  6. A few weeks ago I would have said that Middleton would cruise through the district tournament. Then they proved to be human with the loss to a very good Lake Co. team. Lately they've won some close games AT Riverside, then AT Adamsville. I've heard, but don't know this as fact, that they played - or started - at least one of those games without some of their starters (disciplinary?). Still, I'd have to put my money on Middleton to win the tournament. When they're on, they're VERY good... and I believe Coach Burke will have them ON for the tourney.
  7. Well... not a lot of TNT discussion going on!?!? Our girls are getting excited about tomorrow (partially because they're getting to leave school early lol). We're heading out around 12:30 for SMS to take on Sacred Heart. I'm sure it is the same with several schools, but we've been struggling with the long layoff. Our last 'real' game was a few weeks ago, as we won a small local tournament. The girls have been practicing against anyone and everyone willing to lace 'em up - the boys, teachers, etc... but none of that mirrors real game action. Hopefully we won't have too much rust to shake off before tip tomorrow night. I recall watching the Nashville news about a week ago and seeing a camera crew in Springfield showing around 2 or 3" of snow - so thank the Lord that we're having 60+ degrees and great weather for all the teams traveling this weekend!
  8. Don't sweat it Adam... you were trying to get the info out quickly & had MOST of it right the 1st time. The bracket you have here now matches up with what the Jackson Sun published today as well. And for anyone who isn't aware, you (Riverside) have had some SERIOUS struggles with bad luck ending this year. I know the type of guy that you are you won't make, or use, excuses. BUT - having your leading scorer leave the team, then having to deal with the illness that your girls have had has been very trying on a good team. I know that Laura (point guard) found out today that she is sick and won't get to play tonight at Madison, and that she was actually sick in your last game at TCA. She is a fighter and has a huge heart & I know it is driving her crazy (& you as well) not to get to play, and not to have been completely healthy here at the stretch. I usually end my posts with good wishes for ALL the teams to be healthy & injury free, and I truly feel for any team having to deal with bad luck and bad breaks. Again, good luck, good health, & safe travels to all the teams starting the tourney tonight. GO 15A !!
  9. Just a few rescheduled (weather) District 15A games left before the brackets are set. Riverside travels to TCA tonight, and I believe Adamsville plays Madison. Scotts Hill and Middleton finish 1 and 2, but from there on things are still up in the air if I'm not mistaken. Good luck & good health to all the teams entering the tournament this week.
  10. Okay, they're updated now (3PM). Looks like our game vs. Sacred Heart is the only 1st round game left to be played. 41-37 So. Cumberland over Selmer - that looks like a more or less average or typical Middle School game score. The USJ 16-13 looks VERY low. Must have been some serious defense being played in that one, or both teams were having trouble with shooting? If anyone has any information about Sacred Heart - location, record, etc.. please post. Congratulations to all the 3A teams who have moved on so far - So. Cumberland, USJ, Ezell-Harding.
  11. Congratulations TennTwin on yall's win over Selmer! And thanks for the well-wishes also. The brackets haven't been updated online yet (9:50AM today)... how was your game with Selmer/ what was your final? Thanks
  12. Let me begin by saying that in H.S. b-ball there are two seasons. The regular season and the tournament season. I'll speak to the tournament season in a moment, but first.... CONGRATULATIONS Ladies on a perfect regular season. You played this season with grace, composure, integrity, and as a team. I as a fan lost my cool several times (not a good example as an adult I must admit), but you on the other hand played an entire season with no technicals or even any intentional fouls. I contribute that partially to your coaching, but also to your individual personalities... you are all wonderful, well-mannered and well-behaved young ladies. You did not breeze thru this season unchallenged either - two overtime games (at Madison, home against Adamsville), two VERY close games with Middleton, and some physically brutal games with other district foes as well. Throw in four matches against AA opponents and you have proven yourselves very well. You have overcome all this to break yet another Scotts Hill record, a perfect regular season mark. Now all that being said, you must all keep in mind that a perfect regular season is NOT your goal, just a wonderful starting point. The 'second season' now begins and we are all 0-0. Any team in our district could defeat us on any given night and we must keep that in mind all the way to state. Again, congratulations to a wonderful group of young ladies and an awesome coach... I have considered it an honor to have the privelege of watching your perfect season. Now let's keep it going!!!!
  13. Here is a link to the 2011 TNT brackets: http://www.rcstn.net/tnt/home Good luck & safe travels to all the teams! I have a daughter on Decatur Co. Middle School (3A), and look forward to being in Springfield starting this Thursday 2/17 to face Sacred Heart.
  14. I often feel that refs have 'agendas' in games (I watch 15A), but I actually feel better about our refs now that I know some others are checking TEXTS... Wow... that's horrible. Some of my pet peeves: * If one team plays aggressive defense and presses, yes they are going to foul you more. I've watched several games this year where the opposing team was pressing and the refs would call 4 or 5 quick fouls on them (rightly so), but then the refs start looking at the scoreboard and try to 'even up' the fouls - and so our girls begin getting called for 'touchy' fouls or even NON fouls. And it seems that the calls against us end up being shooting fouls. * I've been lucky to have two daughters on very good teams this year (one in Middle & one in HS). I've seen both these teams punished for being ahead in the 2nd half of MANY games. Refs 'calling the scoreboard' drives me CRAZY. Just because a team is down 10+ points does not mean you should stop calling fouls against them or allowing them to travel, camp in the lane, etc. * If it isn't on the court, the refs should not be concerned with it (barring foul language or items being thrown on the court). I've witnessed refs having arguments with students and fans... if the student/ fan is being beligerent (cursing, etc.), have them removed and move on with the game. Don't stand there and argue with them. * I have witnessed a referee follow a player all the way to the bench - one end of the court to the other - after calling a foul on the player. The player was angry because he thought the call was incorrect, but he was moving toward his own bench as the coach was removing him from the game. A referee should never follow the player all the way to the bench just waiting for the player to do something worthy of a technical (baiting the player into saying something). He should have stopped at the scorer's table and reported the foul, then moved on with the game. WHEW... it felt good to get those off my chest LOL... I hope the tournament refs are better than some that I have seen this year. It may seem like 'sour grapes,' but I really feel that bad officials CAN affect the outcome of a game... and I'm not just full of anger or bitterness - my two daughters' respective teams have only lost one game among them this year and I don't blame the one loss on refs.
