  1. im not on here to bring up issues from the past. that boat sailed a while back. but at the same time that talent got him 9-2 and 9-2. which 9-2 and 7-4 equal the same thing to me if you dont win the first round. i think that its still your job to get the kids on the field. take a college football program, now i know this is comparing apples and oranges but after alabama won the national championship. did they just open their doors and say hey if your good enough come here and we'll talk things out. no they recruited. so a little recruiting with in the school might be needed for the upcoming year. build up some hype and get things going.
  2. your right coach derrick's first year was rocky. he was handed a team with only five players that should of really been on the field. after going 3-7 he went to the middle schools and met with the kids and asked them to come out to play personally. and im not saying coach wasnt handed a gift but he did his absolute best to keep the talent together. your also right with the bunch of talent comment, central has always had the most tallent of any school in our area just about. so there might be a good group comin up but its still your job to get them out there on the field
  3. you know where this mind set will get us. 0-10 every year. improving the next couple of years? why didnt we improve from last year. with this mind set the "next couple of years" will never come we'll always be in the here and now and still be waiting on the "next couple of years"
  4. if you can get etowah and englewood to agree it would be huge for the junior team and the high school
  5. I think if all the High School coaches get together for this it will work. The kids serious abot playing will want to play in it.
  6. who did they play? I guess I am so used to our district getting beat in the first round.
  7. as stable as Polk Co. is, when was the last time they won a playoff game?
  8. Its a great idea, would go along way to help the district be more competative.
  9. I think if this game was at Howard then it would be a lot closer of a game. Being that its in Alcoa, it will be no contest.
  10. please dont take this the wrong way beacuase i agree with everything that is being said but alot of these things are out of coaches control. what are the short term and long term solutions that he has direct control over. I believe all these things like teaching kids to be respectful and good men are important but cant we do that and have success on the field. Last time I checked Polk Co. has great kids and they still win. Is their family and community better than ours?
  11. I agree, the only other thing that I would add is for the head coach to have a vision or a goal and how is he going to achieve it. Then measure his progress along the way.
  12. I will put my vote in for a strong rec/youth football league. If you are successful at a early age you will want to stay in it and work at it. once you get to H.S. it takes a coach who knows how to develope the players to the next level, schedule hard teams to play out of district, not pansys and say wow look how good we are. Our district is weak enough!
  13. I think central has a good coach with ties to the program but this is his first head coaching job and he is still trying to figure things out. I think that was the the same with coach derick, it was his first HC job and he made his fair share of mistakes but he had the tallent to still win. Central can definitly win, Polk wins and they are only a few miles down the road. What i hope doesnt happen is a attitude of " well winning comes and goes so we will win in a few years". This type of attitude gets us nowhere. We need to say what can we do to make ourselves better. What do we need to do to beat Polk 2 out of 4 years, beat Meigs 5-10 years and not be 0-10 until these last few years.
  14. i think we had 1 kid from meigs - rayl who came because of coach derick who was a good qb coach and meigs was down the past 3 years. i think dj king was the only one from mcminn except the walkers who originally was in etowah to begin with.
  15. true but most of the kids, simpson, moss, stiles, green, watson, jarell, ragland, jackson, c.king, price, i am sure i am missing some more but most of them stayed in it, i know darrell would go out of his way to pick kids up and bring them to practice everyday, talk to thier moms to make sure they stayed in it if they missed, he knew he had to go the extra mile but it paid off for the high school. I am sure the coaches in Englewood did the same.
  16. The recent good years (last 3)was due to darrell king and bo rayburn coaching the kids up from the crickets to the juniors. and they were good coaches who added kids each year where they needed them. the kids were successful so they stayed in it.
  17. thanks for the info logcabinman. i wasnt trying to be a smart @#$ but this was the point i was trying to make, both meigs and polk have 1 youth football league. we were 0-10 against meigs until the last 3 years (excluding this year). we have to fix this problem if we are going to get better or else all the good football players will go to mcminn or polk unless they want to play basketball.
  18. what is the trend of the past 10-15 years of centrals football record against meigs and polk co?
  19. I think that its a very good chance that central will go 0-10. Yes whyt or whatever his name is good, I saw signs of an awesome player but too bad it'll never be seen cause he'll never have enough time to pass or even hand the ball off. I am pretty sure that on the punt thing that you need line backers and d-line on it. most normal teams uses this method but we're not dealing with a head hunters here. I see this thread getting interesting hahaha
  20. I heard today that polk co. was having alot of issues on the field with players fighting with other players. Like LCM said every team has issues of some sort or another.
  21. Well im kinda tore myself with what goodin is doing in the fact that he wants kids that want to be out there. but nobody wants to be on a losing team so, he's got to recruit some kids out there. maybe the ones with a checkered past give them a short leash. but i want to see goodin swollow some pride and take a chance on some kids and get them out there. and success to me by the way is getting to college anyway you can, winning, and giving my all so i dont have to go back to a friday night game and wish i had played harder. id also like to see goodin address the little league but i think ive made that clear lol
  22. I dont think the time of practice matters at all. If you put the hours in you will see results, and its not like these kids have homework. Centrals classes are a joke, all of them, but it does seem like a little favortism to basketball to give them an easy a and practice. O well you cant make everyone happy. I'm not really concerned about anything other than how to make the high school team better. My only solution still happens to be the little leagues. Some how we need the 8th graders to play together and keeping them together rather than losing them and letting good players roam the halls like whats going on now. You cant honestly tell me there arent a few kids that are in the halls that wouldnt add some w's on the record. The fastest kid in the school aint playing or the strongest. Yes they had their opportunity to come out, but this is high school. Coach goodin cant expect the kids to come out without his help in recruiting. He thinks that if they dont come out on their own he dont want them. He needs to realize these are kids and that they dont know what they want. He needs to give them a little push toward the football field.
  23. well on the basketball practicing during school. coach derrick was close to getting football to count as a class and im not really sure what happened to that but i do remember talking to him about that
