  1. Here is the question...is it alright for high school athletes to get involved in an NCAA Tournament pool? We all know what happened to Rick Neuheisal (not 100% on the spelling of the last name)... Just a question. Well I was 16 for 16 on the first day, but hey, I am not a high school athlete, or college football coach, so show me the money!!!
  2. Did UT try to recruit this kid, or did Buzz let a fox steal another one from the hen house?
  3. What about all the ones UT has let get away over the past few years? Or not even recruited.
  4. Word has it that OS will be starting a tennis team.
  5. Good luck Powell. Bring the championship to East TN!!!!
  6. Is there any way to do a live web-cast?
  7. State tournament time is not the time to experiment with something new. Do it in a pre-season tournament, or Christmas tournament. Not having a shot clock is what makes high school basketball so interesting. It makes teams play with their different styles and learn to adjust to different styles. What is it teaching the kids if we have a shot clock, and another team can just pack it in and challenge you to hit jump shots. That almost completely eliminates the advantage of having a dominant post player.
  8. Only one can win the state, so why does it matter when they play.
  9. Are you not satisfied with this year's team??? Their season is not over, so why are you talking about NEXT YEAR? Focus on the task at hand.
  10. OS is a great TEAM! That means you have a lot to stop, and Laura has proven during the season that she can do it scoring or passing, whatever her team needs. Good luck girls!
  11. The last thing we need in high school basketball is a shot clock. There are already enough players who hug the three point line, and plenty of teams and players who just take bad shots. If you make them rush because of a shot clock, it will only get worse. Also, no shot clock allows for different styles of play and coaching, which lead to very fun matchups sometimes. Yes, there are the occasional stall the ball tactics, but you want your team to win, right? Sometimes that is the best chance a team has to win, so let them do it. Back in the time of Pete Maravich, people got mad about his "showboat" style, and running up and down the floor fastbreaking like teams do now, but it worked for that team.
  12. The biggest thing is to be comfortable with your steps and approach. Make sure that you get enough speed, and feel comfortable at the time you hit the board.
  13. I think anytime this debate comes up, regardless of the sport, the smart thing is to have grass (if possible). It is easier on a players knees, and leads to less injuries.
  14. Best of luck to the winner of the Rockwood/Harriman game. I hope the winner goes on to the state.
  15. If I'm not mistaken, Maryville's season is still going on; so why are you talking about next year's team?
  16. I have started a thread in boy's basketball for anyone who knows about areas 1, 2, 3 or4 results for the small schools.
  17. Who is winning in the district tournaments? Area 1, 2, 3, and 4?
  18. Good luck tonight! Make it 3 in a row!
  19. If you can't even be nice to your own players, then why waste your time posting?
  20. I will agree that people in general could be more supportive of their HS bands, but to come on and say that bands work harder than football teams. Right there you cannot expect people to support you, if you are going to bash them. I have been part of the marching band thing for years (HS, DCI [Crossmen, Glassmen], College, and now as an instructor), and understaand the ammount of work that goes into a show. But you have got to show some to respect to get any. Remember Fridays are for the team, and we are therre to support them, and Saturdays (Competitions) are for us. As far as the ammount of work, yeah, some high schools practice long and hard, but nothing can compare to a 10 hour practice day, then a night performance, travel all night, practice 14 hours, like it is in drum corps. And why is this in the basketball forum?
  21. Excellent points made. Yes there is a time for competition, and a time for being the entertainers or pep groups. I have marched drum corps with the Crossmen and Glassmen, and know what serious marching band is all about, and that is Saturdays for highschool bands, and the summer for drum corps. Fridays are the times we need to support the team just like the rest of the fans, and cheerleaders, but with the advantage of having an instrument. Music is a tool that can be used to move the soul, or in this case get people to cheer and be excited for their team.
