  1. It would be great if Coach Z would take on coaching the boys, but I don't believe he's interested right now.
  2. Yes, that would be me. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Sorry it took so long to reply. Hope you're doing well.
  3. I graduated class of '90 along with Heath Grider, Bryan Tate, Scott McConnell, etc. I was long-haired back in the day. I took photos for the yearbook. You cheered, I believe. What year did you graduate? I'm trying to see if I've figured out who you are.
  4. Congratulations, Pirates! That was an absolute domination. What a way to end a great season that was dedicated to the late Don Grider. Congratulations to Vic, Heath and the rest of the staff (way to go, Zonepirate!). This alumni is proud to see the Pirates finish the season with such an amazing game. I congratulate McKenzie for making it to the title game for the first time in their history. Hey, "little"; Just wanted to say "hi". I believe I've figured out who you are.
  5. Go Pirates! Bring home the Gold! I hope everyone has a safe trip.
  6. Ole sportman and I have seen the previous SP/TC games (with the exception of maybe one that I went to and he didn't). I will most definitely hold the atmosphere of a huge rivalry. As mentioned earlier, the previous meetings decided the state championship. Now that these two regions meet first in round 1 instead of round 3 of the playoffs, this matchup comes earlier than in years past. Region 4 is strong, but I don't think that they fully realize the total package that the Pirates bring to the table this year. They have beaten region foes as well as quality 2A teams (some opponents have been purely dominated by this Pirate team). The Pittsburg Decleaters will have to be firing on all cylinders, which I'm sure is exactly what they will do. The Pirates have had great teams in the past, but this year they are even more exceptional. Save this alumni a seat on the home side! Jackets may not walk the plank, but they bow down when faced with a big can of Raid!(Air Raid, ground Raid, whichever Raid the Pirates attack them with.) Go Pirates!
  7. Agreed, OP. The Pirates focus and execution, as well as team speed, will overpower Grace. Whitwell gave an overall lackluster effort (especially on defense) last week against Grace, but the speed and intensity that the Pirates play with will be too much for Grace to handle. I predict Pirates by 3 touchdowns.
  8. I said last week that Whitwell needed to have a good defensive game and they failed to do that in their loss to GBA. I think this week is similar. The Tigers can't keep playing uninspired on defense and hope to win ballgames. Last week I would have given the Tigers good odds to win the game this week against Silverdale, but after Silverdale stayed close to Lookout Valley, I'm not so sure. Whitwell has a big line, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to tackle anyone. One team will step up and make the playoffs, the other gets ready for roundball. Which team is more hungry to stay alive? I hope it's the Tigers, but we'll see Friday night.
  9. I have been told by school sources that start time is 7:00 central/ 8:00 eastern. That seems odd, though, because usually when playing in the eastern time zone, games start at 7:00 or 7:30. I'm trying to confirm that time just to be sure, but that's all I've been told so far.
  10. Exactly, tiger. This is a big game for the Tigers and Coach Montgomery. I think that the most important thing tonight is for the defense to really step up and have an outstanding game. The running game has been going well, but defensively, we need to get more aggressive. Hopefully we'll see that tonight, or else Grace will be tough to stop. Good to hear from you, OP. Hopefully the Tigers take care of business and you won't look like you were hit with a frying pan. SamHain knows all about those frying pans (and whatever other throwable object happens to by lying around at the time). The dough roller used to be a weapon to be feared in the hands of the misses, but with the popularity of frozen biscuits these days, the dough roller rarely comes out of the drawer. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  11. Just like with any game, though, all of the "could have" and "should have" stuff doesn't change the outcome. I'm proud of the Tigers for doing what they had to do to come away with the win. I hope that they can continue it this week. Where are the GBA fans?? Do they have nothing to say?
  12. I should have specified that I meant you should have more success passing the ball this week. You did fairly well running the ball last Saturday, but didn't run it as often as you could have to help win the game. You seemed to keep going back to the pass even when it wasn't working and the run was. That's just my opinion, though. I'm no expert, just an interested fan of high school football.
  13. I agree with you on that, GA. Knowing what to do and being able to accomplish it are two different things. Silverdale is a good team, but I think that Lookout wins this one by two touchdowns or more.
