  1. Monte Kiffin is regarded as the best defensive coach in the NFL. You can't judge a guy on one game. In 10 of his 13 seasons at Tampa Bay, they finsihed in the top 4 of the NFL in total defense. FL is a hot team right now, just as UT was in the late 90's. FL will go thru a down cycle as well, Tebow will be gone, Urban Meyer will leave for Notre Dame and they will be back to being an average FB team. All programs go thru it (AL, USC,ND,TX,OK,TN, Oh. St. ) all these teams have been thru what TN is going thru and that is why UT is transitioning to a new coaching staff. I wish Teague the best at FL but I really think with the talent that is already there, he will get lost in the mix. He could play quicker at UT who is in need of athletes and Kiffin has already said Freshmen will get a chance to play. Unlike Fulmer who hardly ever played freshmen unless they were superstars like Eric Berry or Peyton Manning.
  2. Your second sentence shows your lack of football intelligence. I'll answer your first sentence. UT just hired the best Defensive Coordinator in ALL of Football (College and NFL) in Monte Kiffin. In addition, they added one of the best D-Line coaches in Football, Ed Orgeron. I can promise you the VOlS will be back in the limelight real soon. They will end up with a TOp 10 recruiting class this year, just wait and see. Good luck to Teague but I sure would like to have seen him playing in Knoxville.
  3. I read that article and wish the best for Mr. Scott. Sounds like a great person that has made the most of his opportunity.
  4. Meyer came out this past week and said "Notre Dame is his dream job.." I would not be surprised for a coach to leave any school for his "dream job". I agree, Teague will suceed at either school, however, at FL he will just be another player. At UT, he could be a "homestate hero". If local, in-state players come to UT and keep their heads on straight, they are guaranteed to be successfull because the local community (businessmen) typically will hire them for jobs. I see it all the time, Pharmaceutical Reps, Sales professionals, etc.. I wish Mr. Teague well whrever he goes to college though.
  5. Bert Bertlekamp (co-voice of Basketball Vols) was one heck of a shooter at Bearden back in the mid 70's. Played at Tennessee with Ernie and Bernie after Bearden.
  6. I haven't seen the Harvey kid play this year. Is he still on the team or did he get kicked off or quit ??
  7. I agree with your post. I do think if a coach is loaded with talent he can rely more on X's and O's than motivation at this level. However, since most HS teams aren't loaded with talent, I'll take the leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to motivate 16-18 year old kids.We have been looking for that type of coach for years at Lenoir City and continue to strike out each time.
  8. Like I stated in another thread, COach Kiffin is assembling an NFL staff at UT. His father, Monte, is regarded as the BEST D-Coordinator in all of Football (currently with Tampa Bay Bucs). He will know how to coach these guys to get them to the NFL. I hope Jaques will strongly consider this when making his decision.
  9. The Gators may be in the NC this year, but I truly believe Urban Meyer will be at Notre Dame after next season. Tebow will be gone as well, probably after the NC game. Kiffin is assembling the best staff in college football. His father, Monte, is the BEST Def. Coordinator in ALL of football, college or NFL. Any player that wants to play in the NFL should be looking hard at UT as Kiffin is assembling an NFL staff.
  10. Coach White was not a bad coach. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, going from 3A to 4A when LC was reclassified. He was successful in 3A.
  11. Speaking as an LC fan that does know a little about Football, I must say I am envious of the Maryville program and respect the heck out of what they have accomplished. In my opinion, their success is due to 3 things: 1) Coaching (GQ is the best coach in East Tenn. bar none) 2) Feeder program from youth leagues 3) committment from players to be the best. If LC had GQ as their coach, they could probably be 5-4 right now even with their lack of superb atheletes. I think GQ could take average atheletes and coach them up to be competitive. Until LC gets a coach of GQ's level, they will contiinue to struggle because kids do not want to play for a losing program. I would love to see what GQ could do with the LC program. A pipe dream I know but it's still fun to think about....
  12. LC this year has already scored more points than last years team did with 1 game to go. I'll take this years QB and O-line over last years QB and O-line. I will admit Edwards was a threat to take it to the house , however, this years RB's Cook, Coleman are hard runners that can get 3-4 yards on their own and with our O-line being deficient the last few years, thats the type of RB's we need. As far as offensive coaching goes, it's pretty much a wash between last year and this year.
  13. JC may have played some O-line last year due to injuries. Bottom line is, this years team has been better offensively than last years team. At least we have thrown some touchdown passes. Last year, I don't think we threw 1 TD pass the entire year, not one. Obviously we're not an offensive juggernaut by any stretch, but at least we play on both sides of the 50 yd. line this year.
  14. Cameraman, you obviously don't know too much about LC or football. First of all, Courtney does not even play O-line. He is a linebacker that plays a little bit of fullback. Secondly, the LC QB's are typically running for their lives as they do not even have time to set up to throw the ball 80% of the time. Therefore, they are having to throw it before they can even make their reads. I will say this offense and O-line is much better than last years offense and O-line. Sorry, but facts are facts.
  15. Cameraman, I'm an LC fan too but I think LC has about as good a chance of beating Maryville as Ralph Nader has of winning the Presidential election. LC is beat up pretty good right now with injuries and they didn't have any depth to begin with. The offense struggles to move the ball due to a small and out sized O-line. They play hard but this is definitely David vs. Goliath.
