senior year we beat them like they beat us and even did it to them in basketball. What I am trying to get across is, no it is not real nice to spank a team by double-digit goals, but it is the Nature of Sports in general---look at College Football. Instead of us saying it is not good Sportsmanship, how about we go to work and encourage our kids to continue to work hard, or even harder. Maybe turn about will happen one day, I know we enjoyed beating them by 12 goals our junior and senior years, and beating them by an average of 60 points per game in Basketball those 2 years also!
  3. Actually have not hyped Powell, have stated numerous times, they have talent, but there are other issues that have kept them from performing to potential. Signs of good things are there, however not anything that would put them on a Ranking Board. For the record, don't believe I ever said this Season they should be ranked.
  4. Karns has a decent team, but before you give them much hype let them play West or Oak Ridge. They did tie Halls this week, which is Not a premier level High School Team.
  5. First of all Coach, if it is you and I think it is or a friend of yours; You have more than 1 or 2 Travel Team, as you put it, Players. Secondly, the line-up can have 8-9 quality Competitive Team Players and then you put 2 Players on the Team in Critical Positions that are not on the same level either to prove a point to the girls or parents and the weakness affects the entire team. When you ask the girls for their Input and then tell them their Idea is Stupid, when you tell them you have Coached some of the Best Players, and they are not that good. When you tell their Freshmen Teammates they have an advatange because in a couple years they will have a chance to compete in State Tournament when they have been under your system, unlike the upper classman.....You have defeated the girls before they even started, and you have not earned their Respect. As many on this board says we need to be positive, let's hope and pray the Coach learns that also. These girls deserve our best both as parents and coaches!
  6. Powell 7 Clinton 0 Goals: Brittani Harris 2; Mali Collins 1: Maddie Cline 1: Molly chaffin 1: Kim Key 1: Jessica Key 1 Before anyone rips the girls for number of goals, entire bench played and they were not allowed to Score in 2nd half unless it was on a header, they did have 2 accidental goals in 2nd half that weren't headers.
  7. Powell 3 Anderson County 0: Powell Coach still Experimenting, to see what he has for back-ups, will be interesting to see how things go this weekend in Chattanooga. I believe we will be playing Franklin in one of the games. Hoping he has it figured out before Monday, since we open the District play against West. Offense looking scary good, Mid field solid to potentially excellent, Defense will be solid if he puts the right girls in and in the positions they are acustomed to playing in Club play. 2 solid Keepers to alternate time in goal. Keeping fingers and toes crossed that he has it figured out,........
  8. Okay, ET Ref, for the record, I believe it was also you that said in another thread, the one On the West Jamboree that the Powell Team didn't appear ready to play. I wonder who's responsibility it is to have the Team ready to play?
  9. First of all, I am not trying to trash him, was looking for informed input. As far as my daughter, that is the reason I am looking for input considering her love for the game and her teammates. I know what the easy solution would be, her not play High School Soccer and let her play as a guest player on some of the surrounding states Competitive teams. Secondly, I would love to Coach those girls, however, based on my experience not a wise move to Coach your own child at that age number one. I would be way harder on her than she would deserve so as to avoid the insinuation of partiality. Thirdly, I have a son that is playing football and it would be unfair to him if I was so wrapped up in Coaching her that I was unable to attend any of his games or practices. Not that it is your business, but I am all they have in the parent department!
  10. Okay, well that definitely got the discussion going, and I agree with alot of what everyone has said. The key issue really the major issue I have, is when you choose a captain (and no it wasn't my daughter even though she was last year for Harvey), and you ask her to be open and talk to you as a Coach, and you want her input when there is a problem; do you blast her and tell her she doesn't even know how to play soccer the right way, and her idea is Stupid? Do you rip your Assistant Coach apart infront of the girls? Just my thoughts and observations as a former Competitive Soccer Coach and Former High School and College Player. For the record, he has not really been that hard on my daughter compared to how hard I was on her, but if her teammates are distressed, upset and for the first time in their soccer careers are praying for rain so they don't have to go to practice to be berrated you tell me.
  11. Seriously, I totally agree with you Ref, other than the one goal, keeper wasn't tested......... If you was one of the refs in that game, surely you know the Coach did not play his best lineup at any point in the game either. Too much mix and match trying to get JV and bench level players playing time with the better players.