  14. I think that if our defense can muster a little more aggression this week, then we can put the necessary pressure on their QB. Stopping their pass game will be crucial for the Tigers to win, just as it was last Saturday against DB. You should see a victory this week, DBfan. I think you will have more success moving the ball against Copper Basin that you did against us. This is another key to a Whitwell victory (the other one stated above). Francis can run the ball at you hard, so he has to have a good game for the Tigers. Good luck this week, jadguitar. Your impressive jackets should have no trouble stinging Silverdale.
  15. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Temple's lamp would have to have a more powerful genie than SP. When the Pirates need help, they use their genie lamp... when you rub it, out comes Stephen Hargis to grant your team success on the field. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Seriously, there is just no way that Temple has any atheletes to stay anywhere close to the Pirates this week. The mercy rule will see quite a bit of use. The Pirates just have to play effectively, do their thing and keep focused on winning each game on their way to the championship. Davids have slain Goliaths before, but it won't happen this week.
  16. Can the Tigers build on their win against David Brainerd, or does GBA overpower the Tiger defense? I haven't seen GBA play, but hear that they have some talent in their skilled positions. Whitwell has been running the ball adequately and mixing it up with a few good passes by Kilgore, but the big question I have is can the defense foster some needed aggression and stop Grace's passing game? Any thoughts?
  17. Thanks, DBCSfan. It will be a tough game this Friday. The officiating was sporadic, wildcat. DB received a questionable pass interference call, but then a few plays later, so did Whitwell (I guess they were trying to even it out?). You all did rely more on the passing game than I believe was necessary. We have to work more on getting aggressive on defense. We eventually started getting some hands up and disrupting the pass effectively, but it looked like too many of our guys not attacking on defense. We're happy to get the win and now it's time to work on preparing for Grace. Hey, wildcat, I noticed a lot of cleared land that looked like it was ready for development around the field. Would some of that be for your baseball field, perhaps?
  18. I figured we'd hear from you today, zone! Unfortunately the Big Orange was crushed. As I posted above, Whitwell beats David Brainerd 42 - 14. Also, congrats to the Pirates for another sound victory last night.
  19. Just got back from the game. Whitwell wins 42 - 14. Congratulations to the Tigers! Whitwell was able to move the ball on the ground and, after some adjustments, was able to stop David Brainerd's passing game. DB seemed to move the ball well on the ground at times, but kept going back to the pass. As far as the Tennessee Alabama game, oh well. Now I don't mind so much that I missed seeing that game on tv.
  20. I know what you mean about the crowd, zone. Less money will be made at the gate on a Saturday game. Especially when tomorrow, so many will be tuned in to see UT vs Bama. Maybe I'll take a radio to the game so I can keep up with both games. Good luck to the Pirates tonight. I'm glad that seating issue got worked out. You gonna be at the game tomorrow, DBCSfan? What about you, junkergeorge?
  21. Yes, I remember those times following the Pirates to places like Boyd (a few years ago). Places with hardly enough seating and poor facilities. Remember that time that the officials even made the Pirate band quit playing at Boyd? They were gonna throw the flag if they continued to play /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> . On the subject of game sites, I think that schools who don't yet have their facilities fully developed would benefit by playing at another school's field on Friday night (or even Thursday). You may get some extra gate money because you could draw a few extra spectators. If you play on Thursday, some people from other schools will come out to see one of the few Thursday games played. If you play on Friday, you get more of your own fans as well as more of your opponents fans. Most people have other things going on on Saturday, so you won't draw as big of a crowd, therefore your ticket sales are lower, and as we know, all schools around here need as much as they can get from their ticket sales. Perhaps that money that David Brainerd has raised will go a long way towards making discussions such as this one unnecessary in the future. I wonder how many other programs in the area do not have lights yet?
  22. I kinda figured you'd let one of those out. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Go Vols!
  23. I'm thinking that Jasper gets 28 and Pikevegas gets 14. The purple warriors seem to keep making measurable improvements as their season goes on.
  24. Sympathies and prayers to the family and Grundy community from Whitwell. Sportman said it well in his post above; We all like to get on here and support our teams and "rattle cages", but things like this give you proper perspective.