  15. 1,000 is quite an accomplishment. Congrats to Ms. Fagan

  17. Tonights SCHEDULED district games: Madison @ Middleton (unsure of the time- probably 6:00P) Adamsville @ Riverside - scheduled 6:30P - Decatur Co. is out of school today Scotts Hill @ So. Gibson - 6:00P - Henderson Co. is out of school today As of now (noon), I know the SH/ So. Gibson game is still on. If anyone has any updates as far as cancellations or time changes, please post!
  18. Scotts Hill 9-0 22-0 Middleton 6-3 13-8 Madison Acad Magnet 5-4 16-8 Decatur County Riverside 4-4 11-9 South Gibson 4-6 7-12 Adamsville 3-5 7-12 Trinity Christian 0-9 5-17 THOUGHTS: * Middleton over Adamsville (at Mid) last night by 10 in OT. Adamsville has now given both of the top district teams a scare in OT over the past week. * Middleton has an intereting game coming up tonight with out-of-district opponent Lake Co. * Scotts Hill wrapped up the 'regular season' district championship last night with a home win over Riverside. I know they (SH) don't particularly care about this though, as the Gold Ball is their only real goal this season. * I know this is not 15-A, but I was somewhat shocked this morning to see that Waynesboro lost to Loretto. * I know this is not girls, but I imagine that Adamsville @ Middleton boys game was exciting to watch. If I didn't have games to attend with my own daughter playing, I'd sure love to make a trip to Adamsville to see the upcoming rematch... I don't think Middleton will lose, but I bet it'll be entertaining.
  19. WEST TN: The Jackson Sun (.com) had these game times that were moved up: "These games have been moved to earlier to day: Bolivar vs. JCM at Lambuth, 3:30 p.m.; Lexington at Liberty, 4 p.m.; Madison at TCA, 4 p.m.; Haywood at Obion County, 4 p.m.; Bradford at Humboldt, 5 p.m.; Milan at Gibson County, 5 p.m. Two games have been moved to Saturday: Dresden at Clarksburg, 1 p.m.; North Side at Hardin County, 3 p.m.; Ripley at Westview, 6:30 p.m. If you know of any other game changes or cancellations, email us at michodom@jacksonsun.com."
  20. Excellent solutions. I have a daughter in High School and one in Middle, and we've actually seen this at two away games this year. At the HS game, staff from the school actually perused the crowd on both sides looking for volunteers to sing (no takers), and no anthem or pledge was performed.... it felt VERY strange. At the Middle School game, the announcer simply stated that their cd/ mp3 was malfunctioning and he led the crowd in the 'Pledge of Allegiance.' It actually felt pretty good to be able to participate with all the fans from both sides in a show of our National Pride.
  21. One team Scotts Hill still has left to play again is South Gibson (at S. Gibson), and South Gibson has recently been 'reaching up' from their lower spot in the District to beat some of the teams ahead of them. A two point win against Madison, and a one point win tonight at Riverside.... looks like they may be coming together at a good time as well. Hopefully the weather will hold off - LOTS of district games left to be played and I know Decatur County schools (Riverside) are OUT tomorrow due to a combo of weather AND sickness... everyone keep their fingers crossed that the game between Riverside at Scotts Hill will be able to be played.
  22. Wow... Mother Nature is wreaking havoc on our basketball schedules hahaha... Last night I know that SH @ Hardin Co. and Riverside @ TCA were both snowed out. Riverside now has THREE district snow games to make up (@ TCA, S.Gibson home, Scotts Hill home), and I heard on local radio that the RHS-TCA game was rescheduled for Feb. 14th, so apparently the District tournament is being moved back to get in all the makeup games. I have not heard a reschedule date for Scotts Hill @ Hardin Co. (not a district game so rescheduling priority may not be high for either school). This Friday night - barring bad weather again - should be a big night for some of the top district teams with Scotts Hill @ Middleton and Riverside @ Madison.
  23. It's not that we (SH) don't care about the polls or getting respect from the rest of the state, but honestly it isn't talked about a whole lot around here. Our girls know that the polls, an undefeated season, and/or public opinion doesn't really matter in terms of the main goal- a state title. SH had a very good team last year, and we watched as Middleton stayed atop the state polls (deservedly so we thought) for a long time. Middleton defeated us twice in the regular season and ended up with a perfect district mark. However, our girls really came together at the right time (tourney time) and defeated Middleton twice for the district and regional championship. Both teams then proved their worth in substate and made it to the state tournament. And so, being on the 'other side' of it, we've seen that the 'undefeated record' and the 'state #1 ranking' doesn't equal a state title, or even a state appearance for that matter. Also, there are VERY good teams ranked atop the state poll... we can't really argue against Wayne Co, Jackson Co, Moore Co, or Lake Co - all of whom are very good teams and who have state championships among them. So it's not that we're unconcerned or ambivolent about the rankings and these message boards, just realistic (that plus we don't have very many people in our small town who consider message board banter to be a worthwhile hobby lol). That's my .02