  12. Very Kind words regarding Powell, I wonder what area you are from. As far as the Coach, that may be our handicap, he definitely thinks he is the greatest thing to come to coaching since slice bread came to the dinner table. I thought in the beginning we would do well this year, however for all the Coaches/Referees/informed Parents let the discussion begin on the following statement. " I haven't seen anyone out here that really knows how to play soccer the right way, it is going to take alot of work to teach you how to play soccer" Bear in mind he has been given a nucleus of a Varsity that has 2 Div 1 U17 Players, 3 Div 1 U16 Players, and at the least 10 Divison 2 U16/U17 Players from Competitive Teams.........It is going to be a very interesting season. I don't know whether he will be able to teach these girls how to play soccer, if their Competitive Team Coaches have done such a horrible job to this point.......ahhh the drama of kids sports.....
  13. I wouldn't get overly excited about the Jamboree as the Coach was still looking at some JV Players as backups, at no point did the girls who should and in all likelihood will be starters play together at the same time. This was actually the first attempt at a scrimmage we have had, and though I personally am disappointed at some decisions as far as the lineup, he will get it right before the season starts, or he may have a bunch of girls real upset. My personal opinion is he needs to let the right girls play, and quit trying to put his thumb print on the team and take credit for whatever successes they have, he will accomplish far more out of them.
  14. Actually if you looked at the date of my post under this thread, it was during the same time we were having the discussion under the other thread. Before you start accusing make sure you pay attention to the date........
  15. So what are your qualifications to be an evaluator? No one ever said that the keeper didn't mis-handle the ball on those 2 occasions. What they are trying to get thru to you, no matter how the scoring opportunity arose, the girl who scored those 2 goals, did her job. She performed according to the way she was trained, in the right spot at the right time, crashing the goal looking for a loose ball to put in the net. In your high expertice as a soccer evaluator, give the girl credit for not giving up and crashing the goal. I wonder sometimes if some of you posters ever played the game with the critical comments. I can tell you based on someone who did play in high school and college and for fun as an adult, players understand how difficult it is at times to score, and they do respect the other players who score goals, whether it is 2 or 40.
  16. However, I doubt seriously you have the same team from 5-6 years ago. Bottom line every year is a new year, and every year is a new opportunity for each team. What is done in the past is the past, kudos to your team for their success against Oak Ridge, I have no doubt they will be looking to get even each and every year. The question I have is how many times have you beat Bearden? How many State Championships have you won? If you must brag, brag on how successful you have been against all top competition not just one team.
  17. You are right on target! Bottom line that Canes is forgetting it takes a full team of good players for even a player of Trennas caliber to excel.
  18. It appears ORHS is getting closer all the time, a tie or 1 goal game is obviously a game where both teams were evenly matched, evidentally both teams know how to play defense.
  19. This is crazy, a goal is a goal no matter how ugly or how pretty it was scored. Someone had to do her job or be where she was supposed to be in order to score the goal. Everytime a goal is scored someone got beat and someone performed that is the nature of soccer. Obviously I am not rooting for Oak Ridge since my daughter goes to Powell, but to belittle a score the girl made is wrong, she had to be in the right place at the right time in order to score!
  20. Surely you picked up on the fact that he is promoting his daughter......It is good that she is an aggressive player with good skills and crashes the goal; however, it takes a team effort to win continuously. I have no doubt his daughter will score lot's of goals, but as Trenna Howell had support last year in scoring, they have to have a team effort every year.
  21. Well one could hope, but as we all know the games have to be played. I do believe that Oak Ridge will be strong year in and year out as will West, the idea behind my original post was not to belittle West or Oak Ridge, just to let them know Powell is a little older now and more experienced than in the past.....and the girls are very hungry. In essence they won't be intimidated the way they were 2 years ago as a team loaded with Freshmen. Should be a very fun and interesting Season in our District.
  22. You are correct on the 3-0, forgot 1 goal called back on offsides. But still could have been worse, considering we had players play that were for a younger team as well to get them some experience as well as the Coach used the game as a tryout for a couple of other players that didn't end up making the team. Obviously, we all have our own perspective and can watch any game and come away with a different opinion. At the end of the day, they lost soundly to the Mustang, Magpies, and Diamonds. Not saying they aren't bery good players because there are players on the Krossfire that are very good, what was originally stated still stands. It was one fan's idea of possible finish in the District, and was meant to get discussion and others ideas and opinions of where their teams are this year. If you have and opinion of where your team is going to finish fine, post it, but don't expect to get any flack, I obviously expected alot. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
