  1. Thank you all for your spirited responses to this thread. I did find through some of your replies that other schools have gone through this same thing (& other schools have done this same thing). To those of you who seem to somehow be feeling that my post contained 'sour grapes,' please note that I did say in my original post that Middleton has very good teams who do not need to cheat to win. I was/ am in no way saying that the heat caused them to win the game I attended, I was/ am just curious as to whether anyone else had experienced this & how it was handled, and also if anyone else had concerns about player/ fan safety. Thanks
  2. You can't "stay out of the gym" when it is a district game.
  3. First, you can't "stay out of the gym" when it is a district game. Second, Middleton diffently would have won the game that I watched regardless of the temperture. Like I said in my post, their teams are good enough to win without the heat.
  4. I recently attended a district basketball gym at Middleton for the 1st time. As I walked into the gym, I immediately found it difficult to breathe due to the stifling heat. I have spoken with spectators for different teams who have attended games there in the past few years and they seem to believe that Middleton keeps the temperature turned high as a 'competitive advantage.' One gentleman told me that he had actually a) asked an administrator to turn down the heat (adm refused), and later saw someone (not from Middleton) turn it down only to have the Middleton administration turn it BACK UP. If it is NOT being done for a competitive advantage, someone at Middleton needs to have their heating system checked out. There is no reason a gym should have to be that hot. If it IS being done for a competitive advantage, I am a) shocked & saddened, as Middleton has very good teams who do not need to cheat to win, and hopeful that a student athlete is not injured or overcome by heat exhaustion at some point. Another individual with whom I spoke brought up the fact that TSSAA is so worried about whether uniforms are tucked in or what types of things girls wear in their hair that you would think they'd have some sort of "safe" temperature range in a gym. Anyone else experienced this or have any input?

  6. It will be VERY difficult for anyone in this district to go into Middleton & pull out a win. My heart is with Scotts Hill in this one, & I believe if they play their BEST ball they could pull it out... but my HEAD says Middleton. Side note: Camp games are just camp games, but SH did beat Middleton (by 1 or 2 points) in a summer camp game in Selmer this past summer.
  7. The Jackson Sun reported that Britney scored her 1,000th point against Madison Academic this past Friday night. Congratulations to Britney on a stellar career at Scotts Hill.
  8. Everyone except Middleton has now played one district game: Adamsville over TCA by 11 Riverside over So.Gibson by 5 (So. Gibson held their own & led at one point) Scotts Hill over Madison by 9 I attended the SH/ Madison game, and had forgotten how Coach Patterson subs relentlessly at every stoppage. It is hard to watch and personally drives me crazy, but I know it has worked for him in the past. I must say I was most surprised by 1) Adamsville defeating TCA, 2) So Gibson - only Freshmen & Sophomores I think - playing Riverside so well. I know some of you have mentioned that they may surprise some people this year, and they appear to be on their way. 3) No mention was made at the GAME (at Madison), but Britney Montgomery of Scotts Hill quietly scored her 1000th point at Madison. I noticed it in the Jackson Sun the following day.
  9. Everyone but Middleton has played one district game now.... Adamsville over TCA by 11 Riverside over So. Gibson by 31 (never a game) Scotts Hill over Madison 80 something to 60 something (also never a game) One common opponent that Scotts Hill & Middleton shares so far (not sure if anyone else has played them) is a VERY GOOD JCM team. Middleton lost by 10, Scotts Hill was blown out. The top of the district should be fun to watch this year.
  10. DITTO - Congratulations to a great young man who has had an outstanding career at Decatur County.
  11. 1) Middleton, 2) Scotts Hill, 3) TCA/ Adamsville?? imo
  12. 15-A Riverside (Decatur Co.) has some very good freshmen coming in. Brooke Kennedy & Laura Villaflor are a couple that have been contributing a lot to a Lady Panther squad that I think will surprise some folks this year.
  13. Looks like all the 15-A teams are starting pretty strong in non-district play. The Jackson Sun 15-A preview has listed 1) Middleton 2) Scotts Hill 3) Madison as their 'teams to watch.' Middleton had what I consider an impressive win over Humboldt in a 'Hall of Fame' game.
  14. Riverside hosting Hampshire tonight, Scotts HIll defeated Milan Tuesday night and travels to JCM tonight. Anyone else have anything to report on 15A?
  15. I'm not sure if the games we have listed as Hall of Fame are the same as HOC, but Scotts Hill traveled to Milan last night & plays at JCM Friday night. We defeated Milan 52-43, and I expect another tough test at JCM.
  16. Woohoo!! Scrimmages and several "Meet the Players" events are cranking up.... the season is upon us!! Good luck everybody, hope all of 15A has injury - free and great seasons!
  17. I watched several of these teams in camps this past summer. That was a while back, and you can't judge too much from camps (plus I have no clue about So. Gibson), but I'm guessing the top 3 will be Middleton, Scotts Hill, TCA.
  18. Riverside has lost one of their most talented players, Brandon Singleton. He was dismissed from the team for behavioral issues (from what I gather). The team played well last night vs. TCA though. I believe that there are enough guys which have gotten playing time throughout the season that they won't miss Singleton as much as they might have otherwise. Still, it is a big blow for Decatur County right here at the end of the regular season and going into the tournament.
  19. Scotts Hill - Decatur County: I agree that it is sad for both schools not to have this game played. I'm of the opinion that the SH principal is the main problem as well. Feb 12th was the agreed upon date, and he's the one not willing to play it then. However, I'm hearing that one of DC's best players has been removed from the team anyway, which would make it highly unlikely that we (Riverside) would have beaten SH in their gym. I'm attending the DC/ TCA game tonight and hope to find out for sure.
  20. According to Panthers44 in the Region 15-A thread, Riverside @ Scotts Hill will be played Feb. 12th. He did not list his source.
  21. Is the classification system (1A - 4A) based upon school size? It seems that over the past few years of attending the tournament, according to the program (I don't have one in front of me right now), the school size doens't always match their classification.
  22. My Predictions: Riverside over TCA Scotts Hill over JCS Madison over Adamsville
  23. I'm a Panther fan, but I have connections/ family at Scotts Hill as well. I'd have to give SH the edge at the top of the district right now, especially considering they won the head to head matchup at Riverside earlier this year. SH & Riverside play this coming Tuesday in a what should be another good game. The only team I haven't seen from the district yet is TCA who is currently winless. Regardless of records, from what I've seen I'd rank the teams like this currently: Scotts Hill Riverside Madison JCS Adamsville TCA JCS and Adamsville could flip flop... they seemed pretty even. And Madison is very good. I wouldn't be surprised to see them move to the top in the tourney.
  24. Hey bTubbs/ CamdenBaller... I was at the Camden/ Riverside game at Riverside. I'd heard that when Camden played Lexington there was nearly a fight caused by J. Weed. I wasn't there, so I'm not commenting - just asking. Was Weed the kid that got the Technical called when he fouled u late in the game, bTubbs? If this is the same kid, it would seem he needs to calm down a bit. And though he seems to be a scorer, couldn't his attitude be part of Camden's troubles this year?
