Once again, no disrespect meant towards any team, just acknowleding the talent of Harriman. I believe Harriman has the best player in the boys tournament, PERIOD! Not saying that there are not other really good players out there, but Harriman has a true PLAYER on their team, and the other members of their team are solid as well. They have something at every position, and even have size to go with it all. Best of luck to all teams, but still I am going to stick with Harriman. If they do not win the whole thing, then somebody has truly beaten a great team, and will desrve all the credit in the world, and I will be the first to give them that respect.

No disrespect at all to the Huntsville boys, I know they are a quality team. But A LOT can be said for the type of size Livesay has, especially in Jr. High basketball. Size like that, with talent, wears on a team, and forces them to have to give more effort than normal just to box out and prevent the offensive boards. Good luck to both team, but I will stick with Harriman winning it all. Good luck to Willie and Mike, and their boys. Tee, its okay to break that promise now!

Why is there not small middle and large divisions in basketball
dukefanatic replied to TimeLtell's topic in Boys Basketball
There needs to be three divisions, and a set standard across the board as far as what qualifies, small, medium, and large. For example, what qualifies as small school in Area 1 (Johnson City, Rogersville, Blountville area) would qualifiy as large school in area 2, 3, or 4. So when it comes to the sectionals in "Small" School, you can have situation like last year where the Coalfield girls (approx. 60-70 eighth grade students), vs. some of the bigger schools with around 180-300 eighth grade students. That's anywhere from 3 to 5 times as big. There needs to be a set standard, say 1-150- Small 151-250- Medium 251-XXX- Large These numbers represent the number of 8th graders at the school. The numbers for medium and large could be played with a bit, but to be fair to the smaller schools, going any higher than 150, is too much. In Area 4 the largest small school is 135, and in Area 2 I believe it is around 100, not sure about Area 3. I understand that some of the schools from Area 1 are not near as large as the "Large" Division schools, but still should we not also give the smaller schools a chance as well? This is why they are divided up in 3 classes in High Shcool, and in Jr. High football as well. -
Everybody wants to gripe and moan about the opposing band when they get beat. Nobody complains if they win. Also, when was the last time you thanked your band for being there to support the team. If they didn't show up the fans would be complaining about that as well. Remember in most schools, the band works just as hard as the football team, and they also get a grade for what they do. There are some football teams and players out there that would definitely fail if they got a grade for their performance.

I agree McGavok year in and year out has a very good line. Karns from Knoxville had a really good line in 2003. But let's talk about the small bands. In the small band category, McMinn County (or at least they have been small when I have seen them) and Oliver Springs have great lines every year. OS gets the most out of their talent, and play some really difficult stuff.

Congratulations on an excellent win! Looks like the guys are geared up for a run at the district. Good luck!

What about the small schools in this district?
-
All games have been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday, due to Blount County schools being out.
-
What were the results?
-
The flu and other illnesses have hit a lot of these schools hard. This could be about which teams are healthy.

Wow, 5 OTs Good Luck BOBCATS!!!
-
Good luck LADY CATS!
-
Has anybody thought of giving credit to the OSHS players for playing a good game?
-
Good luck Bobcats!

Good luck to the Bobcats!

Enough with the PA systems, you have a marching band there for a reason, they should be playing.
-
It should not be an issue. A player who wears them is just trying to draw attention to the individual and distract from the team.

Unaka's State Tournament Effort's Were Amazing
dukefanatic replied to starman's topic in Boys Basketball
I understand you are proud of the Unaka team, and you should be they played a heck of a tournament. But, this was not better than Hoosiers. If they had competed in and won the AAA tournament, that could have been considered like Hossiers. And, Jimmy Chitwood (Bobby Plump in real life) and he rest of the characters were real. -
I still have Duke, and of course I have them winning it all! I have Duke over UCONN, and Pitt over Georgia Tech, and then Duke winning it all.

I'll be more specific. What about high school players who have signed with a college already? FYI: I am 45 for 48 so far. My elite 8 is still intact, and I have 14 of the 16 sweet 16 teams.
