  1. I played for Marion in that game. People still talk about it around here. Won of the toughest games I've ever been associated with.
  2. Didn't you guys have a really tough linebacker in the 80's named Steve Olivera ?
  3. Cokey Pryor and Lamont Hale both played in the secondary. Linebackers when Cokey played were Dale Solomon and Kevin Clark.
  4. Obviously not. I'll be there alongside all my fellow County folk cheering on the locals.
  5. I have to agree with STATECHAMPMOM on this post. As a former Marion County player and Coach, we too heard all the rumors how we were somehow "cheating" to keep our program so strong in the 80's and 90's. The truth is we play some pretty darn good football in this county and have backed that up time and time again. Between South Pitt and Marion, this community loves their programs and work hard to instill a sense of pride in each generation. There are no steroids involved unless you count the natural stimulant to succeed. Goodluck Pirates. Make the COUNTY proud !!!!
  6. I'm not going to say a great deal about the subject of "little league", but..... I played little league football at Marion County with the same group of kids who stayed together and played junior high together, and then became the first team from Marion Coutny High to advance to the state championship in 1982, then again in 1985. We stayed together; all of us year end and year out. We ran the exact offense and defense as the high school. We didn't just pitch to the fastest kid. We ran the veer ( multiple option). When we got to the high school level, we could run the scheme in our sleep. Take it for what it's worth 20+ years coach, but with the right people in charge.... it can be VERY benificial. In your defense, however, I have seen it run the wrong way in other communities where adult egos get in the way. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Take your time Marion....... Don't hire someone too quick just to have a coach in place. Find the coach everyone can be happy with, and help put Marion back on top !!!!
  8. I certainly hope Marion finds the person who can instill the work ethic, enthusiasm, and desire that once was Marion County Football. I hope the next coach is given a chance to build the program. Someone whom the community can embrace and who will embrace the traditions of excellence that once dominated Jasper. I think they should look outside the community. It's tough to "come home again" and not be pressured by the influences that this community can dish out. Marion county fans love their school, their teams, and their tradition. I too bleed Purple and White. I hate seeing teams schedule them for "payback" when it was so difficult to schedule quality opponents back in the day. However, this comes with the territory. Beating one of Tennessee's historically top programs is a big deal. I have moved on to other chapters in my life, but I love Marion. I grew up Marion, played real Warrior Football, coached Graet MCHS Football, and wish the best for a great community and school. GOODLUCK !!!!!
  9. Even earlier... "Mean" Joe Martin (Anthony Martin's dad) and Bob Bible. Bob was an all-american at Austin Peay State Univ.
  10. Dale Solomon in the 80's was highly decorated. All-State. All everything.Donahue mostly played defensive back.
  11. Red Bank's year. The Lion's finally get revenge.
  12. I wouldn't think you would have to be connected. I believe they will give all candidates a fair shot. They need to definately get the best they can get. This community is ready for a winner.
  13. Also..... start 'em early. Get the middle school on board. Have them running the same system. Get the kids comfortable to run the offense and defense when they get to the high school.
  14. Give the new coach time to build a program. He knows football. He knows how to motivate. He will do a great job if he has the time to build. Bledsoe has talented, hard-nosed kids who want to win. Once everyone is on the same system for awhile, success will be brought back to BCHS.
  15. Tell 'em about it Dave !!! The weight room will make every athlete more successful. Look at the Dade County, GA basketball girls. They have been one of the areas most successful programs, and wow, they lift 3 morning a week before school during the season. Bigger, faster, stronger athletes. What a crazy concept.
  16. Everything is in place for success. Just need the right fit to turn this into a top notch program. Someone who is a motivator who can instill a desire to win in some really good kids. The school and community in Soddy deserve a top football program. I can tell you this..... Even when losing, the crowd is big and loud. These people are hungry for success.
  17. Soddy is a great place for a coach who can get them on track. The community support is second to none. The boosters are great. A coach will have everything they feel they need to be successful. Soddy needs a coach who brings excitement to the program, and who motivates the entire school to get involved. There have always been some great athletes walking the halls that need to be on the football field. Goodluck to the Trojans in finding the coach that can help bring this program great success.
  18. The Indians and the Seq. Co. community deserve a good coach to help bring back the pride that Sequatchie Co once had in it's football program. I remember alot of hardnosed, tough, gritty football players in Dunlap. They always let you know you were in a game. The stadium was always packed, and the style of play was intense. Seq. needs a coach who can network and get the entire atheletic dept. on board. Schools of this size have got to share the atheletes between sports to be successful. Back in "the day", I remember seeing the same kids out for every sport. Coaches have got to put aside their selfish pride and do what's best for the school. I always encouraged kids I coached to play other sports. It kept them in shape year round. Goodluck Indians..... I hope we all can see the type of football brought back to the entire Seq. Valley that we were all so proud of once.
  19. Maryville wins this game, but the Eagles from Rhea don't go quietly. Hardnose kids in Rhea !!!
  20. If that was a great job, then Soddy needs higher standards. Huge school, great student body, tremendous community pride. The Trojans need someone to help begin a long tradition of football excellence. Softball and wrestling have it going on. Bring on the football program.
  21. Rhea wins big in this one. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. You're correct Dave. BCHS was extremely tough to play in the early 80's. Those games were intense.
  23. Rhea beats Cleveland this week. Goodluck Eagles !!!
  24. There have been Robinson's in SP for years and years.
